I think you're either missing or forgetting about a few RS mechanics, most notably the redstone controls allowing you to set up that craft blocking you were mentioning, and the interfaces. I do agree that AE2 is easier to work with when setting up more advanced systems though, but the things you want to do can absolutely be done with just RS, and a bit of healthy problem solving logic :)
To second this and for anyone that wants to play this pack and use Refined Storage there is a section in the wiki of RS called "Locking and unlocking" that has a demo video on how to set it up to avoid mixing processing recipes.
Hey Chosen! For RS processing-autocrafting, it's best to use interfaces rather than importers for performance.
really wish you could just pipe the items back into the crafter like you can in AE2
I just reached the auto crafting stage but don’t understand why interfaces are better. Could you please explain it to me?
@@beaup314 I assume because importers constantly check the inventory every tick to see if it can pull items out vs interface where it only imports when items are put into the inventory.
@@TheQuinn50 This causes issues for me i took this guys advice and now whenever i reload into my world i have to break cables that are attached to the interfaces to get it working again.. not sure why. works great until i shut down my single player world and re load it. if i forget to do so all my bees/mekanism machines stop working/auto crafting
Took the time and paused here and there to fully understand the automation. All the tips are incredibly helpful. Can't wait to start ATM9 myself.

See this is about the level where I usually get lost and too far behind and find it too difficult to continue following the series. I'm trying to push myself a bit farther with each series but this level of automation is a tough hill to climb for me for whatever reason. Though I'm set up decent right now with Refined Storage so I'm going to try to keep pushing and keeping up so I can learn more about what the heck you were doing in this video
Just keep at it. His pace is ridiculous. Most people take a few months to complete the pack. Just use JEI to follow the process streams. Focus on one item at a time. The automation gets easier the more you set it up.

Once you start with the automation, it gets addictive and you end up automating everything. It took me a bit as well, but it makes these mod packs so much more fun and less of a grind.
tbh you dont have to follow his steps, for example im already covered in vibranium/unobtanium and have killed wither, ender, warden, and some misc bosses in the nether. But thats cause i enjoy that combat part. the automation stuff is just Quality Of Life and isnt necessary until late game because of the all the modium star and what not. I finished the whole first questline without a lick of automation and have also started breeding bees (im up to netherite) but thats kinda like a side thing to do while waiting for other things to finish.
Start slow and start small. Work on actually understanding why and how each automation works.
Chosen does a nice job of explaining what he is doing, just make sure you get the basics then you can expand it later as needed.
Automation does make the quality of life around the base so much nicer.
Especially when you start having some daily use "on demand" stuff that's just sitting there waiting for you when you need it.
You can use cable covers instead of trap doors, which require just an iron nugget and the block that you want to make as a cover.😀

i usually use an exporter with a crafting card for the catalysts and keep the infusers topped up ready for crafting, and put the crafters directly on top of the factories, it's a lot cleaner than using a buffer inventory
He does this janky mekanism setup in every modpack he plays, I think he just prefers the look or something lmfao
Using an exporter is a waste of resources. Given that you can use bees or mystical agriculture for infinite resources though, it's entirely up to the builder. But Chosen hasn't set any infinite farms up yet, so that's why he does it like this, imo.

What’s the fastest way to get redstone in bulk
There is blocking for autocrafters, you just need to use the redstone controls on the crafter and set it to only insert next set on pulse.
I use it for powah autocrafting, learned it from AlfredGG's video "Powah Automation with Refined Storage"
usa AE2, no redstone needed ;)
yes but in AE2 you can directly throw the pattern provider on the orb put on blocking mode then gg. RS you need to have the whole comparator setup.

