If you go back to episode 3 during the flashback you can hear edgar and noir talk about setting soilder boy up you also hear noirs name turn on subtitles and turn up volume
Karl Urban is killing his performance this season! Most ppl (rightly) appreciate Antony Starr's performance, but Urban deserves more recognition. The way he brings out the dark side of Butcher is amazing.
To be fair, I think it might be because Karl Urban has already proven himself in the grandp public many times and doesn't really need the spotlight. But I believe that this is Antony starr's "revelation" if you know what i mean, so i guess this gets more attention. But yeah in the end Urban is making yet another great performance!
MM didn't punch Todd for taking Jeanine to a political rally. He punched him for saying "Somebody has to be," after MM said to Todd, "You're not her father."
The editing done switching between Butchers memories and his current actions was incredible. He is his fathers son unfortunately(which is what Homelander learns as well)

I'm not really a romance movie guy but I watch Frenchie and Kimikos scenes over and over. The lack of verbal dialogue in the scene really emphasises how much they understand eachothers feelings, its beautiful
"interesting and unpredictable" k you guys keep telling yourselves that. The show is "Drama" now it's boring and actually really predictable. This show is too on the nose
I loved Hughey's reaction to it being brought up as well, like "The man who've been locked up and tortured for forty odd years has PTSD? I never imagined!"
Finally they're giving Black Noir his backstory and It is interesting as the comics, Its awesome that they planned the whole story from the start and not make one as the season goes along.
I mean yeah, it's TV show. They write the story, make the season, and just release chunks every week. The only issue is that there ARE inconsistencies that make it feel like they write per episode. Noir's injuries are completely different than what we're shown across the season. When he's force fed the almond joy, you can see the entirety of his lower face is burned. Then when we see him get the actual injury, we see only one side burnt, and his skull almost completely intact. Then with the cartoon representation, his skull appears to get mutilated, and part of his brain thrown out on the ground.
I think Hughie and Butcher will wind up taking the Permanent V to survive the side effects of the temp V. There were some permanent V remaining after Kimiko was injected by frenchie
I agree on that, they've used it in the comics, and I also think Hughie is gonna teleport into someone which might kill him and possibly seriously injure or kill homelander/noir/SB. Depending on how this next episode goes we might see a team up between noir and homelander to take down SB, they both play second fiddle to him in the history of Vought. We also haven't seen Ryan use his powers yet, but if we extrapolate from Homelander being stronger than SB by being raised with powers, then Ryan may be stronger than homelander or will be one day. I apologize for the run on sentences I'm only on my first morning coffee
Yeah when I first saw the title, reminded me of him, I thought it might save something that relates to him. Like candlelighter, lamp lighter? And also didn't he kill the kinds while they were in the bed so like I thought that it was an interesting title.
I love everything Jensen Ackles is doing as Soilder Boy. He basically is your Grumpy Grandpa’s version of a ‘real man’ but has mostly been a posterboy symbol of what that looked like in his era and his legend is more fiction then fact, despite all his powers. It’ll be interesting to see where things go now that he’s discovered Homelander is his son. But Jensen Ackles really rocks. Underrated actor, so much more then the Supernatural guy.
Really, i thought he was underused here, he does the most he can with the material, but the material given to him is still not good enough to make him really shine.
SB and Homelander are absolutely teaming up. Butcher now knows how to set off SB as he calls out having witnessed his PTSD, and I think he’ll bring along a radio or something to play Russian music to ensure SB actually explodesthis time to strip HL’s powers. He won’t care who’s around him when it happens just so long as it happens.
This was one of the most well made episodes of the series. The filmography was on point, there are some really beautiful shots in this episode, the plot was great, the cartoon part was so creative and the plot twist was unexpected. 10/10 for me.
I forgot how I was like: "What the eff did The Boys get me into?" when the cartoons interacted with Black Noir like Roger Rabbit 😳 But the depiction was a brilliant way to tell a brutal story and how we all cope with rough parts of Life in our own minds.
Some people called this episode a filler. For me, it was pretty good. I was expecting a meltdown from Homelander though, he is pretty close to the edge...
man the black noar flash backstory was very well directed , the way they used animation and didn't used real actress was cost saving and real brutal, personal i loved the touch they gave
That A train reveal was crazy! The black noir backstory was crazy! Butcher displaying emotion after realizing what he's doing to people on his vendetta against supes. This episode was better than herogasm to me. The writing was perfect. Herogasm was great but felt rushed.
it was said in an interview that there was one scene so brutal that jensen didn’t want to film it.. do you think it’s possible the animated segment was originally intended to be filmed but because of the brutality of noir’s beating and subsequent injuries they approached it differently? just a little theory

