Happy 15th channel anniversary! I recently rediscovered your channel and was pleasantly surprised to see that you're still going strong. What amazing endurance! I watched your videos a lot as a teen and this video is, I think, the last I saw before I stopped. All the best to you and may you have fun making videos for many years more!
Oh my God this version is one of the few worth acknowledgement. It sent shivers down my spine. It does the original justice. All the voices are perfect together because there are three different ranges that merge together oh so well. Edit: five years later, still think so
I used this song as an inspiration when I was struggling to escape an emotionally abusive relationship. The Beatles were true Bards! I miss George and John.
Thanks. :) No, this isn't our arrangement, it's by the King Singers. It's all in the video description. I however sell audio learning tracks (= the breakdown of the harmony into separate MP3 files + various helpful mixes that make certain parts stand out in the mix). My email is in the video description if you'd like to place an order.
I hope you enjoy this video & my other releases. :) If you feel like tipping the artist & helping me cover some of my production costs for upcoming projects, you can do it here: patreon.com/trudbol You can pledge whatever you want, as little as $1. It's a great way to help me make all this free music sustainable on the long run. Thanks so much!
***** Julien, I direct a Barbershop chorus in Teaneck, NJ and have been trying to connect with you for a long time. We will be purchasing some learning tracks and want to speak with you regarding the production of some other songs we wish to learn. Please let me know the best way to contact you. Lou Ponte - louieponte@gmail.com
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Regarding the audio / video difference at 0:30, it's simple: we're lip singing. It wouldn't be technically possible to pull off such a video without earphones. :) At 0:49 (it's me singing), and there's no doubling of the track. I have a little bit of classical training, so perhaps you feel the tone is too deep? And yes, there's reverb on each of the tracks, this one included. I hope you bear in mind we're all amateurs doing this over the Internet. ;)
I remember listening to this song (from this video) when I was really young, just rediscovered it again yesterday and I remembered hanging out with my older cousin and his friend in their neighborhood, just making memories and having fun. The nostalgia I felt was immense. This video will always be with me.
Thanks! You'd be surprised: there are thousands of active barbershop singers all over the world. It's just that the music isn't mainstream, so you won't hear it on the radio or on TV anymore, but it's still here and many love it. ;) You can support my work by getting some of my music (links in the video description), support is appreciated. ;)
I'm singing this for a master's recital tomorrow. Scared out of my mind but there is something about your videos that calms me and helps me practice. I just want you to know I've watched all your videos everyday for at least a year, shared with all my friends and tried to spread you around. You've done more for me that you will probably ever know and i'll never even get to meet you. Thank you Julien for all you do.
Mon père est italien, ma mère viens des philippines et nous vivons en France depuis plus de 15 ans désormais, cette collaboration ma fait frissoner, un grand merci a vous et surtout a toi Julien pour ces instants de bonheur.
I first heard this song when I was 10 and in 5th grade. I immediately loved it. Skip ahead 5 years and it’s still one of my favorite songs. Thanks, Mr. Morris.
@rYiOkUn It really depends on the song at hand, but usually it's the melody first, then bass, then baritone and finally tenor. For this piece, the metronome track was laid down first, then the the alto / tenor / bass parts, and finally the melody lines & the whistling bits.
LOL I don't understand your question either... Yes it's me whistling, and yes I layered the whistling over the vocals. The whole video is a multitrack: all the voices were recorded separately and layered to create the harmony. The whistling is just one of those tracks.
This brought tears to my eyes. It is the best rendering of an exquisite song. You even trilled the whistling to suggest the song of a bird. I want this played at my funeral.
Yes, I think it's fairly obvious when we hear you sing, haha! Thanks for not blasting out the full opera voice in this collab and giving Enrico and I some space, that was really cool. Still down for another project if you're up for it. :)
Every time I hear this arrangement I'm struck by the superb control of the “pedal” and the “snare” parts. To keep the volume, speed, and rhythm consistent throughout is really impressive! The whole thing is amazing, of course. Hats off to all involved, and thanks for sharing this gem with the internet. ❤
It depends on the song (duration, difficulty, if you have an existing arrangement at hand, etc.) but a custom 4-part arrangement for voices a cappella is around $100.
I really loved this international collaboration. It would be amazing if you could put one together during this worldwide pandemic. I am sure there are lots of great singers who are sitting at home at the moment. Thanks for all of the beautiful work you create. Much appreciated.
