I remember watching this when it first aired as a young boy.
    It still does.

For me, "the soul does not record time, the soul only records growth" is the most profound of all Kung Fu teachings.

How can a product of pop culture change my outlook on life with such intensity? This makes me think that the media industry has produced something authentic, beautiful and good.

This is old pop culture. This was made in the 70s. We had already chucked God out and embraced the left years before but the downhill slope of western civ of society is gradual.
So... You still have quality shows like this that show blind monks teaching wisdom even if its foreign yet still good to learn and apply but then years later you have these shows come out that make sex, violence, selfishness and so on look good and encourage it.
So we go from Bishop Sheen, Master Po and the Shaolin Master teaching us respect and humility to shows like The Real O'neals that ridicule faith and people of faith, that teach that homosexuality is acceptable and tear apart aspects of catholic family, particularly Irish catholic family like mine. My pop grew up with Sheen, I grew up with Po, now my kids grow up with Lady Gaga and slut Britney.

Bhuddism has a lot of problems with it also. Christianity and Bhuddism have been corrupted and are full of divisions. But they have both retained good things, but most people focus on the negative instead of the positive. In 1968 the Dalai Lama told Thomas Merton he was very concerned about false teachers and corruption that had crept into Bhuddism.