I found it interesting that in Noir's way of remembering the incident in Nicaragua, Stan is voiced by Espocito instead of the actor who played his younger version.
Was there another actor cast I don't remember? I knew immediately is was Esposito - I didn't realise he had a younger actor play him although I remember the rest of the scene.
They started those flasbacks by implying he did not fully remember everything that happened possibly some repressed memories in addition to the trauma. So he likely doesnt remember what the younger version actually sounded like.
That moment where homelander says “starlight you aren’t supposed to be recording when we’re going over lines” was amazing. Starlight had just moved her camera so no one could see the furious look on homelanders face as he tried to sound as happy and normal as he could to starlights 19 million followers. A+ acting.
Theory Time, Theory Time, Theory Time.... Edgar mentioned "He can fly" in this weeks episode when referring to Homelander as a boy in the conversation with Noir. You could see this as a throwaway or a clue, Jensen said in an interview that there was some pretty messed up stuff in this season that he outright wasn't comfortable with, in Herogasm he mentioned that Liberty (Stormfront) and himself created Herogasm many years ago, again could just be a throwaway but I think that Stormfront & Soldier Boy's DNA ended up creating Homelander with neither of their consent and Homelander went on to be in a relationship with her unknowingly or maybe she did know as she was weird which is all types of messed up.
But Stormfront's flying looked like it was tied to her electricity abilities though, maybe by ionising the air around her. Homelander's flying ability seems inherently different, also he has laser beams!
@@egrolla fair points but you know in the comics Homelander is made from Stormfront's DNA (He's a man in the books) and still has an adjusted power set... So not too much of a stretch if you look at it from there, also without knowing how Compound V works exactly, and considering Homelander was the first successful birth of a supe that didn't require V we can assume like other genetics that there are recessive powers that the parents don't display and dominant powers that do display and Homelander simply could've just obtained powers that where part of the recessive group of either of his parents. Either way I'm not married to the theory just think it would be a cool dark twist
@@THEShoky Yea but she was married to the creator of Vaught and held that power over the company. Its possible she probably wanted SBs DNA to form the perfect child. Maybe she saw SB as too much of a wild card but wanted to have an offspring that was controlled by Vaught from day 1.
Big props to The Boys’ showrunners on this exposition drop. To explore Black Noir’s character, history, trauma and motivation through the use of an animated acid trip is genius. Highlighting the child/drone demeanor and quiet emotional beats (crying on compound V news, comforting child in S2 opener), I’m super curious how it’s going to play out in the climax conflict…
Starlight getting the real stuff seemed quite convenient whereas Maeve got the temp V. Perhaps Maeve had a enough foresight to realise making Butcher a permanent supe would be a very BAD idea.
Permanent V is riskier for adults, most cases ends up the subject blowing themselves up or turning into a puddle of guts, and even if it was 100% chance of benefits at any age (like the comics), Butcher would probably never take it willy nilly

He likes the power and way more important now he has a chance without it hes no match for powerful supes but with V wich give him temporary more power hes more powerful than the most full time supes. And now if Soldier Boy gonna betray them hes got no other choice. Even if they come all back together they arnt powerful enough. Kimiko and Anni are a joke against them even if Maeve, A Train and Noir join the boys arnt they powerful enough. And not to forget if soldier boy only 1 time uses his chest burst super power he could make them all normal humans. Maybe there comes a new variant of V wich will give them powers. Now where the executives in Vought see how Homelander is getting out of hand they try to kill him and the boys are the only ones wich could defeat him. Maybe Stan Edgar makes a return with something in his back hand. I hope so because in my opinion the Boys will pay a huge price in this war.
Hmm. I can't pin down the episode but after the stormfront secret adult V testing site confrontation I think there was a reference to it being perfected.
Annie is gonna end up giving Hughie the blue V to save him from the lesions. She hands a bottle of it to Kimeko as soon as she says she’s gonna save him.
There's so much permanent V leftover after Kimiko's dose and it's in the foreground of the shot in the scene. I think it's hinting that Annie took more than just the one vial and maybe the other doses are for Billy and Hughie during the the big showdown with Soldier Boy and Homelander. She knows they've both taken it multiple times, but will need to be supes if they're to survive a battle with Homelander. Also we should have seen the team up with Solider Boy and Homie coming all along as it's what Annie has been broadcasting to her followers since the massacre at Herogasm. Setting the stage that they're both as bad as each other. Like father, like son.
I think it could be to help them both fight homelander as well as fight the shit in their brain from the “temp V”. But other than that you raise some great possibilities and overall great comment! :D
Do you really think Butcher and Hughie would take permanent V? And would Annie really give it to them? They all hate the idea of supes existing which is why the temporary stuff was ok to them. And if they do become permanent supes, it would make Homelander seem much less threatening since he’s pretty much on par with Homelander with V24 in his system.
@@kidus_1010 they’re gonna take whether they like it or not because that’s the only way they won’t die. They took too much of the temp V already and Butcher was already bleeding from his head. They need to be supes all the time to beat the cancer that comes from temp V. It’s sad for them but that’s what The Boys is all about really

