I'm old (57) and I absolutely LOVE this song! Haven't heard a song that I've liked this much in years. I don't pay a bit of attention to the lyrics or the video, for me it's the music...the beat and Robin Thicke's voice that makes me crazy HAPPY! Told my daughter how much I liked it and she said that a co worker who is my age is the same way about it and LOVES it.
Me, daughter's, granddaughters, and great granddaughter danced to this with so much of a dance beat. My great granddaughter screamed and danced with the same moves as this video, unbelievable to see a 2 yr old to dance with her own beat to this song. What a night, and will always remember this!!!! This song brings dance to our lives, 3 generations I see approve? Love this beat and lyrics!!! About time I hear such upbeat in music!!! Awsome!!! Blurred Lines can't beat!!!!
thank you Marvin Gaye . I remember when this song came out , I was telling everyone that it was Marvin Gaye's song , at time (the younger ones) wouldn't listen. I know a Marvin Gaye song when I hear one.
That's the way I see this song as a fun song.....I am 64 yrs. old and it never occurred to me it meant anything else but....some women should lighten up!!!
This is one of the songs that I know I’ve heard before when I was a kid but just can’t remember when I heard it. So it’s just in the back of my mind playing in repeat in a sort of reverbed tone.
I wrote a lot, but if you take your time to read, I think you could fine some valuable arguments about this song. I see in the comments a lot of people complaining about this song, claiming it's about rape and at the same time, I see that most of the people who are saying this are posting comments like:"When I was 10 I was listening to this, but now I know what the lyrics mean and I don't like it..." which means that they are still very young and probably were never at a party or in a club, where they would try to pick-up girls. 1. I personally encountered experiences with women in clubs in which I noticed these "blurred lines". You dance with a girl, kiss with her and then you ask her if she wants to go somewhere at her place or at your place or ask for her phone number and she says no. And then later in that night or in another night you encounter her again in the club, she smiles at you, you dance and kiss with her again, ask her the same question and maybe she is more willingly to accept or the answer could still be no. But when she refuses you first and you notice later that she is looking at you with a sexy look or she comes with a sexy smile at you, wanting to dance and kiss with you again, you begin to have some confidence and start saying in your mind:"I know you want it" 2.The "I know you want it" thing is not necessarily to be taken literally. It can also mean having a high self-esteem or being cocky because you had previous experiences with women, that were similar to the current one, in which you were first refused but after insisting a bit, she accepts. It does not mean that you do anything before she gives you her consent. There are many women who like to "tease" the men a bit before accepting to have sex with them. There are women that want men to be more persuasive and take control of the interaction because they find that as a trait of strong masculinity, they find it attractive, it can get them horny. Example: Let's say you danced with a woman in a club and kissed with her all night, and you asked her a few times if she wants to come to your place to have sex and she said no, but still continued to dance, drink shots and have fun with you. Then at the end of the night, when you are with her out in front of the club, you ask her again if she wants to go to your place and she says something like :"I don't know" or "I don't think that's a good idea" or a soft/insecure "no". The guy can look in her eyes and say with a confident voice:"Come on, we were making out all night, I know you want it" and there are big chances that she will accept, but of course she could just laugh and say no, in this case you have to respect her decision and go home alone. 3.Maybe the younger generation of women enjoys this type of "pick-up play" less(even do I doubt it). But just because you don't like it, that does not mean that you should label it as "rape", "toxic" or "sexual harassment". This type of "pick-up play" represents a way of having fun for BOTH sexes. 4. I see in the unrated video version of this song at 3:46 that a girl appears with a little toy stop sign on her ass, after which Pharrell says with a frustrated-complaining voice:"These blurred lines", which could mean that girls "tease men" into thinking they want sex, but afterwards they tell them no(stop), which make the men fell frustrated by these blurred lines but not rapists. 5.Overall, this is just a music video. There are a lot of music genres that have more controversial, explicit lyrics like horrorcore rap (ex: Eminem - Kim in which he talks about murdering his former wife, but in reality he never even hit her) or gangsta rap (ex: Eazy-E - Any last words, in which he talks about killing people, but in reality he never killed anybody) or many horror movies in which at the end after killing and torturing people, including kids, the bad guy wins. It's art, it's fiction. I understand not licking it, but getting mad about it
