Seri remember this is set in Australia as that is the only place Sugar gliders exist. It would be changed slightly but no new species arrived. That wasn't an Anoli that was a skink that had slightly adapted to a tropical life.
down here in the usa they have been bred in captivity for many years mine have some joeys to but i am not a breeder(not being rude)

You know, this game does remind me of Shelter, especially the first one. Gosh, I hope this game doesn't have a sad ending like Shelter did...

I've actually owned a sugar glider! Her name was Bella and she had a huge cage and was in very good condition. We ended up having to sell her though, but it was fun while it lasted! (I'm in a state where it is *legal* to own them, don't worry :] Writing this because in some states it's actually illegal-)

I have a fictional demon species that I am getting inspiration for from sugar gliders. So this series is an amazing gold mine

While I doubt arboreal gliders (like sugar gliders) will have much of a chance of surviving an extinction event forcing them to the ground, less specialized climbers can occasionally survive out of their element on the ground when extinction hits.
When the K-Pg, the extinction of non avian dinosaurs, a notable amount of the surviving mammals were actually arboreal species, who had to endure many years on the ground.
One of whom being our own ancestor, Purgatorius or one of its relatives.
It had to endure foraging for food on the ground instead of in the trees, hiding in burrows instead of in branches, and to top it all off in a collapsing ecosystem that let very few species survive.
But against all odds, they did, and after the environment got safer and the forests regrew, they returned to life on the trees.
In the new ecosystem with fewer competition, they diversified into new forms, some of whom eventually leaving the trees and returning to the ground tens of millions of years later (due to causes unrelated to a massive extinction event)
One of the lineages that returned to the ground lead to us, humans.

Fun fact seri! Black widow spiders are actually much more smaller than they a pear to be! Although, female spiders will always be bigger than a male spider and will have a much bigger abdomin as well! :D

the "black widow" is a redback spider which is related to the black widow and the redback spider is found in australia which is where sugar gliders are, while the black widow is found in the united states