I can see soldier boy and homelanders relationship being like billy and his dads. Soldier boy might encourage homelander to be more of “a swimmer” and make him even less humane if thats even possible. You can already see huge similarities between billys dad and soldier boy, especially in this episode and how soldier boy was trying to teach hughie to be all about the mission and forget about his loved ones.
This was probably one of the best filmed episodes. Seeing butchers backstory and how he slowly became his own father shown by the camera angles of him beating down gunpowder and others the same way his own father beat him. Then the same angle is shown AGAIN with soldier boy attacking mindstorm, cementing that he’s become the thing he hates (a monster supe) by using temp V.
Black Noir has quickly turned into one of my favorite characters. While at first I thought he would almost just be mercenary for The Seven, with the flashbacks and cartoon animations, he’s been given a lot of depth and is now very easy to empathize with.
I really like the twist about Soldier Boy being Homelanders Dad. There is a few different directions it could go but the thought of both of those maniacs running around together is scary.
Yeah is there an actual reason for that? Why not work together? #1 thing to remember is not to trash talk competitors, so im guessing theyre actually best friends 😂
Fantastic breakdown as usual. I'm very curious to see where A-Train's loyalty lies now. This whole season has been him post-V addiction and finally reflecting on how his previous selfish and ill-thought out actions have impacted others and himself. He's the reason Nathan is paralyzed and the reason he's been transplanted with that racist POS's heart. Definitely one of the more satisfying character arcs in the series as the very first season he's making callous jokes about killing Robin and seems to have ZERO empathy for anyone. This storyline snuck up on me in the best way possible.
just my theory...i think his redemption arc will ultimately lead to his death at the hands of homelander or someone else in season 4. he'll just be one of the many main characters to start dying as they work towards the final fight between butcher/the boys vs homelander.
I still think Homelander will choose Noir over SoldierBoy any day, as much as he wants a father figure he cares about his image and killing SB will save that plus Noir is literally the only person that’s got his back

Ashley told A-Train that “Soldier Boy killed Blue Hawk” but isn’t Vought’s official position that Soldier Boy isn’t back and Starlight is trafficking kids? so Ashley tells A-Train about Soldier Boy, but not that they’re denying Soldier Boy is back? seems like it might cause problems in the future, unless Ashley or someone else actually tells A-Train what’s up. if he makes a rogue public statement before that debrief happens, it’ll be bad news. also, Buster Beaver is fucking adorable.