Amazing that all these harmonies were done in different locations and then combined. The Il divo's of the acapella world...love you guys...take care, vera
Oh my goodness!! This is absolutely amazing!! Love the uniqueness of all of your voices, especially Julien's tone!!! And the whistling, haha. Absolutely fantastic!!
What a great sound. Inspired by your wonderful performance I have sent for the King's Singers arrangement to use with my a cappella quartet - just hope we can do it justice with only 4 singers!
+Nigel Morley Thanks! It's a 4-part arrangement + percussion, actually. :) You can get my audio learning tracks on my website, they will make the learning process a lot easier & fun than the sheet alone: julienneel.com
The performance and production quality is top notch as always, but the whistling skill is impeccable. Truly though, great work. Really love this song and I can appreciate the work the three of you put into it with new headphones.
Trudbol or Julian, I watch this video everyday and especially every night before I sleep this song and you're rendition calms me relaxes me this is amazing and I can't express how much it warms my heart to hear this and how good it makes me feel, any plans on another collab with them (ex. Yesterday) THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH MATE!
@BlueSundew Thanks for your feedback. It's unfortunate because I actually tried to find a different way to sing my parts with a stronger energy from the original song performed by Paul McCartney. Hey, can't win 'em all. ;)
Thanks Nika! Our song is available for download on BandCamp, along with many other tunes, some unpublished on RUclips. The link is in the video description, below the video. :)
Thanks! It wasn't hard, it just took a bit of work. We all come from different countries (USA / Italy / France), record with different equipment, lighting, etc. The difficulty is to give the illusion we're an actual group.
Trudbol!!! I just want to let you know that my chamber choir will also be singing Blackbird this year. Also, I was overwhelmed with happiness when my choir teacher played your rendition of the track just to get the feel of it, before learning the song itself!! In fact, I got too overwhelmed, so now I'm gonna think of you as one my biggest inspirations when we get to perform onstage, especially with this song. Not only in chamber, but in my jazz choir as well.
Wow. Totally nailed it. I came up singing A capella and Madrigal and watching this reminds me why I love music so much. Great editing and production. Singing is second to none. Bitchin !
Trudbol... dude, you keep getting better and better. I first found your videos a couple of years ago by accident looking up "When I'm 64", and have been following ever since. I have ONE subscription on RUclips, and that's you. Keep up the great work! And the more Beatles tunes, the better! ...CrazyGus
This isn't barbershop. And I didn't use any of these programs for this song, I used Audacity for everything. The only editing I applied was some frequency equalization, stereo panning, balancing of the voices and a round of dynamic compression at the end on the mix. I assure you you're mistaking.
My pleasure, thanks for the kind words. Please consider downloading some of my songs from BandCamp, it's what helps me make all this free music on RUclips sustainable. Even $1 helps. :)
We did an arrangement similar to this in my choir last year. I had the Tenor part... not so fun. But an EXCELLENT arrangement. Thank you. The lot of you. For bringing such a gorgeous arrangement to life.
@keats27 Sgtsonny and I will be doing another collab as soon as he finds the time in his busy schedule. I'd be happy to do a third project with Danny, but I think he's busy too, unfortunately.
Thanks! Hope you've found satisfaction. Feedback is appreciated. I'm considering putting more songs on iTunes & such, but I have to pay each time, so it's good to know what people enjoy more or less. :)
@bleon333 Thanks! Yes, we all recorded from our respective countries. We did this entire video using emails only, we never actually met in person. Welcome to the 2010s! ;-)
Julien, I've got to say that this is one of the BEST pieces you've ever worked on. Maybe it's because this song holds a special place in my heart, or just because it really is very well done. Either way, I've been a huge fan for years, and I can't wait to see what else you come out with!
I love that song and this is such a sweet and serene version! And your whistling, Julien, is superb! My late father was a wonderful whistler and yours brought back nice memories but to tell the truth, you are better than he was.
Absolutely fantastic, guys!!! I can only get this connection thing to music when something has happened, but you got me to cry without anything else!!! You're amazing, and I think that you should keep doing exactly that!!!
Yes, it was really nice to have this exchange with you, I appreciate you taking time to write all your impressions. Just today I was listening to your other covers with a few friends of mine, thinking "Damn. That guy can sing, and he sure can pick good people to collab with!" and now BAM, new video! No wait, scratch that. New AWWWWESOME video. Loved every part of it. The editing, the melody, the harmony... I'm sure Sir Paul McCartney would be proud of you guys.