Sweetheart.....I just have to say this...I don't know how old you are. Judging from your pic, probably young enough to be my son. Having said that..this was a very mature, responsible, and SMART response to "rape culture". Of course I don't condone forced sex- unless it's a prearranged game, yadda yadda yadda. I also don't agree with the way women "carry" themselves when approaching, looking, watching, flirting with a man. Club, or bar, whatever the venue. It's outrageous. ****Young girls- by young, I mean, 18-25, dress in clothing that leaves ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the imagination, because they WANT to be seen and drooled over like a piece of meat...But, when that happens, even if only approached for a mere flirtatious verbal exchange, it can be sexual, and she gets upset because it WAS SEXUAL, but, based on her clothing, demeanor, actions, etc. what else is there to expect?? ****I hate to say this..(never thought I would...) but, I'm old school. When I was clubbing, drinking, dressing in so little clothing that if I didn't shave important nether-regions, it would be readily visible....We did that because we WANTED TO BE STARED AT! We wanted the attention. Why else?? We wanted to look hot so we could have free drinks, and a "night out", and the walk of shame as the sun was coming up. **** In society today. The entire world, we have become so self entitled, self centered, and self absorbed. We feel the need to whine and cry when something doesn't go how we want, or planned. We want our cake, and we want to eat it too. But...many don't want the consequences for their actions while dining on said cake. Maybe that bite was more than you expected?? **** My oldest son went to college in a small town that was there because of the university. The college supported that tiny town, the entire year. Even without a student attending, a large amount of residents still attended the sports and music activities. Their music programs are well known, and highly rated. My son is a music education teacher. He marched in their band for 5 years. (He didn't slack. Their Mus Ed program takes that long because of certs required, etc) The final year, this song was the hottest hit on the billboard. The band is well known for their marching style, their amazing talent playing, and their dancing. EVERYONE was ecstatic to hear that they were going to be playing this because of the "word on the campus" was it was a double dance break, and it was awesome. Game was Saturday...protests started on Weds from a small group on campus because this was supporting rape culture. The group was demanding the head of the music program, and the director--phd's in music & education, etc. be fired because of the mere PLAN to play and choreograph this song. It was yanked...the entire campus--minus the handful of protesting students and a smaller handful of parents, was devastated. For multiple reasons. These "kids" were ADULTS. 18-19 to 21-22 year olds. Wanting to showcase and entertain. It was outrageous. It actually made national news. Absolutely ridiculous. **** I equate this to the theory that "violent video games and violent music" cause kids to be violent and cause harm to others and themselves. Um. No....they don't. Scientific studies have proven they are completely separate. I will say that I waited for awhile before my sons were allowed toy guns, knives, swords. Or allowed to play any of the games...Mortal Combat...and, the ever popular GTA series. LOL But, I did let them, and was horrified at what I was watching, but...I also knew what I had INSTILLED in my sons, their morals and values, and their understanding of "real & make believe". ****So...young man......again----Impressively mature outlook on how things can go down in a club scene.
@@angelabrown1992 Thank you for your reply, very interesting. For the record, I am 31 years old but I haven't changed my profile photo in years. Another thing I would like to tell you is that the idea that video games make kids violent was promoted by conservatives, progressives hate video games because they stereotype and are politically incorrect(see the Gamergate case). I hoped that my generation will promote a free society, a more open-minded society but these SJWs and snowflakes are exactly like the conservatives they hate (I never liked them either). Here are some similarities: 1.Conservatives are against the use of profanity because it's "bad" or "indecent" but progressives are also against it because words like "cocksucker", "faggot", "bitch", "slut" are "bad" are never to be used in any context because they offend homosexuals and women. 2.Conservatives say that we all have to believe in God and kneel in front of him, who doesn't is a bad person, a sinner. Progressives tell us that we all have to support the Black lives matter movement and kneel for it, who doesn't is a bad person, a racist. 3.Conservatives are against hip hop because it talks about gang life, uses profanity and insults the right-wing capitalist system. Progressives are against hip hop because it objectifies women and insults gay people because rappers like to use the word "faggot". 