Theory: (and spoilers-ish) The Story doesn't want to kill Hughie, just yet, I think Temp V will put him in the hospital though. Kimiko is trying to re-start her powers with Real V. Starlight, to save Hughie from dying from Temp V will stick him with a dose of their stolen Real V. Given how The Boys are... plotting against Butcher; if he gets the same salvation, then it would have to come from someone outside The Boys. I'd suspect Grace Mallory could step in to Real V butcher, unless she's killed when Homelander liberates Ryan.
If grace dies or is not going to give Butcher a dose, then only Hughie will take the V. When Kimiko gets the injection we can see that there is only one dose left, and I really think that was on purpose.
Kudos to writers 👏👏 The way they handle Black Noir is just excellent. Now I'm getting the feeling that Black Noir would join The Boys and will go against Soldier Boy. I can't even imagine what gonna happen next. But we're gonna see a huge battle in the finale that's for sure.
The only one who will join the Boys is Turbo Rush Noir's A Train because he's got somewhat of a redemption arc, he's a casualty of society so he will get down with the boys as the sum of thing 4 1nce.
Did u watch this episode? I wouldn’t say join the boys but I really feel like homelander will betray soldier boy for black nior honestly, thats why i feel like they made that 1 episode of diabolical canon to show that black nior was his day 1, with all his craziness
In a world where most of our franchises are falling apart, I'm am genuinely interested in this story and am not sure where it will go. Which is a great thing.
I think butcher or Hughie might end up taking Permanent Compound V in the end to save their lives. We've seen that Hughie has healing abilities on V-24 so Permeant Compound V should kick in his healing Factor and Save His Brain. As For Butcher Tho, I don't think he's gonna make it through, it really seems like they're building towards a one against all scenario where Butcher might end up dying trying to save Ryan and Hughie. The series could end in S4 with the boys now vowing to take down every bad supe they can find in honor of Butcher
i think homelander might decide to betray soldierboy, because noir was one of homelander's closest companions, and soldierboy wants to kill noir, and noir the same to soldierboy, homelander would have to choose between soldierboy and noir, i think he chooses noir bc of their history when the first time he met his father, it was a battle to kill him
Yeah, I think it will be interesting if Homelander finds out that all the heroic stuff about soldier boy is not true. Homelander is big on being considered a hero. I do think there is a chance that homelander could kill solderboy, so that he can look like he killed the villain.
The Vought American to Vought international is actually interesting. In the comics anytime a massive flop happened, like what happens with payback in Ww2, and after the events of the series, Vought just changes its business license and restructures into the exact same thing but under a new name to stop any kind of future litigation. Like what Meta just did.
It felt amazing finally being able to hate Soldier Boy, I knew all that tragic naivety in him really thinking people loved him was just too good to be true. I'm thrilled on what the fuck will happen next episode, will butcher force hughie to take the real compound v so they don't die? What will happen to Black Noir? Also, where the fuck is Cindy.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one wondering about Cindy. Show runners said in an interview that they specifically planted that plot seed for her to come back later in the show. She’ll be back for sure, just maybe not before the end of this season.

theory: huey and butcher use the compound v starlight stole to save their lives. we know compound V reacts consistently to DNA thanks to kimyko. so huey and butcher will retain their powers
I think something else to point out is that the animal representing Black Nori is a black sheep, idk what relevance that has but it can mean something as a black sheep usually means an individual estranged from the rest of the herd
Now it's Soldier Boy and Homelander vs The Boys also including Starlight, Kimiko, Maeve (if she'd be able to escape) and maybe Black Noir too as he also want the piece of Soldier Boy. But will he go against Homelander that's the million dollar question. OMG! Another amazing episode can't wait to the finale 🤩🤩
Looking back on this season and the latest reveal between SB and homelander, I have a weird feeling that it may be revealed that in the same way homelander is an improved version of SB, Ryan is a more refined homelander, but with an additional power over his father due to his link to SB. It’d be really interesting if we found out down the line that the reason he was able to harm stormfront was due to his ability to neutralize compound V like his grandfather. Except ryan didn’t need extra experiments to unlock it like SB. I think it’d be an interesting direction for the kid who hates his powers to be able to take them. And further more I think it’d be a really fun way of still having that comic finale with ryan replacing butcher in the hunt. Just a theory though 🤷🏽♂️
Something interesting to note: Now that Homelander and Soldier Boy have teamed up (it is heavily implied). SB knows that Butcher doesn’t actually have any permanent powers of his own. Homelander believes that Butcher has permanent powers. Revealing this to Homelander will make him more confident in himself and would lead to a more blood-lusted Homelander, now that he knows Billy’s weakness.
If Hughie learns of the damage temp-V is causing him maybe they will go after permanent compound V . If it's a refined version of the untested tempV it sure seems like butcher and Hughie would try to get some. I can't see butcher not taking something that gives them powers especially when they know their is version of compound V that would make their powers permanent.
@@brittscott4673 I can definitely see them taking compound V for the very sake of survival . Assuming that temp V has caused irreparable Brain damage butcher and hughie have no choice now . It’s known that supes by default have super human durability
As some others have pointed out, there was left over compound V when frenchie injects kimiko with it. Maybe she grabbed more then just the required amount and maybe hughie and or butcher use it to fight homelander 🤔
I have a feeling V 24 is going to keep them alive when they transition to permanent V. Kind of like taking a little bit of poison before you get poisoned.
loved Noir since season one. i was heart broke last week when i thought a-train died since he had been yet to redeem himself. thank god this isn't the case. i do love this season. i enjoyed season 1 and 2, but this one i am absolutely hooked on. side note i'm learning so much about comics from your videos, so thanks so much for that :)
The boys is what Marvel should have been. Good story, character development and art. It keeps you invested from start to finish. Not using special effects but actual story telling, which is why so many people love it.
I haven't seen anyone catch that the REO Speedwagon song, "I Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore", is the same song that Dean gets stuck on after falling for Jo. So watching Jensen listen to it while going to town on his soldier boy was a pretty funny Easter egg for Supernatural fans.
I’m holding out hope that the boys will come together and take permanent V after seeing homelander and soldier boy team up together, realizing that there is no way in hell they can stand against the two without being fully and constantly powered up. I also think it would be amazing if black noir joined the boys and I can see it happening after this!
I think MM is to the point where he would take Compound V especially after what happened with Todd and how Kimiko might explain to MM why she took it again. He also is going to be a beast if he does. They have talked up his strength: him talking about punching out his CO before he was with the boys and seeing him punch out Todd cold with one swing
It may not have been as utterly incredible as Herogasm, but ep8 was still great. That last scene of Soldier Boy telling Homelander he's his son is such a great reversal of the latter saying that to his son at the end of season 1 and had me screaming.

