    As a defensive player, this is by far my favorite video you have released. Durkin plays like a beast. Nothing spectacular, just good physical, fundamental D. Great stuff.

    Just in case you haven't been online in the last few months, Lacrosse Film Room is a great channel and one of our personal favorites. Every lacrosse player should watch and learn. Film is the only way to take you game to the next level. These guys are great.

    Durkin should be the foundation of learning defense, a pure mentor on the field

    brilliant. awesome to see these matchup videos with all these completely different players with different play styles going head to head.

      That's exactly why I make them. Highlight videos don't give you a good enough look at them. Especially for defenders for whom a good job usually means keeping themselves out of any highlight videos.

    I've watched this video so much, partially because of Thompson, mostly b/c I enjoy watching Durkin play, he's very well suited for D pole.

      By far mate. I actually have this and several other 2013 games that ESPN had televised saved on DVR. It's good to see them for references and notes at times.

    Impressive video. I like how Tucker was economical with his stick checks and actually used his body to deter Lyle from getting to the hole. More youth d-poles should take after Tucker's example here.

    • @Robertsmith3828
      @Robertsmith3828 8 лет назад

      Goal-line extended defense. It's really defense 101, but impressive against a player of Lyle's stature. Lyle is so quick, so shifty, that even getting to the right spot is a credit to the defense. Another lost art, which is on display here, is using the pole to put space between the attackman and your feet. Allows the d-man to recover with his feet and get to gain position when the attackman makes a move to the goal.

    based on the clips you wouldnt know that Albany won. Hopkins had great defense in the clips. They are always on their man tight

    • @lacrossefilmroom
      @lacrossefilmroom  11 лет назад +8

      There is a huge selection bias in these clips though. The Hopkins defense is going to look it's best when Durkin is guarding the man with the ball.

    These videos are awesome, keep them coming! I'm from the UK and have been playing for 4 years now, and would absolutely kill to be able to play position and body like Durkin...really useful to have videos like this to learn from the top college players.

    He wasnt credited for assists on either of those passes leading to goals. Otherwise he would have the record for single season points at 115

    New to lacrosse.. can anyone tell me why at 1:25 ish, that is not a crosscheck called?

    • @frankwally2476
      @frankwally2476 7 лет назад

      It would be seen as "he is only making contact with one gloved hand at a time". College is rougher than the younger levels, and at anything less than that you would want to make it a little clearer. The line tends to be a little blurred in that situation, but what he is doing would be considered a defensive hold (which is a technique, not the technical foul). He is touching him with the hand on the stick and using it to keep him outside and play defense.

    I think a matchup with tom schreiber would be great for midfielders.. Maybe the Yale game

    • @lacrossefilmroom
      @lacrossefilmroom  11 лет назад

      Already on it. A Tom Schreiber video is the next one. Though it's from the game against Syracuse, so that you get to see him up against Matt Harris.
      I do have 2 Princeton games against Yale, so it might be interesting to put together videos for both games to see what kind of adjustments Yale made for defending him in the second game.

    Durkin plays great defense on Lyle…but Lyle's teammates were setup on the crease three times by him for point blank shots and didn't convert any. So credit Durkin with great defense but also recognize that Lyle could have easily gone 1 goal and 3 assists in this game too so….Also the goal is to win the game. Wait, Lyle didn't get an assist on the fast break where he flipped the ball to his brother for the down low shot that scored? Who was the "official" scorer on that one? His brother didn't make any move - just spun and shot low….check for yourself at 5:04 mark….that has to be an assist….Something wrong with that Homewood Field scorer.

      No. Take a look at the channel. This is one of 7 or so similar videos I've done. It's entirely about the matchup between two 1st team All-Americans. I didn't even realize Durkin had played him so well until after I finished the video.

    Thompson...strong athlete, no doubt...yet his pocket is a full on bag!!!! You put a stx Excalibur strung with leather in his hand and see what he can do....best stick skills ever..rob kavovitt...( rip)... ever pass he threw was $... he rarely got stripped...he didn't have a hammer wind up shot...but he kicked major ass using a Excalibur...same with Liam banks....those sticks...basically have small pockets...the defense men...can easily knock the ball out
