      今は結構減ってるけど具志堅さんの時代だといわゆる伝統派の中でも古い伝統派(戦争を生き抜いた戦前世代)が生きてたらしいですからね

    久しぶりの明武館八木道場(しかも4階建に驚き!!)
    あの鍛錬具を見ているとやってみたいですね(チーシは頭打ちそうやし、ガーミは回した時にスネ打ちそう)
    実演する八木明人先生と人体分析官の中野先生の説明はとてもわかりやすい。
    10:48 2人が巻き藁を打っているところを見て、映画「黒帯」の最初のシーンを思い出しました。
    日常生活の中に空手が溶け込んでいる沖縄の文化だからこその最高の景色ですね。

    really cool that they also work on holding in with the hand open against it like that so now the work on activating the muscles both in contraction and expansion. very important not only for grappling but injury prevent

    I no longer practice martial arts but the second exercises demonstrated look like a variation of 'Indian Club swinging'. I currently use 2 kg steel Indian clubs and a 4lb masons hammer and with both have done very similar exercises for the purpose of hand grip, wrist and arm strengthening that I worked out myself, as well as basic Indian club swings with a 1lb set of clubs for shoulder rotation exercises. Works a treat.

    Merci de transcrire en français. J'ai 70 ans de différentes pratiques (chinoises, japonaises, thaïlandaises, boxe anglaise et plusieurs styles de self-défense). Et je poursuis toujours 6 trainings hebdomadaires de 2 heures chacun. Ce que je récuse en France c'est la façon de permettre ou non certaines frappes ou contres. Les combats sont trop politisés par des comiques ne comprenant rien au bushido et à la synthèse d'une défense majeure et cruciale. En tout cas merci pour vos formidables vidéos. J'aime beaucoup Sensei Nakano. B

    The Vertical Fist has many advantages. 1) Its makes for faster transitions between each technique 2) Its narrow width, allows it to snake into the tightest of spaces 3) The Downwards pointing Elbow will help protect your ribs, as its being thrown. You also do not fully lock out the elbow, so that its nearly impossible for the OP to be able to lock your arm out, and or Break your arm. 4) In many Chinese arts, you do not extend your shoulders forwards, which would detach your structural strength away from your arm... making your tech much weaker at impact (as well as opening you up to be pulled or hit in your ribs).
    As for thinking that a Twisting punch is "Stronger".. thats just not really true. Chinese arts have "Fajin ("Explosive Power" - in very short ranges of space). You can develop enough power in less than 6 inches worth of space... to be able to "END" the attacker.
    As for the Makiwara.. its not bad for developing some level of conditioning, and Penetration strength. However... if you want the ultimate in Conditioning, you want to be hitting a Wall Mounted Sandbag, filled with Coarse Grain beach sand. On impact, the sand will conform around the shape of your knuckles.. but right after that.. will become solid and hard as a ROCK. And since its mounted to a Solid Brick/Concrete wall... its not going to move or flex at all. This means that all of your bodies forces, will be bounced backwards into you.. and will challenge your Entire Internal Structure... from your Fist to your Feet. So... you are not just developing your fist... but your Entire Body.. when you train with a Wall-Bag. The Chinese use a special all-natural Herbal Lineament, that you apply before and after your conditioning. This stuff is beyond amazing. Ive had painful and swollen injuries... and rubbed two drops worth of this Lineament into the injury... and in less than 5 minutes... there was NO visibly swelling, nor redness.. and about 90%l of the pain was gone. Its vastly speeds up the healing processes of the body. It helps to Prevent injuries while you train.. and, it ends up speeding up the process of making your Bone and Tissues more Dense... as well as helps to prevent the skin from Flaking and becoming too Calloused looking. Basically, helps to maintain the skins flexibility.. while still having it be dense, and tough, like shoe leather.
    In my case... I developed my Fists/Hands on both the Sandbags.. as well a Heavy Bag. The sandbag is best for Hard Impacts. The heavy bag, is good for developing Penetration Strength. When you have developed both of these... you can choose which type of strike that you want to apply... or combine them. I also used to hit a free-hanging bag, filled with about 15 lbs worth of Steel BBs.
    I believe the Chinese also use the Heavy Jar training. But Ive also seen Stone-Block training usage... especially in Chinese Wrestling (Shuai Jiao ?). In my art.. we strengthened the Wrists, by single hand holding a 9ft lone Pole. You put your arm at your sides, and just rotated your wrists up and down... to make the Pole Raise and Lower. If you are not strong enough, you can grasp the pole closer to the middle.. to reduce the weight. Its Brutal. Another version of arm strength, was by holding the pole with two arms... but the pole was hanging to the left or right of your body. Since most of the pole was hanging to the side... it was forcing your arms to be very stressed... when you are trying to keep it perfectly level (arms extended out in front of you). You would thrust your arms forwards and backwards... about 800 to 1000 times... similar to a pushup motion. But as you were doing this exercise... you had to try to keep the pole completely level at the same time... and it was not easy... especially the longer you had been doing the drill (fatigue would begin to effect you).
    In addition to these.. there are things like leg spins and leg lifts. I used to do sessions of these with 10 or 15 lb ankle weights on. As well as standing upright, and fully extending the legs... and maintaining that pose for like 2 to 3 minutes per leg.

    If he has not already tried it, I think Nakano Sensei should visit Uechi Sensei and try the vertical fist and forearm blocking of Isshin Ryu.

    I don't know for martial arts, but I can say when you are boxing and your opponent moves you with his fists, that has a psychological effect. You move kids, not adults. Only in a movie, you block something, punching hurts you in two ways, each time, and you can avoid, the only thing I was able to do, it was to be one step behind his shoulder and he tried to move me back. Of course, I had gloves but they were stained of blood inside. This is only 5 minutes, I had to push hard to breath, no oxygen and I had to do.

    Karate is NOT ancient. The correct definition of ancient is over 1000 years ago.

      Being that Karate's roots came from an Ancient Chinese art (I believe White Crane)... one could argue that it is Ancient. Of course, its not anywhere near as In depth as the Parent art.. and its further Degraded its abilities, as the Industrial Revolution hit.

      @@johndough8115, even "kung fu" is not ancient for the same reason: it is a watered-down art that is no longer anything like it was even, say, 150 years ago. Even then, everything I read makes karate not even 200 years old. Also, by definition, ancient means something is no longer in existance.