I knew Kimiko was gonna get back on V & A Train was gonna get a heart transplant. Soldier Boy being Homelanders father is absolutely CRAZY. Man I can not WAIT for episode 8 🔥
A-train being forced to get Blue-Hawks heart is just the fucked up punishment he deserves. Ngl when Hugie punches atrain it shows he never wanted justice or an apology but revenge
Hot Take I think the design of Soldier Boys costume is the best Captain America outfit designed, I much prefer the dark military greens and gold over the red and blue. Not only does it look more military, but it also just looks way more badass.
Is it paranoia though? His paranoia ends up being right on more than one occasion as they are tracking through the woods. It almost seemed like Hughie and Butcher were playing Soldier Boy off as being paranoid but really he just has superior expertise in how to deal with mindstorm.
1) Hughie and Butcher will take Compound V to save their lives. Starlight either has some left over from Kimiko or swiped more after reading the notes. Butcher's character arc isn't complete just yet. He will need to survive the season. 2) Black Noir is still tied to Stan Edgar in some way. They may or may not be related, but either way, Edgar is pulling the strings. 3) A-Train will continue his redemptive arc. He will either team up with The Boys or simply helps at an opportune moment. 4) Ryan will not be involved in the final conflict. The show needs to leave a thread for a subsequent season. At some point, Ryan will need to kill Homelander and/or Butcher. 5) The father/son alliance with Homelander and Soldier Boy will not last. Homelander's weakness is his humanity. He's still very vulnerable in that way, and Soldier Boy will push him too far. 6) Homelander will survive season 3. He's just too interesting of a character, and there's still more that can be explored with him in another season. 7) There's not much left for the show to do with Maeve. She will likely die in heroic fashion but could possibly lose her powers and leave the show. Either option will allow the writers to complete her character arc. 8) Frenchie will die. Kimiko doesn't get to have a happy ending. She's just that type of character. This season spent a lot of time building on Frenchie's relationship with Kimiko to make his death more emotional to the viewer and more impactful to Kimiko's character arc. 9) Obviously, Little Nina has to die. If she doesn't go out the same way that she did in the comics, it'll be some other over-the-top type of death. It's possible that Kimiko is the one to kill her. 10) Soldier Boy will not survive the season. It will have something to do with the discovery of the nerve agent used by the Russians, the procurement of which could set off the sequence of events that results in the deaths of both Frenchie and Little Nina.
Honestly, when they flashed the suicide warning at the start of the episode, I assumed it was going to be Maeve. Wouldn’t surprise me if she goes that way next episode
Man... I just want Frenchie to atleast survive this season even if he dies next, it's just too emotional seeing kimiko moping around mourning her brother's death. There's a huge probability of frenchie or m.m dying, but I'll willingly trade maeve or starlight just for frenchie and m.m lives lol.
I know its just a show but the way they tie events into reality is so unnerving to me that it sometimes gets under my skin and it scares the crap out of me. Homelander and Soldier Boy especially. It terrifies me that although this is only a show, that people with power are almost like supes as they can get away with anything. I hope that they get whats coming to them but as the show is tied so much into reality, this isn't going to have a happy ending. The bad guys will win and the good guys either turn bad or are taken out. Scary stuff. Thanks for your super breakdowns, bad pun intended.

