Educational video! Just as we’ve asked! Massive THANKS to you Captain and to the whole Fogo crew for listening to your fans and sharing your experience!
Thanks for helping me remember, just tightened the nuts of my xl after a year. Some were pretty loose. This was not even 5 minutes work and closing/opening the lid now feels like brand new. You dont have one, but I found my reggulator needs maintainace too every once and a while.
Ha, Just got through putting an over-the-top chili on the egg and this is the first video YT suggests. Using store-bought spices I made my own blend, nothing fancy but it is mine. Thanks as always!
@@len9483 nothing special, about a tablespoon each per pound cumin, chili powder, lowerys, about a tablespoon of pepper and garlic powder. Open to suggestions.
@@FOGOcharcoalThanks for the invite! We're flying from CT to Fort Lauderdale in June for a cruise. I'll see if I can spot your XL BGE in Coral Springs when we're still in the air and getting close to landing. ;-)
I finally got to finish watching this. Great tips - especially the foil ball and it does work! I might be an over achiever but occasionally I clean the grate - the stainless steel one - in the sink with running water, a scrubby, and some Dawn.
There is nothing wrong with that at all. People forget that they wash their pots and pans every time they use them, why not the grates? Some people I know use oven cleaner and they come out like brand new.
1:01 Great video! Fyi my bolts loosened and almost damaged the egg! A drop of loctite on each bolts on the rolling base! eliminate this problem! Have a great grilling season!
Great video Capt. Can you do a video on re-gluing the bottom vent. I think I have leak and can see gaps in the adhesive. Love the Fogo charcoal! I buy 4 bags every other month at my local Ace. I grill 4+ times a week even through the WI winters.
Great suggestion! We are glad you are loving the FOGO! Shoot me an email at ron@fogocharcoal.com or hit me on Instagram or Facebook, Cptnron302 and I'll get some stickers out to you.
Hello, thanks so much for the videos they really help! You mentioned about the kick ash basket, are these in your opinion better performing than BGE’s stainless steel fire bowl? I saw the benefit of kick ash’s is that you can get an adjustable divider and there’s no option for the BGE to have a divider. Also, I see kick ash do an ash can, is this something you have used and recommend? Thank you
I HIGHLY recommend using a Kick Ash Can, I use it in all of my Eggs. Both baskets will work well but I do tend to lean toward the KAB just a touch more. I feel it has better air flow. I do have dividers for my BGE Baskets too though. They are definitely available but it just may be for the XL
Good tips, thanks. Water boils at 100°C (and freezes at 0°C - that's the point of the scale 😁) so it's probably easier to see 100°C on your thermometer than 212°F when you do the calibration.
I have one in my garage, twice I've had neighbors knock on my door during a long smoke. I'm going to have to put a sign up, I may have the FD at my door
The only issue I could Come up with when calibrating your thermometer in the boiling water, is that the temp doesn’t stop rising once the water boils. So the water could have actually been at 225 degrees but it was adjusted back 10 degrees because it was thought to have been 212 degrees. So I would suggest using and instant read thermometer to temp the water before calibrating the analog thermometer. And then double check after with the instant read thermometer afterward.
It should not heat up past the boiling point unless you put the water under pressure. At the boiling point, it is now evaporating water into a gas. while boiling, it should not go past 212°.
I didn't know Eggs hibernate like bears during the winter. Did you have to go in a cave and poke it with a stick! Good to see the Egg is ready for cooking next time.
Stopped during the video to tighten my nuts. 😂There were several needing tightening. Even found one with the acorn cap broken off. Thanks for the reminder and tips!

Glad it helped! Yes, the easiest way to do those is to throw it in the fire when you're done cooking and then re season it.
Good tips, Cap! I would add taking balled up foil and cleaning the inside and throat of the dome. I see a lot of buildup there on mine.
Thank's for that tip. Will be checking mine today.
Great tip!

I've got 2 large BGEs. Both are 15 yrs old, needing TLC.
It really doesn't take very long and it is well worth it. If you take care of them, they will take care of you!

There’s nothing like starting the grilling season with an egg that’s totally clean, lubricated, and all the nuts are tightened.
You said it Craig! #TightenYourNuts
