I remember a friend telling me that if you had a lathe you could build every other tool in the shop. Never thought that was true, but after watching these I'm starting to believe it.
I love how stark of a contrast bending the rod to shape was compared to every single other step of this haha Making a fork: 75 steps Shaping the rod: stick it in a vice and push it over
I was waiting for him to start putting pins in a plate as a bending jig for the rod. But then vise. I guess it would still be faster to do it in the vise, and get the same finished results, even if you have to redo it a couple times.
I had a set of hanging hooks (about 30 of them, with three bends each) to be made from 3/8" bronze rod, and I was trying to come up with a slotted die, and a punch to press the rod into the die. Then a friend with a factory that specializes in CNC rod-bending offered to do it all, so I never got to see whether I could make the die and punch.
yea I currently expect a month between vids. You know how hard it is to binge watch 2/3 of this series and then have to wait soooooo long for the next episode. :)
Amazing craftsmanship, extremely clean editing, perfect lighting and as always super clear shots of all the working. It is a joy to watch your vids, they are always just about the work, no running on. I have yet to come across another RUclipsr that does such a clean and to the point video. Cheers. PS watching you size to final dimensions & polish those parts gives me anxiety, you show like 20 seconds but knowing it must take hours to get those mirror finishes.
Thank you for the encouragement mate, much appreciated. Sometimes it gives me a bit of anxiety too! Very relieved to not have to do any more cuts on those frames...
I have been watching this clock come together for over a year now, I am amazed at how much work has gone into this. One of my favorite series definitely. I eagerly anticipate your next video! Cheers.
Hey Chris! Thanks for all of the amazing videos. My sons (7 and 5) and I can't wait to see the clock run. Your videos have inspired me to buy a lathe, it was finally delivered last week. Now I need a mill!
Your videos are absolutely perfect. I'm a woodworker with almost no knowledge of metalworking and I love watching this series. Much love from California!
I have to agree with Brent. These videos are inspired and the craftsmanship is top notch in not only the machine work, but the videography as well. I love your superimposition of parts that have yet to be made over parts that have already been built (e.g. 15:55.) You really are deserving of a larger following. Keep at it, you're doing amazing work.
Very true. I was just going to comment here but decided to do it on Twitter to share the love. Astonishing attention to detail I sit here in awe watching a true master craftsman.
The craftsmanship in this series is amazing. I just built a 1911 hand gun and thought all the sanding and fitting was difficult. I can't imagine doing all the work needed for something like this.
I watch a lot of RUclips videos but I have to say Chris that yours are in a league of their own. The videography, music, voice and eecution are just fantastic. Also love that you use your own tools to manufacture even more tools that you need.
I`'ve been almost entranced as I've watched every video. I was only going to say "Thank you". But I must also say, whoever calls you an amateur must be a God. I look forward to more.
Your photography is a a continuing delight! You have fantastic technique and I can't help but be envious of your macro capability. This is in addition to your wonderful text and narration of course. Thank you so much for doing these videos!
i like how you showed the spark pattern while grinding drill rod on the belt sander. Nice touch and a great reminder of how to identify high carbon steel
The quality of your videos is just stunning. Everything about it. I have no real idea what is going on on the machining part, I'll probably never get close to a lathe, but boy am I impressed with what you do and how you present it. There is not one single shot out of frame, nothing out of focus, everything aims for perfection. WOW!
have you ever made or would you make an orrery? I'd love to see one made by you as you'd make the entire process as elegant and amazing as the finished product.
Yes,I'm pretty sure that is true, but it's not certain.Judging by the quality of the videos it probably takes around a week to edit and half a week(to a whole week) to shoot. So if he is putting out the first run in more than a week,he's likely getting to the finishing stages of work right now
Again an enjoyable video, with craftsmanship that is top notch. Every time I see that care for the details, it brings up a smile on my face...pure eye candy...!
Your machining and finishing skills are second to none mate! Such patients and precision. Makes me want to buy a tabletop lathe and give it a shot making something. I look forward to future projects for sure!
Thank you for sharing your world. You are quite skilled at what you do and it shows. Your attention to detail and patience with explaining how every step works is truly remarkable.
As an apprentice machinist, I have to say.. Your videos are mesmerizing. Incredibly informative no stone left unturned and always a beautiful end result!
This has been a fascinating series. I can't wait to see the clock in action, and I hope to see other fun projects from you when you're finished with this one. I'd also like to request a video tour of your workshop. I'd love to see where your equipment is located, how you have it organized, and how much space it takes up.
Hey Nathan, plenty more on the way, the next project to follow the clock shows great promise - I will do a shop tour at some point, but in the meantime: www.clickspringprojects.com/blog/from-little-things Terrific to have your support :)
I wait about 3 weeks and then start checking for a new video almost every day, sometimes twice a day. When a new one appears there is nothing more important for the next however many minutes. Such wonderful work on so many levels. Are you really just a one man operation? Keep 'em coming!
Aside from the clock itself (which is beautiful in its own right) your videos are always beautiful. They offer many ideas for improving my own videos (which are pretty ugly as yet).
I can not imagine better anti stress video.
They should give you an award for best RUclips video series.
I involuntary hold my breath on some of your final touches. Anyone else?
I really miss hearing you say "I'll see you ladder" Can't wait for patrion series 3
Oh hell yeah! New clickspring video!
Exactly what I said!
Oh no another month until the next... 🙃
I remember a friend telling me that if you had a lathe you could build every other tool in the shop. Never thought that was true, but after watching these I'm starting to believe it.
You'd probably need a milling machine as well.
Joshua Rosen some lathes have a milling attachment, with that you can build a better mill and a better lathe
I love how stark of a contrast bending the rod to shape was compared to every single other step of this haha
Making a fork: 75 steps
Shaping the rod: stick it in a vice and push it over
I was waiting for him to start putting pins in a plate as a bending jig for the rod. But then vise. I guess it would still be faster to do it in the vise, and get the same finished results, even if you have to redo it a couple times.
Ya I was definitely expecting a jig, but hey, can't argue with results!
No one said he did it only once. I am guessing that was his third try.
I was thinking the same thing!
So awesome! Can't wait to see it running for the first time. :)
Stay tuned Igor, first tick of the mechanism will be in the next vid :)
Probably just a bit over a week :)
yea I currently expect a month between vids.
You know how hard it is to binge watch 2/3 of this series and then have to wait soooooo long for the next episode. :)