I don't think they'll go that route. Remember in Season 2 Stormfront had a daughter who wasn't a supe and died in her old age. Having Homelander her son would be overdone.
Every single time I think they’ve made a great episode, the next episode goes up like 3 levels. The Black Noir plot point? Annie leaving Vought safely? Maeve being alive?
I’m curious if Starlight will force/convince Hughie to take the more refined version of compound V so that it can heal him (possibly Butcher too, however I know she doesn’t care as much for him). Either way, in the end that would be crazy because they both permanently become what they set out to kill. As for Butcher though, I feel he’s going to eventually die - compound V or not.
In general i love how the show parted from the comics, it makes room for much more improvement and references, and also makes the story unpredictable. Also as it goes on, it’s clear how the characters in the show are much more humans than in the comics. I also think homelander and soldier boy joining forces could be the final push before he completely snaps, because having someone else as strong as him (and taken that it’s his father) could mean he would not feel the need to be loved by everybody anymore, which is the only thing preventing the disaster rn
Its still possible that SB blasts Homelander because he has a hard time controlling his blast power. I could see him blasting him accidentally just because he spontaneously does it.
Surely Edgar has a part in Soldier Boys new abilities he’s probably got speakers ready to blast Russian folk music the second Homelander is in the firing zone😂😂

Karl Urban is killing his performance this season! Most ppl (rightly) appreciate Antony Starr's performance, but Urban deserves more recognition. The way he brings out the dark side of Butcher is amazing.

I'm not really a romance movie guy but I watch Frenchie and Kimikos scenes over and over. The lack of verbal dialogue in the scene really emphasises how much they understand eachothers feelings, its beautiful
i to are not a romance type person and for me the Frenchie and Kimiko scenes grind every episode to a halt.

Finally they're giving Black Noir his backstory and It is interesting as the comics, Its awesome that they planned the whole story from the start and not make one as the season goes along.
I mean yeah, it's TV show. They write the story, make the season, and just release chunks every week. The only issue is that there ARE inconsistencies that make it feel like they write per episode. Noir's injuries are completely different than what we're shown across the season. When he's force fed the almond joy, you can see the entirety of his lower face is burned. Then when we see him get the actual injury, we see only one side burnt, and his skull almost completely intact. Then with the cartoon representation, his skull appears to get mutilated, and part of his brain thrown out on the ground.

I agree on that, they've used it in the comics, and I also think Hughie is gonna teleport into someone which might kill him and possibly seriously injure or kill homelander/noir/SB. Depending on how this next episode goes we might see a team up between noir and homelander to take down SB, they both play second fiddle to him in the history of Vought. We also haven't seen Ryan use his powers yet, but if we extrapolate from Homelander being stronger than SB by being raised with powers, then Ryan may be stronger than homelander or will be one day. I love everything Jensen Ackles is doing as Soilder Boy. He basically is your Grumpy Grandpa’s version of a ‘real man’ but has mostly been a posterboy symbol of what that looked like in his era and his legend is more fiction then fact, despite all his powers. It’ll be interesting to see where things go now that he’s discovered Homelander is his son.
But Jensen Ackles really rocks. Underrated actor, so much more then the Supernatural guy.
Really, i thought he was underused here, he does the most he can with the material, but the material given to him is still not good enough to make him really shine.

This was one of the most well made episodes of the series. The filmography was on point, there are some really beautiful shots in this episode, the plot was great, the cartoon part was so creative and the plot twist was unexpected. 10/10 for me.

I forgot how I was like: "What the eff did The Boys get me into?" when the cartoons interacted with Black Noir like Roger Rabbit 😳 But the depiction was a brilliant way to tell a brutal story and how we all cope with rough parts of Life in our own minds.
Some people called this episode a filler. For me, it was pretty good. I was expecting a meltdown from Homelander though, he is pretty close to the edge...

That A train reveal was crazy! The black noir backstory was crazy! Butcher displaying emotion after realizing what he's doing to people on his vendetta against supes. This episode was better than herogasm to me. The writing was perfect. Herogasm was great but felt rushed.