Exporter with a crafting card on the pattern grid will keep patterns in stock for you, if you have the mats
The mekanism configurator can be used as a wrench for almost every single mod, which is super useful. This includes Create.
Making auto steel so much more complicated than it needs to be. Use 2 import busses, one on the back of the metallurgic infuser with a crafting upgrade making it send enriched carbon to it with 1 or more buffer in it, another import buss on the barrel sending back the enriched iron. Makes it so you can make just 1 steel if needed rather than 8 at a time and only need 1 pattern instead of 2. It also gets rid of the cabling mess making less lag since mekanisms item pipes arent the best for world lag.
yep, i kinda do like that too, but some peple dislike it because it 'wastes' the coal in the internal fluid tank, as it keeps exporting it untill the internal tank is full then it keeps 1 ECoal ready,
@@any1alive upfront it will cost more, but still a better way as it wastes less valuable material, not going to need coal as much as you are on iron gold and redstone. You could probably redstone it if enderIOs conduits still worked the same but then that is even more complicated and convoluted than what Chosen has here.
When I'm kickstarting the mechanism stuff, I just put a drawer with a pusher in front of the metallurgic infuser. That will auto push the material into the yellow slot. Assuming you set it up that way in the infuser. Then I have one infuser per type with an autocrafter on top, power in the back, and an importer on the bottom. Works really well.
Where did you show yourself hooking up the crafters to your refined storage with cables? You showed routing the cables, but I had no clue what I needed to hook up to what to get the normal (non-smelter) crafts working. I figured it out, thankfully.

No, that’s an extremely boring mod to play let alone watch someone else play. Pick task, put items in chest, wait for task to be completed. There’s a reason creators don’t release videos on it.
An alternative way to set up the mechanism factories is to use an exporter with a crafting upgrade to craft and fill the carbon/redstone/diamond. It will be a bit more wasteful as it constantly keeps the buffer full, but it's a simple setup. It will also make your patterns simple by not needing to include those items as well. I normally set up 4 factories (one for each enrichment type) and have a crafter, exporter, and importer for each. No additional cables or storage are needed.

For the Crafters, to prevent them from jumbling items in a mass craft, remove the barrel and run the crafter directly into the Mekanism Machine, and have the export from the Mekanism device into an Importer from RS. The Crafter will then detect what item it is connected to, and will show more clearly in the Crafter Manager.
I'd love to see the Stargate mod - I loved SG-1 and Atlantis, so seeing the mod would be awesome

They are called Gates from Powah to power them
keep in mind that if u do end up wanting wireless ra access u will need to swap out the advanced wireless antenna to a regular one, the upgraded one doesnt work with the dimensional upgrade card
I implemented the blocking thing at 18:25 for refined storage crafter using integrated dynamic for powah energizer. For mekanism, i find it too hard to do it again so i just make a specific machine for every recipe that rrquire a mekanism machine. Very nice.
You really should do a stream/series for Factorio. Entire game is about automating the process. Regardless, love your content, keep it up!

Having autocrafters export into a buffer inventory, and then be moved around by mekanism pipes to go into the proper slots would have been good info to know about a year ago when I was playing FTB Plexiglass Mountain lmao. Even though I was using AE2, I can assume that the methods of doing this is roughly the same.
You should get a high tier Powah reactor and use it to run a chunk destroyer in the mining dimension for a ton of resources very quickly.
Chosen you could use Laser I/o to better automate your different builds. Which can be used for everything. Not just your autocrafting. For instance your mob farm can benefit as well.
Man modded minecraft is so much more complex than it needs to be. Set everything up exactly like you did, and my autocrafting SHOWS that I have everything available, but it just DOESN'T craft when I click OK. I had to take off and re-apply a bunch of ender gates because that randomly stopped working. It's a huge mess. Kills the fun.
As soon as you brought up the Mek configuration card, I felt utterly defeated.

31:16 - the second machine is missing the @Powah ender gate on the front; once added it will work like a charm.
Applied Mekanistics makes dealing with Mekanism so much easier.
This makes me miss logistics pipes, where it's crafting lets you make a recipe(such as for the first alloy) where one input goes to one pipe, and another goes to another.
Hey Chosen! Instead of using a barrel and a cable to deal with those pesky “catalyst” spots you can use importers and exports no barrel or logistic cable. Just hook the crafter directed to the machine then a separate exporter for the catalyst with it filtered to the specific type coal redstone enriched etc. love your method as well took me ages to get it working when I tried to figure it out. Wasn’t really any good how tos out there at the time that I could find

I'm not sure if it was just the modpack I was using or not, but I was able to make steel that was usable for mekanism smelting iron ingots in a blasting furnace or iron furnace with a blasting upgrade. Maybe something to try for simplicity's sake?
@chosenarchitect in rs the crafters can stackupon eachother and you do not need seperate crafters for normal / processing patterns due to the pattern encoding.

It can speed up production to push into an inventory. It depends on the actual setup. It this is something that’s been actually measured.

