Very nice ! Just a question, can these wilesco models still move even after the wheels have been swapped out for mamod ones ? Because in any video I see of these models with the mamod wheels they just run them stationary and are never shown in gear.
Yes, they can move as well as with Wilesco original wheels. The gear which drives the left wheel fits into the Mamod wheel as well. I just enjoyed the smoothly working engine and the lights. 😊
@@anythingoldmechanical Well yh according to Keith Appleton. Not entirely sure if its the case with all of them but defenetly some of them. Think about it. What's the advantage of having it generate forward ? Its not like you can drive about (on the ful size of course) with the belt on, it would be dangerous as it could fall off. Its not like the model where the belt runs in a slot on the flywheel.
@@lorenzosdeadchannel It's all about grip, when using a flat belt.. On a full size engine, a flat belt pulley gets much more grip when driving in the forward direction. The belt is then tight on the bottom, whilst the top is slack, allowing it to hug the pulley much better.. as it gives a bigger area of contact. Showmans dynamo's, unlike what you see on models (Which are nothing more than a permanent magnet motor) can also only generate in the forward direction.. so you cannot tell me that they all must be wired wrongly! It's a known fact that any machinery driven by a flat belt ALWAYS is driven in the forward direction for this reason alone. The only time a belt is driven in the opposite direction, is when the belt is crossed, allowing the machinery or the prime mover to travel in one direction whilst whatever its belted too travels in the opposite direction.
Uh oh - I don't know it anymore. It was a smokebox door for a garden railway steam loco. Maybe 'gauge 2' or similar. Sorry, but can't remember the manufacturer. I found it on ebay.UK.
Just take the original mamod rims, punch the center out original wilesco rims and press the outer ring of the wilesco rim onto the mamod wheel. Use what ever u think to be best as a space.
Yes, they are original Wilesco wheels. I just punched the 2 center pieces out, turned them out of the original position so that I got the look of twice as much spokes as before and pressed them back into the rim.
Brilliant job. I've just brought one of these on Saturday.
Top job , look's 100% better then ,as the Wilesco started out . Top marks .
Fantastic improvement
Very smart job! Well done! I like the new controls for the regulator and gear!
Fantastic job!..pity you didn't drop the roof height though.
A great engine
👍
Really nice, although I'd have the boiler painted maroon

Very nice, how did you fix the barley brass twists to the roof ?
Very nice.
Reverse the dynamo wires so it generates in the correct direction!
Actually as far as I know showman engines are meant to generate power only when running stationary in reverse so technically its wired up correctly.
@@lorenzosdeadchannel Really?
Then you need to go to a big steam rally!

Not ONE is generating in the backward direction.

Where did you get the smoke box door? By the way, on a Wilesco, the hinge of the smoke box door should be on the bottom!
Uh oh - I don't know it anymore. It was a smokebox door for a garden railway steam loco. Maybe 'gauge 2' or similar. Sorry, but can't remember the manufacturer. I found it on ebay.UK.
Brilliant modified showmans! How did you convert the back wheels to mamod ones?
Just take the original mamod rims, punch the center out original wilesco rims and press the outer ring of the wilesco rim onto the mamod wheel. Use what ever u think to be best as a space.
Sehr schöne Maschine ! Warum flattert der Riemen so ?
Vielen Dank fürs Lob!

How did u do the smoke box thinking of doing it to my crane engine
The smoke box is the original Wilesco one. I just added the smoke box door from a garden railway locomotive (see video from 01:35).
I have a D409 but I do not know of a D419. What is the difference? Do you mean the Wilesco D409?
It's just the kit version of the D409.
What axel and spacers did you use to work with the mamod wheels?
The 'W02 Wilesco traction engine axle set' of C.J.W. STEAM Ltd

What about the wheel spacers did you make custom ones or did you buy them? Thanks.
@@thifdy810 Do you mean the spacers between the Mamod wheels and the Wilesco rims? They are just polystyrene strips glued in.
@@suomenssteamchannel4106 no the actual spacers between the wheels and fire box