They started those flasbacks by implying he did not fully remember everything that happened possibly some repressed memories in addition to the trauma. So he likely doesnt remember what the younger version actually sounded like.
That moment where homelander says “starlight you aren’t supposed to be recording when we’re going over lines” was amazing. Starlight had just moved her camera so no one could see the furious look on homelanders face as he tried to sound as happy and normal as he could to starlights 19 million followers. A+ acting.
Theory Time, Theory Time, Theory Time.... Edgar mentioned "He can fly" in this weeks episode when referring to Homelander as a boy in the conversation with Noir. You could see this as a throwaway or a clue, Jensen said in an interview that there was some pretty messed up stuff in this season that he outright wasn't comfortable with, in Herogasm he mentioned that Liberty (Stormfront) and himself created Herogasm many years ago, again could just be a throwaway but I think that Stormfront & Soldier Boy's DNA ended up creating Homelander with neither of their consent and Homelander went on to be in a relationship with her unknowingly or maybe she did know as she was weird which is all types of messed up.
But Stormfront's flying looked like it was tied to her electricity abilities though, maybe by ionising the air around her. Homelander's flying ability seems inherently different, also he has laser beams!

So not too much of a stretch if you look at it from there, also without knowing how Compound V works exactly, and considering Homelander was the first successful birth of a supe that didn't require V we can assume like other genetics that there are recessive powers that the parents don't display and dominant powers that do display and Homelander simply could've just obtained powers that where part of the recessive group of either of his parents. Either way I'm not married to the theory just think it would be a cool dark twist

Big props to The Boys’ showrunners on this exposition drop. To explore Black Noir’s character, history, trauma and motivation through the use of an animated acid trip is genius. Highlighting the child/drone demeanor and quiet emotional beats (crying on compound V news, comforting child in S2 opener), I’m super curious how it’s going to play out in the climax conflict…
Starlight getting the real stuff seemed quite convenient whereas Maeve got the temp V. Perhaps Maeve had a enough foresight to realise making Butcher a permanent supe would be a very BAD idea.
Permanent V is riskier for adults, most cases ends up the subject blowing themselves up or turning into a puddle of guts, and even if it was 100% chance of benefits at any age (like the comics), Butcher would probably never take it willy nilly

He likes the power and way more important now he has a chance without it hes no match for powerful supes but with V wich give him temporary more power hes more powerful than the most full time supes. And now if Soldier Boy gonna betray them hes got no other choice. Even if they come all back together they arnt powerful enough. Kimiko and Anni are a joke against them even if Maeve, A Train and Noir join the boys arnt they powerful enough. And not to forget if soldier boy only 1 time uses his chest burst super power he could make them all normal humans. Maybe there comes a new variant of V wich will give them powers. Now where the executives in Vought see how Homelander is getting out of hand they try to kill him and the boys are the only ones wich could defeat him. Maybe Stan Edgar makes a return with something in his back hand. I hope so because in my opinion the Boys will pay a huge price in this war.
Hmm. I can't pin down the episode but after the stormfront secret adult V testing site confrontation I think there was a reference to it being perfected.
Annie is gonna end up giving Hughie the blue V to save him from the lesions. She hands a bottle of it to Kimeko as soon as she says she’s gonna save him.
There's so much permanent V leftover after Kimiko's dose and it's in the foreground of the shot in the scene. I think it's hinting that Annie took more than just the one vial and maybe the other doses are for Billy and Hughie during the the big showdown with Soldier Boy and Homelander. She knows they've both taken it multiple times, but will need to be supes if they're to survive a battle with Homelander. Also we should have seen the team up with Solider Boy and Homie coming all along as it's what Annie has been broadcasting to her followers since the massacre at Herogasm. Setting the stage that they're both as bad as each other. Like father, like son.
I think it could be to help them both fight homelander as well as fight the shit in their brain from the “temp V”. But other than that you raise some great possibilities and overall great comment! :D
Do you really think Butcher and Hughie would take permanent V? And would Annie really give it to them? They all hate the idea of supes existing which is why the temporary stuff was ok to them. And if they do become permanent supes, it would make Homelander seem much less threatening since he’s pretty much on par with Homelander with V24 in his system.

I can see soldier boy and homelanders relationship being like billy and his dads. Soldier boy might encourage homelander to be more of “a swimmer” and make him even less humane if thats even possible. You can already see huge similarities between billys dad and soldier boy, especially in this episode and how soldier boy was trying to teach hughie to be all about the mission and forget about his loved ones.
This was probably one of the best filmed episodes. Seeing butchers backstory and how he slowly became his own father shown by the camera angles of him beating down gunpowder and others the same way his own father beat him. Then the same angle is shown AGAIN with soldier boy attacking mindstorm, cementing that he’s become the thing he hates (a monster supe) by using temp V.
Black Noir has quickly turned into one of my favorite characters. While at first I thought he would almost just be mercenary for The Seven, with the flashbacks and cartoon animations, he’s been given a lot of depth and is now very easy to empathize with.
I really like the twist about Soldier Boy being Homelanders Dad. There is a few different directions it could go but the thought of both of those maniacs running around together is scary.