Could you share the file with your controls or do you use the default its really hard with modpacks like these where there are so many conflicts, loving the series! Keep it up!
Set them up how you want. I wish the ATM team would disable all keybinds, except vanilla, by default. This would prevent the massive amount of conflicts.
If you have a dedicated machine for each catalyst, there is no reason to put the catalyst in the pattern, just have them exported to the machine directly and keep them full.

how did you set up the cables for the machines ?
Configuration Cards only work on the same machine.
i.e.: You can copy the settings for a metallurgic infuser and paste it on another metallurgic infuser. What you cannot do is copy the settings of a metallurgic infuser and paste it over a crusher or any other machine.
my favourite is corporea network from botania 😅 just kidding only weirdos uses that.
So in his automation for steel being setting up the steel to use 8 ingots per enriched carbon what happens when you send not in increments of 8 you will end up with extra steel dust in your system. Is that a problem.
I tried to use AE2 in another modpack since it was the only option for storage like this, and even following the little tutorial in the quest log I couldn't make it work, went to YT for a tutorial and even that wouldn't work, kept telling me I didn't have enough channels, which just didn't make sense to me, so maybe you could help explain all of that some when you get there? I just couldn't get why even after doing things the way the tutorial said it still didn't work.
AE2 is more complicated as you have limited numbers of channels (you can disable that in config) but I prefer it as it makes you design and plan your network out and problem solve where you are using too many channels - personally given how powerful AE2 and refined storage are with all the autocrafting, etc I think the complexity is a good balance. RS makes it a bit too simple in my view and mean a lot of the early game storage options get ignored a lot of the time.

it is the tool belt, you add more slots to it by using an anvil and applying pouches to the belt

32:07 it seems that they changed the recipe for refined obsidian dust. I can't infuse obsidian dust with enriched diamond. The only way to get it is through Productive Bees centrifuge. Is it bug?

What is the advantage to AE2 over RS?
It's easier to automate things, thanks to the pattern provider controls. In contrast, RS doesn't need you to deal with all these channel things that are always some kind of headache
@@jeanrdszI wouldn’t say it’s easier to automate, because it’s not. RS has single block auto crafting unlock AE2. But AE2 auto crafting is more powerful since it can interact w/ any block face and both push and pull out of a single face.
AE2 has channels to deal w/ and item time limits w/ their disks. But you can turn channels off in the configs and there’s a mod that gets rid of item type disk linits.

The channel things, although being pesky to deal, are a unique feature that makes the mod kinda balanced. I understand everyone that prefers using without it, but imo it's more fun to have it

crafters are powered by the RS system when you connect a cable to them from the controller or if they are connected to any other RS connected block
Chosen really trying to convince himself they AE2 is better than RF when we all know it isn't anymore lol. My last atm9 got corrupted because of AE2... In 1.20 it's so laggy.
I wish this pack wasn't so iffy when using stuff like integrated graphics (such as Intel HD 620)
It works fine on integrated graphics as long as you don’t turn shaders on. It’s basic Java code which an igou can handle. Low end mobile CPUs won’t run the game well.
wish i knew what i was doing wrong, following all the steps for the steel automation and it still wont work
Is anyone else having problems running this mod pack? When I play, it buffers a lot and is super slow. I have 12gb allocated to it and I have a 9600kf at 3.4 GHz but it is still super laggy. Any suggestions?
Why is a barrel used as a buffer? Couldn't you just stick the crafter right on the machine? While it does look good with the barrel, I'm curious about the purpose
its because the crafter cant send the catalus and the main ingredient into the top so it needs to be piped in some way

Sooooo... crafters only tell the machine what to craft... you dont need barrels... what I do is use 2 exporters and 1 importer per infuser... one is strictly exports the enriched material and the other is left alone then in the mekanism infuser I set the extra material to the enriched exported...
I guess im the weirdo here thinking that Mekanisms M.E. system is nicer. Of course my knowledge of it comes from 1.16.5 but just feels so much simpler.

No reason to use barrels with RS automation, it's making everything more complicated and laggy. Also, putting raw resources in the infusion hurts my high efficiency soul. Never do that guys, always use the enriched ones, just craft an enrichment machine from mekanism and make everything 8x cheaper 💀

Yeah i had the same problem im not sure why, it would enrich the coal no problem then it would stop the items would get stuck at the top barrel and not go into the next step
why switch to ae2 if you have infinite storage disk on the pack ?
Man i love rs so much simpler than ae2 and doesnt make me have to have 50 cards to store 1000 different stacks of items
