I like the wow content a lot, but aside from the game itself i really really want to see you interact with other content creators much more often. The WC3 tournament was so great, and this is way more of that. Your dry sense of humour and calmness plays SO well with other content creators. Crazy yelling psychos? The contrast is so fun to watch. Calm wholesome like Xaryu? Instant synergy.
From 0 to hero in just a few days. Best WoW content in the last 2 decades. Getting the infos from top gamers but chunked and challenged by a fresh player (and both are general smart and know to use words) is the info package I never knew I would want and love. Thanks to you and your teachers.
Ahmpy is explaining things in such an efficient way, that seems perfect for Grubby, who is so eager to learn, which I love. That being said, I don't think Grubby should try AOE grinding to 60. You miss out on a lot the game has to offer, and for a first timer I would definitely not recommend it. Love the content with Ahmp and Xaryu so far, started watching when you streamed Dota (that and WoW are my 2 main games) so was happy to see you in OF
one more spell he didn't mention you can use to pull mobs far away is Counterspell, you learn it at 24 so you probably already have it depending on how long ago this vid was. fire blast range is a little short, but CS has like the full 30y! something you must keep in mind is that it doesn't damage the mob so the mob tag isn't yours until you hit it, in case you are competing with other players/mages. there are some more neat little things to know as you level, ahmpy already mentioned cone of cold (learned at 26), what he didn't mention is that you can endlessly kite mobs with cone of cold while backpedaling until it's off cooldown and cast it again and use it to easily reposition mobs for blizzard into one stack, one important note about CoC is that the slow is LOWER than imp. blizzard so it will NOT stack and will NOT override that effect, so you have to cast it when blizzard slow wears off!
Using the plater addon will add the debuff icons and timer above the mobs hp bars so you can see debuffs on all the mobs in the area which will make it easier to see how long mobs are slowed or cced.
Even as a WoW veteran I knew I'd enjoy and even learn something when WoW God Ahmpy teaches a pro gamer like Grubby. I never knew mobs releash when they stand still for 2 sec. If I could give one general advice to Grubby: Use Fireblast more regular on low hp mobs instead of wanding or even frostbolt/firebolt. Highest dps waste for casters are bad target choices. In dungeons Grubby often starts casting like frostbolt on a 10% mob and it dies before he finishes his cast.
Happy to see you playing some WoW classic and enjoying it! Using mana shield+frost shield, and maintaining the spells is a great buffer between you and death. Having both shields up at all times saved me from soo many mistakes.
Grubby, as a long time subscriber and channel lurker I must say watching you explore games and interacting with their communities makes me so happy. You are such a good vibe and I hope you keep doing what you're doing forever!
The most key thing to learn when doing Mage AoE: 1 resist = 1 death. There will be times when you're low HP, almost done with a pull, and a mob will resist blizzard or frost nova and start bashing you. Don't panic. If a mob resists: be ready to sheep, or blink, or carry speed pots, or target dummy, or use cone of cold to slow the mob that resisted so you can run away and reset the pull. Strafe away from the mob, and/or jump-turn when they swing so your back isn't to them and they can't daze you. On a regular server you can save a lot of bad pulls, on HC I wouldn't risk it unless you're 100% confident it can be saved. I died over 100 times before level 40 learning Mage AoE, doing a lot of bad pulls and limit testing, and now I can do 12+ mob pulls and solo some dungeons in just a couple pulls. It's really fun, but also very punishing! Good luck!! Edit: Protip from a fellow AoE noob: Ice Block has killed me way more times than it's saved me when AoE'ing. Avoid using it, if possible. If enough mobs are on you when the block ends and you can't Nova fast enough to run out of their range, you're probably dead. The higher your ping is, the more likely you are to die. Use it with extreme caution. There are some AoE strats that use Ice Block, mostly to stack a lot of mobs for a Nova. Don't ever do those on HC unless you're seasoned. As someone learning, I'd try to avoid using it at all while AoE'ing unless you're using it defensively with a cancel aura/blink macro to remove some debuffs that are gonna kill you.
@@Tartersauce101 You've watched it, I've lived it. Of course you can AoE for hours with no danger, but getting to that point takes knowledge and practice. For someone new to the game, and playing HC, it's definitely dangerous.