And great narration too!
You should be awarded the Nobel Prize for clockmaking, machining and videography.
Man, this content is way too high quality for youtube. I love it
Nice to see that you finally got a spring loaded center punch. those things are great
Finally, after 1 year plus. Can't wait for the maiden run
I have been watching this clock come together for over a year now, I am amazed at how much work has gone into this. One of my favorite series definitely. I eagerly anticipate your next video! Cheers.
You channel is one of the few I watch a 1x speed anymore. Each video is a work of art to be enjoyed!!
If I had to choose a phrase to describe this Chanel it would be “casual perfection”
I thought I was meticulous before watching these of videos. Thumbs up !
You are quite the perfectionist, you know.
Can`t wait till you finally assemble this beautiful clock. ;)
Everytime I see there is a new video on this channel I like to finish all my stuff, shower, dinner, relax.... and finally watch this piece of art
Terrific to have your support Alex :)
Hey Chris! Thanks for all of the amazing videos. My sons (7 and 5) and I can't wait to see the clock run. Your videos have inspired me to buy a lathe, it was finally delivered last week. Now I need a mill!

Thank you Brent, terrific to have your support mate :)

2 BIG THUMBS UP BRENT...I agree 100%....Chris/Clickspring you are appreciated by so many...Clickspring quality can not be overstated...Jeff
The craftsmanship in this series is amazing. I just built a 1911 hand gun and thought all the sanding and fitting was difficult. I can't imagine doing all the work needed for something like this.
There are no words to describe how much I admire your work. Can't wait for the next video!