Damn that whistle skill tho
this makes me feel happy inside.
Mission accomplished! :)

..i really do...thank you!!! :-) :-) :-)
How long does it take to make one of these videos?
Thank you for the idea, I really mean it.

Yeah me too. Nothing quite like a tenor. And he's really holding back in this one!
This is what men were put on earth for. This is what man is capable of. The realization of beauty, harmony and love.
I can't stop listening to your videos. They're so magnificently done.
Thank you for the kind words, delighted you enjoy what you see & hear. :)
Is it just me or does the one guy look like the guy from cloudy with a chance of meatballs?
Isn't Kevin Reeder looking like a pooing peece of shit ?
i can see it
Oh gosh you are right, he looks like that guy cause of his hair and nose.
+William Goalkeeping I see it also.
A Cappella Trudbol I know I’m very late to this but it’s not just him
im proud there is still a Filipino collaborated! Magnificent!
Thanks! Feel free to re-post this video and share it with friends! Spread the music! ;)
Thank you for your kind words, delighted you enjoy the music. Our single is available on iTunes by the way. :)
it's giving wings to my thougths. Thank you your voices are great.

Pete has a really great voice!
I like that touch with the blackbirds flying.

@ubikspraymusic Yes, they wrote this arrangement, they're credited as they should.

@HelenaHachechan Thank you for the kind comment, delighted you enjoyed this video! Hope your friends will too (hint hint)! ;-)
@MrZipzapzop Thanks! This was our first collab, I hope there will be more, despite our busy schedules. Our song is on iTunes by the way. ;-)
the best quartet acapella Mr. Julien
This song was played at the ceremony before the cremation of my grandfather.
Thank you so much for making such a beautiful cover.
I really loved this international collaboration. It would be amazing if you could put one together during this worldwide pandemic. I am sure there are lots of great singers who are sitting at home at the moment. Thanks for all of the beautiful work you create. Much appreciated.
One of my favorite tunes. You guys couldn't have done it better!
Thanks for the nice comment! And thanks for sharing this video with your friends! :)
Trudbol/Julien, I hope you know how much so many of us love your offerings. You just keep getting better with each addition. We need this out here!

Oh, my. I'm grinning ear to ear. Such wonderful work on such a great tune. I just listened to it about 30 times. Thank you!
Pete Avendano, your voice is truly amazing.
0:13 - Enrico looks like a very low-level vampire here.
I love blackbirds & I loved your version. You guys give me such a good feeling when you sing!
I love the ornament you use in the whistling section! Very cleverly done
One of my favorite song by the Beatles, I'm a huge Beatles fan👽👽💖💘🌿💿
Me too :') it's sad Cuz the country I come from hardly has any Beatles fans :(
+Namita Mohinani mine too
LOVE the arrangement, and how each of you were featured - it gave us a chance to hear each of your voices, and they're wonderful. :)
Thanks! It wasn't hard, it just took a bit of work. We all come from different countries (USA / Italy / France), record with different equipment, lighting, etc. The difficulty is to give the illusion we're an actual group.
Talk about a great mix!!! Beatles, King Singers, and Trudbol!! PERFECT!!!
@crazyyfreak Haha, you crazy freak! Thanks for all the nice comments you left on my videos, delighted you're enjoying (and sharing) them. Cheers ;-)
Tenor / tenor / bass / bass. It's sheet music for 4-part vocal harmony for men, like the videos I sing on my channel.

Glad you enjoyed it! Show it to your friends! :)
@JoriWinter Thank you! Be sure to check out Enrico's and Pete's channels, lots of goodies there too. ;-)
Yes, it was really nice to have this exchange with you, I appreciate you taking time to write all your impressions.
RUclips is (unfortunately) progressively becoming a TV-like media, encouraging continuous video consumption at the expense of social interaction & written text, so it's good to read some detailed feedback like this.

And finally thanks for sharing my work, much appreciated. ;)
Well I'm very glad we had this interchange! It makes sense that you would need to lip sync when singing this, and I hadn't thought of that. I think what I heard when you were singing was you hitting the perfect resonant frequency of whatever room you were singing in. Great job all around! Now I am fully blown away! I also (always) liked your editing job with fading in the different video squares. I'll have to share this! Keep them coming!
