  • Why Making Homemade Spice Mixes is a Really Good Idea.
Yep, I'm one of those people who can eat melted cheese on bread for dinner and enjoy the heck out of it. Side salad or no side salad!
But boring old melted cheese toast is easy to jazz up with a sprinkle of spices. Make these spice mixes ahead of time so you can sprinkle them on all kinds of things to make dinner easier.
And yes, I am aware that oregano, thyme, savory, and mint are herbs - not spices.
    Spice mixes featured:
Emeril's Essence (this makes a big batch)
    • 2.5 Tbsp paprika
    • 2 Tbsp salt
    • 2 Tbsp garlic powder
    • 1 Tbsp black pepper
    • 1 Tbsp onion powder
    • 1 Tbsp cayenne
    • 1 Tbsp oregano
    • 1 Tbsp thyme
    Tunisian Spice Mix
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • 1.5 tsp caraway
    • 1 tsp coriander
    • .5 tsp red pepper flakes
    • 5.5 tsp paprika
    • 5 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tsp salt
    • .5 tsp dried mint
    Sharena Sol
    • Equal parts paprika, summer savory, cumin, salt, and garlic powder

I started this channel because I love making dinner and eating dinner, but mostly because I was glued to cooking shows from a young age and I've always wanted my own cooking show.
I love sharing the tips I've learned working in professional kitchens, like how to cook more efficiently, and when it's ok to cut corners.
My cooking style is simple but flavourful. I cook with a lot of veggies but I'm not vegetarian. For me, a typical dinner is plant-forward, budget-friendly, non-fussy, and delicious. I make a lot of family-friendly comfort food and simple, realistic dinners for one (or two).

Hi! The ingredient amounts are all listed in the description box!
Oh, and I’m aware that these spice mixes also contain herbs. I just didn’t want to say “herb and spice mix” 87 times. 😅

@@HowToMakeDinner Im am doing okay, hanging in there :) I love this video so much, there's something so satisfying about opening that spice cabinet and actually using this stuff, having a mix ready that you made yourself is even better. I was making a cheesy Mexican rice for my toddler last night from a kid cookbook, he ended up wanting none of it so I go to enjoy it lol but it was so fun breaking out the onion powder, paprika, turmeric etc.. an today or tomorrow I'm making Ottolenghi's Mejadra with a side of grilled chicken probably and cucumber and sour cream salad, which is that lentil, rice and onion dish, got a big bag of lentils at the store today so looking forward to using more spices with it :) I actually found your channel through that video you had of cooking from his cookbook, ha :)

oooh the Tunisian spice blend - have always adored Cajun spices but the Tunisian spices I reckon is next level ♥ Love chickpeas too so I gotta' try that. Personally - and for those that also like Cajun seasonings - Moroccan spices/seasoning kinda' sits somewhere in between Cajun and Tunisian.

Nice to see you! I have a few H&S blends that i've made, I like the warm smoky sweet flavors and curry blends. That is a great gift box of goodies i've never heard of! lol Will you give an update as you experiment with them?

Cool video!! High quality spice blends are super underrated for home cooking. Food does NOT get more special if i throw paprika, onion powder etc. individually in a bowl. :D
    It just saves time.
Also i have to try those crisp chickpeas. Because i am pathologically addicted to potatoe chips, and theres probably nothing worse you can do for your health and weight than inhaling tons of chips. Its not gonna be as satisfying, but it could be a calorie-reasonable substitute ^^

Ooh I love a good potato chip too. But yes these chickpeas are highly snackable!

Keep it simple. Salt. Garlic, onion and red bell pepper. It’s just that easy.