4.Conservatives want all people to like Thanksgiving day, accusing those who don't that are not patriots. Progressives want all people to hate Thanksgiving day, accusing those who celebrate it of celebrating the death of the indians. 5.Conservatives want women to have children and be housewives, criticizing/pressuring those who aren't. Progressives want women to have a career, criticizing/pressuring those who don't. 6.Conservatives are against porn because it is obscene. Progressives are against porn because it presents women as sex objects. 7.Conservatives promote censorship against the use of dirty words on TV. Progressives promote censorship against the use of politically incorrect ideas on social media. 8.Conservatives hated stand-up comedians like George Carlin for daring to mock religion. Progressives hate stand-up comedians like Bill Burr for making jokes about race. 9.Conservatives tried to silence liberals like Michael Moore by protesting against his speech. Progressives tried to silence conservatives like Ben Shapiro by protesting against his speech. I hoped that the younger generations would make these "walls" disappear, that these subjects would not be considered controversial anymore... unfortunately, it seems that these walls will not disappear anytime soon.
Robin Thicke was already "on the map", he didn't need Miley to do it. Only can be considered a one hit wonder if the artist hasn't ever had a hit. Robin Thicke was around before Blurred Lines, which is his best IMO.
For some reason I keep hearing "Baby can you breed, a cactus from Jamaica, It always works for me! Its called a toot decayer" I might be going deaf! XD
Yep, been listening to this song and the Marvin Gaye song "Got to give it up" and the similarities to the both are so right on. This isn't my kind of music however, but since it was in the news, I thought I'd take a listen to the both of them and have listened to the both of them many times. So Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams you two are in trouble with the Marvin Gaye estate big time and I don't blame them for going after y'all. If my dad was as famous as the late Marvin Gaye was and someone done this to my late dad, I'd be coming after you as well.
Am I the only who came here to jam to the song after hearing it on a black noir edit on ig until I saw the comments and found out what the song is about! question how come no one noticed? And let us know? Especially grown people at the time who listen bc this came out when I was 12 and I’m not fluent English speaker!
As a female, I have to say this song is catchy, the lyrics might rage some females. But this is an interesting and catchy song. Love playing it when im on the busy motorway and its slow, you can see every drivers face as board as hell, and playing this on full volume just pisses them off even more. :D
the first time I heard this song I didn't exactly like it but after listening for 2 more times i'm completely hooked :D thanks for the lyrics! btw does anyone know the full name of the HOT brunette girl on the left? she's beautiful
I'm sure others have said this, but everyone have a listen to Marvin Gaye's song Got to Give it Up from 1977, and tell me what you hear... Nothing is new under the sun; just repeated generation to generation. Today's music gives nothing but vexation of spirit.
Where most people who are saying this are coming from is when they sing "I know you want it." And many people think that it's wrong to say that because you can't know if a girl wants it or not because you aren't that girl. It's her choice on whether or not she "wants it." As to whether or not you agree with the criticisms against this song is up to you.
+Ella Wofford Thats how I am here!!!!!!! Maybe they thought it not good for someone to be too sad so they added this song. Or this is sad as we see how music these days is turning into trash.
Have you noticed that the large majority of people who like this song are men. Oh wait, I mean immature little boys who believe that getting a woman to cheat on her man is somehow honorable. Not to mention the undertones of rape. This song is trash, makes me ashamed that weird Al yankovic made a spoof of it. Which I like and heard long before I ever heard the original . damn shame people will go looking for the original and see this piece of crap
@@davel67 lmaoo chill we al were kids back when this song was a thing and it sounded cool so we were jamming it didn't know the lyrics now i know but still jamming it coz it sounds cool anyway🤷🏻♂️
I usually don't like songs where a man has a high voice, but this one sounded so much like Marvin's Got to Give it Up, I couldn't resist it. Not everything is about race, so CTFD.
Scorpio80X Cause of the Soul Autobeat/Auto Chorus?....lot of songs sounded like that including the whiteman "spinoff" of soul..Disco Why cant this be a Saturday Night Fever tribute?
Never have been one to care about lyrics. If the beat and the bass catches me, that's all I care about. I've found that lyrics can be interpreted different ways, so I never try to analyze them. Just give me that bass!
It's not about rape!!! I have a 2 yr old that danced innocently to this song with such dance to match it, it was unbelievable to see such a thing. The spirit of dance in this little toddler was amazing. Will never forget when I hear this song. Not about a rapist? Gotta be kidding? Who are you maybe?

So Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams you two are in trouble with the Marvin Gaye estate big time and I don't blame them for going after y'all. If my dad was as famous as the late Marvin Gaye was and someone done this to my late dad, I'd be coming after you as well.

So this song is really about date ra..... ok...
It's always comical when news hits one day and someone has to say "sounds like so and so." You're so FULL of it!
First song I'll play on the 1.1.2020 straight up!!!

Why do he look so much like his dad!!!❤️
Am I the only who came here to jam to the song after hearing it on a black noir edit on ig until I saw the comments and found out what the song is about! question how come no one noticed? And let us know? Especially grown people at the time who listen bc this came out when I was 12 and I’m not fluent English speaker!
As a female, I have to say this song is catchy, the lyrics might rage some females. But this is an interesting and catchy song. Love playing it when im on the busy motorway and its slow, you can see every drivers face as board as hell, and playing this on full volume just pisses them off even more. :D
This song is catchy and I love it.
the first time I heard this song I didn't exactly like it but after listening for 2 more times i'm completely hooked :D thanks for the lyrics! btw does anyone know the full name of the HOT brunette girl on the left? she's beautiful
I feel so lucky,
You wanna hug me,
WHAT RHYMES WITH HUG ME :(
W
Idk
bug me, cog me, dag me, jag me or jug me, lag me, mug me, nag me, pug me, rug me, sag me, tag me, it’s so vague for me, wag me, yank me, zag me???

One of my favorites.
I'm crying from laughter because this was on a play list named "songs that make you sad" and I'm like "the truth in that"
+Ella Wofford Thats how I am here!!!!!!!

Best song of last year.
Les paroles sont un peu douteuses, mais l'air et l'ambiance du clip trop sympas.

Brett Paik Isn't it actually a "kind of a song" that we are speaking about?
Brett Paik
Grow up.
Brett Paik Racial difference my friend. Racial Difference ...
I usually don't like songs where a man has a high voice, but this one sounded so much like Marvin's Got to Give it Up, I couldn't resist it. Not everything is about race, so CTFD.
This is a Prince tribute band, right?
I think you mean Marvin Gaye?
Scorpio80X
haha YES! Got to give it up

Cause of the Soul Autobeat/Auto Chorus?....lot of songs sounded like that including the whiteman "spinoff" of soul..Disco
Why cant this be a Saturday Night Fever tribute?
The on screen lyrics are incorrect though...😯
anyone remember the year this song was released?was it 2012/13??
2012
I didn't even have to think about the answer bc my life's inventory is so in-depth that years and annuals are readily available. Humf
Finally...the correct lyrics :)
Never have been one to care about lyrics. If the beat and the bass catches me, that's all I care about. I've found that lyrics can be interpreted different ways, so I never try to analyze them. Just give me that bass!
This was my grandpa favorite song before he passed away ☹️
Ok, i'm going back to my basement, i had enough mainstream for today.

I love this song so much i just can't get it off my mind!!!!!!
It’s about rape
Yeah its amazing
It's not about rape!!! I have a 2 yr old that danced innocently to this song with such dance to match it, it was unbelievable to see such a thing. The spirit of dance in this little toddler was amazing. Will never forget when I hear this song. Not about a rapist? Gotta be kidding? Who are you maybe?
