  • Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Outer Range Season 2
Outer Range Season 1 was full of twists and turns and revelations that left the Abbott family shaken over two years ago. In that time, audiences have been left with questions surrounding the west pasture where the mysterious black hole has become a central focus. Now, all seven episodes of Season 2 are available to binge on Prime Video, which means we've got even more questions. In this interview with star and director Josh Brolin, Collider's Steve Weintraub has the opportunity to ask some of those burning questions including the ending of Season 2, if the ending sets up an alternate timeline, how the hole might branch timelines, and more.
At the end of Season 1, Brolin's character, Royal Abbott, the patriarch of the family, made a jaw-dropping confession that changed the already-mysterious series drastically. During their conversation, Brolin talks about the "chaotic recalibration" this admission puts Outer Range Season 2 through, and how the success of sci-fi epics like Dune: Part Two make it possible for the creators and new showrunner Charles Murray (The Devil You Know) to take this Yellowstone-esque story and turn it on its head. We find out just how much Brolin and Murray have mapped out in regard to Season 3, what exactly Wayne Tillerson (Will Patton) may know, and the ultimate fate of certain characters.
You can check out the full conversation in the video above or in the transcript below for more about Outer Range Season 2, Brolin's feature directorial debut, and what he has to say about Zach Cregger's (Barbarian) next horror, Weapons.

"Real good" is an understatement. It is an amazing show, and Josh Brolin absolutely makes it. I had forgotten so much of the detail of Season 1 that I had to go back and watch it again, which was a treat when you see the show start with the bison staring at you with two arrows in its side. Brilliant foreshadowing.

Season 2 was excellent. The acting, cinematography, directing, story, music, everything was perfect. The only thing that bummed me out was it was only 7 episodes. It ended too fast. I need a 20-episode season for this show because it's that good! 🙂

I felt a clarity arrive in season two that felt perfect and perfectly timed. Until I watched a couple of RUclips videos today I didn't realize the showrunners had changed. Royal's openness about his secret(s), while different from season 1, actually made sense in season 2. I watched other shows where the lead or leads keep secrets for WAYYYY too long, which start to weigh on the viewer's patience. I'm very much looking forward to season 3 (fingers crossed the ratings are good for season 2).

Its nice to get the feeling brolin that they DO have a direction in mind its not just sci-fi jazz like lost where they make it up as they go. I think it will suffer if they go toward a "multiverse" direction though.
A good question would be what happens w the Perry character. Weve aeen the reprocussion of a charcter dying in the past has on the future but what happens when a character from the future surplants one from the past especially when you have charcaters who have the ability to remember multiple timelines.

Just finished watching S2, and regret Amazon waited so long to give the go ahead for a followup. It was a real brain twister to try to remember some important things that happened in S1. I really enjoyed the introduction of multiple versions of people and timelines, such as Joy's four years spent with the Shoshone. I hope there is a S3, but that it arrives much sooner than S2 did!

When Joy went back to the 1880s & met the other woman who said she was from 1972, they had a conversation about Led Zeppelin (liked the quoting of LZ lyrics btw) BUT she said her favorite song was Kashmir. That song/album was not released until 1975. Soooooo, is this an indication that different people are in different time streams or was it just an anacronism that tends to creep up in time travel shows?

  • @jsigur157

It looks to me like Perry is in a different reality from the reality everyone else is in and it seems that the killing of himself cements him into this reality where he doesn't have a murder charge hanging over his back. I suppose he can enter the hole again and possibly return to where he was but all of that is unclear./
Josh said, " The show can go anywhere it wants to now", as if that is a good thing after two years.
My counter is after two years, there should be some limits established as to where it can go
The time travel back to teepee land, I thought, was a precious waste of space because nothing occurred that moved the main story which needed moving. Therefore, one hour was wasted unless you like watching "woke ideology" of white man bad- non-whites good.
Too, the only connection that chapter had with anything from the main story is that the Indian Sheriff apparently had her life saved by a ten year old Royale. I am not sure that was needed at all and tested the bounds of believability.
The last scene said it all when Autumn, in a dream, told Royale "We have just begun." which is the feeling I had. (Nothing going forward need have any relevance to the story already given and literally anything can happen or WE'RE STARTING OVER!
Is that really a good thing after two years
If I seem harsh it's only because of my high expectations for this show. I still recommend it but am worried it could do what "Ozark" did which was get worse with each passing season

  • @jsigur157
    @jsigur157 26 дней назад +1

While Josh gives a compelling reason for going back to teepee land one has to see the big picture to understand compelling reasons not to go back to that time and place. You have to understand "woke"ideology and understand that themes supporting it are required inclusion in every show put out by the main streaming channels
Right now white men are everyone's favorite whipping boy and so to include a show that spent the whole time bashing whites is dubious to say the least especially when you understand that whites were encouraged to invade the west by the Deep State, the people behind colonialism and slavery, a multi generational elite class not necessarily white who basically wanted to coopt any open territory not already occupied by "the Abrahamic Religion" cult
Call whites mercenaries to that but ordinary whites did not establish military posts out west to protect all the people that were encouraged to invade those lands. It was the same families for the most part, causing world chaos now as they sell "whites are to blame" propaganda to the masses of the world.
Too, as I said elsewhere, that chapter's only reason for inclusion was to emphasize division to the masses and had little to do with the storyline or narrative to take it forward