Dude you are an engineering genius.
So close, yet so var! I'm not sure you realize amount of joy your channel gives. Thanks so much!
I watch a lot of RUclips videos but I have to say Chris that yours are in a league of their own. The videography, music, voice and eecution are just fantastic. Also love that you use your own tools to manufacture even more tools that you need.
Thanks very much for the encouragement Almo, much appreciated, more on the way soon :)
I can't believe it's almost done. It 's been over a year and a half since you started this project!
oh man the precision on this build must be insanely high
It's hard to explain now awesome your work/channel is without using expletives. No need to reply. Thanks as always!
I`'ve been almost entranced as I've watched every video. I was only going to say "Thank you". But I must also say, whoever calls you an amateur must be a God. I look forward to more.
Cheers Dean, more on the way soon :)
Your photography is a a continuing delight! You have fantastic technique and I can't help but be envious of your macro capability. This is in addition to your wonderful text and narration of course. Thank you so much for doing these videos!
I hope you build another clock after this one is done. Your videos are amazing!
i like how you showed the spark pattern while grinding drill rod on the belt sander. Nice touch and a great reminder of how to identify high carbon steel
I'm pretty sure he was just cleaning the end of the rod, not specifically showing off the spark pattern
Anything not perfect in any of the videos in this channel? ... ... Nope. You are just killing it! Amazing!
Fascinating.
I'm going to have a party here when it's complete and running.
Me too!! Will be very pleased when I get this over the line, its been a long build...
Your work is top-notch and I truly appreciate you sharing your talent with the rest of us.

Oh, such beautiful craftsmanship. Great camera work too.
Beautiful work and cinematography. Thank you
New Clickspring video!!! This is my favorite channel on RUclips!
Watched the whole video with a smile on my face.
You are an ARTIST !!!!! I am a machinist for the last 18 years but not an artist.. there is a big difference..!!
Thanks for the encouragement George, very much appreciate your support :)
The quality of your videos is just stunning. Everything about it. I have no real idea what is going on on the machining part, I'll probably never get close to a lathe, but boy am I impressed with what you do and how you present it. There is not one single shot out of frame, nothing out of focus, everything aims for perfection. WOW!

Dropped work just to watch this!
The quality of these videos are amazing!
have you ever made or would you make an orrery? I'd love to see one made by you as you'd make the entire process as elegant and amazing as the finished product.
Wow! This is one of the best suggestions I have seen on RUclips.
Let's hope he reads this.
Agreed, that would be epic!
1000 times Like!!! What a series that would be!!
I didn't know that I knew what an orrery was. I love this idea!
Check KenTOonz he does that one :) clickspring and him are two of my fav youtube makers for such stuff :p
I reckon its made all ready and he just puts out a new video every so often. He is probably working on his next project right now.
That or he does this as a hobby (either way it's awesome
Yes,I'm pretty sure that is true, but it's not certain.Judging by the quality of the videos it probably takes around a week to edit and half a week(to a whole week) to shoot. So if he is putting out the first run in more than a week,he's likely getting to the finishing stages of work right now
Samo Dimitrije Yeah, and now he's getting to the smaller stuff so it shouldn't take as long but it's great all the same
+Blues 000 Small stuff can take the longest, depending on the number of operations and the complexity of each. It can go either way.
+Jon Miller That's true
You are the friggin' Frank Howard of the metal-working world. He's a wood-worker.
Beautiful work man, simply splendid.
Thank you, I'm a big fan of Frank's too
Again an enjoyable video, with craftsmanship that is top notch. Every time I see that care for the details, it brings up a smile on my face...pure eye candy...!
amazing series! I hope you'll make a video at the end explaining how it all works to people like me who have no idea.
I hadn't actually appreciated the mechanism for tuning the length of the pendulum (chord wrapped around knob) - very clever!
This is the first time a RUclips notification genuinely made me smile. :D
Terrific to have you watching :)
Your machining and finishing skills are second to none mate! Such patients and precision. Makes me want to buy a tabletop lathe and give it a shot making something. I look forward to future projects for sure!

Aside from the clock itself (which is beautiful in its own right) your videos are always beautiful. They offer many ideas for improving my own videos (which are pretty ugly as yet).
