I think he realized that the Germans deserved that game after Strickland's error and the two very very difficult shots the Germans were left with. He knew he couldn't win the game cheaply and took on an unbelievable shot. No one can deny that that win was well deserved. Bravo to Efren for a spectacular game and outstanding sportsmanship.

Efren was 67 or 68 at the time. Can anyone think of another athlete in the history of sports that remained the best and was still doing incredible things in his sport at the age of 67? I can't think of one, Efren stands alone in that respct. What a shot! I dont know much about physics but Im sure Efren knew instinctively how it will work. The applied spin, the geometry , etc.. how in the world can he estimate , calculate & execute that shot? I can easily pocket balls: long shot, bank shot, carom ball, etc ... clear the table... playing billiard game on my PC computer ! (with cheat guide, showing wear the ball will go haha). Is that how Efren sees the pool table? The ability to estimate like a computer? Amazing!
I am watching the last shot over and over again in slow motion and I have the impression that the ball movement after it hits the last cushion is unreal...It's very strange it went in...It hits the cushion almost vertically, the speed goes suddently off and it is reflected towards the hole...
The application of the reverse spin happened when the cue ball hits the object ball but since the object ball was too close to the 1st rail. it didn't have an effect at all. The real spin took effect when it hit the 2nd rail, reversing its trajectory.
I used to be moderately good at pool. Once, while overseas, I was wasting time in a hall and I know the dude was watching me and sizing me up. After a terrific shot and win he slapped down $100 and I was like "sure why not, nothing better to do with my money". He broke and I proceeded to run the table on him for the first time in my life! He kept calling me a hustler, which I wasn't and smashed me in the face with the cue. That was 33 years ago and my nose is still crooked.
Sorry, but I have to say Efren is the only one of its kind in the game of billiards. If we have "Pacman" in boxing world, we have "Bata" in billiard world ;)

Efren previously said in an interview that he loved/liked watching amateur people play pool. It's where he learned the most shots. Trying to replicate the bad shots and thinking what he could do. I think it also greatly helped him in analyzing his kicks and shots.

That was the most incredible shot I have ever seen. Efren is a genius and I wish I could of met him. The Pool scene isn't so big in South Africa.
The fact that he ignored the easy shot to substitute for an impossible shot just shows u the sheer skill this man has. Unreal talent.

Efren previously said in an interview that he loved/liked watching amateur people play pool. It's where he learned the most shots. Trying to replicate the bad shots and thinking what he could do. I think it also greatly helped him in analyzing his kicks and shots.