What a master class. very nice. As this is hardcore better to reset even 50 times in a row as to die. Learning AOE mage in hardcore as someone practically completely new to the game. Well. No matter what this Fangs event will bring just for that you got the balls of steel award. With the deeper spot at the farm near the wall. I guess what ahmpy wanted to point out there was to be very aware of mob pathing and exits. If for some reason it goes really south you want some space to run and reset without agroing new mob. I mean that in a nutshell is basically the vast amount of deathclips, respwans or layering happens which close of exits and trying to run will just pull more and more. Hence better to be on the outside and have some room.
@grubby around 15:00 you were asking how many seconds it leashes: 10 sec + 1 sec for each 10 lvl on t he mob. it is 22, so it is 12 sec. This rule it is for most of the mobs until 60. The 2 sec standing still re-leashing is usually what gets u killed. There is 1 more thing: Hitbox here is NOT like wc3, you are not a square, you are an rectangle. So if you Nova a lot of mobs, sometimes you HAVE to backpedal 1 or 2 step BEFORE turning, otherwise if u insta turn they have range to hit you
I didn't realize there was an actual formula for leashing. And for the hitbox, isn't it also heavily influenced by the latency, essentially? Afaik every single/slightest movement sends a signal to the server for positioning which tells everything including mobs / spells where you are at and there can be a delay which causes that window for hitting your character as you turn or backpedal etc?
@@Lionimia You know when you are running from mobs and you don't want to give them your back because of daze and you only strafe? Didn't you ever tought that they were hitting you from far away? You can try yourself doing this: Stop a mob(entangle, nova, etc...) something that they can still hit you but you are 1 inch away and you are facing them. Then you turn, When you turn 90º from him and are on your side they will hit you. The problem with mages on AOE is that you nova 5 mobs on the same place and YOU ARE FACING THEM, but close, when you try to turn they all insta hit and you die. So if you are too close you have to backpedal once or twice and then turn.
Wow this is some advanced stuff! Please be aware of your surrondings Grubby, especially WATCH YOUR BACK. I feel like Ahmpy didn't call you out on that enough. Love the content ❤

So interesting to see the difference in pickup speed and learning from masters between Tyler1 and Grubby, Tyler has a typical need to self teach to 80% mentality where grubby is ill be learned to 80% at speed and master myself type of guy. I'd generally prefer a hire with Grubby's mentality, but Tyler's do have their place in the world in my experience.
So one issue I see you doing is you're putting a little too much emphasis on running max range after your first nova before you cast blizzard. You really don't need to run to max range. What's more important is that you get a clean blizzard off before the nova breaks. The reason being is because a mob might break out of the nova early due to a heartbeat. It doesn't happen often but it happens. So when that happens you would have been better off if he was slowed by blizzard. You can always readjust your position in-between your next blizzard and after your second nova. Key take away: It's more important to get a clean blizzard off over all the mobs before the nova breaks than it is to worry about whether you're max range or not. The slow you apply with 3/3 improved blizzard + permafrost is so massive you will always be able to out run with that slow applied. But... if the nova breaks early and they don't have a slow applied that's when it gets sketchy. After you get "cone of cold" it will be even easier because you'll have that to fall back on as an instant cast AoE slow if needed. Other than that you're doing good 👍 Just to see what Mage is capable of you should look up some videos on Mage soloing dungeons like the "ZF Graveyard farm" it's really good for farming gold and it's also really fun!
Not sure if Amphy said it or noticed it at all but you gotta hit all the mobs with blizzard. Few times you either run a bit too far and you place blizzard too forward so the back mobs dont get hit and few times a mob almost goes trough from the back line to the front without getting a single tick. Dont think its actually possible for a mob to run trough the blizzard between the ticks and not get hit at all but still messes up group set up and mobs hp where few mobs get hit from all the ticks and few get hit by 1 or 2. In a pull with 3 blizzards imagine how different their hp will be. 1:23:38 as an example check the second blizzard cast how the last mob runs trough the whole blizzard channel without getting hit
Only time i would really use left click to turn camera is while running away to quickly see how far away mobs are. Or when your using blizzard while facing away. Its easy to get discombobulated while doing that tho so not for too long.