Fantastic breakdown as usual. I'm very curious to see where A-Train's loyalty lies now. This whole season has been him post-V addiction and finally reflecting on how his previous selfish and ill-thought out actions have impacted others and himself. He's the reason Nathan is paralyzed and the reason he's been transplanted with that racist POS's heart. Definitely one of the more satisfying character arcs in the series as the very first season he's making callous jokes about killing Robin and seems to have ZERO empathy for anyone. This storyline snuck up on me in the best way possible.
I agree, when I saw he'd survived I thought it was a bit of a cop out, but with the heart transplant reveal I was back on board
just my theory...i think his redemption arc will ultimately lead to his death at the hands of homelander or someone else in season 4. he'll just be one of the many main characters to start dying as they work towards the final fight between butcher/the boys vs homelander.
He doesn't have empathy, but sympathy has taught him some humanity. He isn't exactly redeemable but he can still dos ome good.

The Story doesn't want to kill Hughie, just yet, I think Temp V will put him in the hospital though.
Kimiko is trying to re-start her powers with Real V. Starlight, to save Hughie from dying from Temp V will stick him with a dose of their stolen Real V.
Given how The Boys are... plotting against Butcher; if he gets the same salvation, then it would have to come from someone outside The Boys. I'd suspect Grace Mallory could step in to Real V butcher, unless she's killed when Homelander liberates Ryan.
If grace dies or is not going to give Butcher a dose, then only Hughie will take the V. When Kimiko gets the injection we can see that there is only one dose left, and I really think that was on purpose.
Kudos to writers 👏👏 The way they handle Black Noir is just excellent. Now I'm getting the feeling that Black Noir would join The Boys and will go against Soldier Boy. I can't even imagine what gonna happen next. But we're gonna see a huge battle in the finale that's for sure.
The only one who will join the Boys is Turbo Rush Noir's A Train because he's got somewhat of a redemption arc, he's a casualty of society so he will get down with the boys as the sum of thing 4 1nce.

I think butcher or Hughie might end up taking Permanent Compound V in the end to save their lives. We've seen that Hughie has healing abilities on V-24 so Permeant Compound V should kick in his healing Factor and Save His Brain. As For Butcher Tho, I don't think he's gonna make it through, it really seems like they're building towards a one against all scenario where Butcher might end up dying trying to save Ryan and Hughie. The series could end in S4 with the boys now vowing to take down every bad supe they can find in honor of Butcher

The Vought American to Vought international is actually interesting. In the comics anytime a massive flop happened, like what happens with payback in Ww2, and after the events of the series, Vought just changes its business license and restructures into the exact same thing but under a new name to stop any kind of future litigation. Like what Meta just did.
It felt amazing finally being able to hate Soldier Boy, I knew all that tragic naivety in him really thinking people loved him was just too good to be true. I'm thrilled on what the fuck will happen next episode, will butcher force hughie to take the real compound v so they don't die? What will happen to Black Noir? Also, where the fuck is Cindy.
Yeah what happened to cindy after she escaped the asylum, they never addressed that and last time we saw her she has hitchhiking for a car ride

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one wondering about Cindy. Show runners said in an interview that they specifically planted that plot seed for her to come back later in the show. She’ll be back for sure, just maybe not before the end of this season.
Any reason for acting like a douche? People just hoped that the writers would make things more interesting and not making every supe evil. It sucks that they have chosen the most predictable way
theory: huey and butcher use the compound v starlight stole to save their lives. we know compound V reacts consistently to DNA thanks to kimyko. so huey and butcher will retain their powers
I think something else to point out is that the animal representing Black Nori is a black sheep, idk what relevance that has but it can mean something as a black sheep usually means an individual estranged from the rest of the herd

Now it's Soldier Boy and Homelander vs The Boys also including Starlight, Kimiko, Maeve (if she'd be able to escape) and maybe Black Noir too as he also want the piece of Soldier Boy.

Looking back on this season and the latest reveal between SB and homelander, I have a weird feeling that it may be revealed that in the same way homelander is an improved version of SB, Ryan is a more refined homelander, but with an additional power over his father due to his link to SB. It’d be really interesting if we found out down the line that the reason he was able to harm stormfront was due to his ability to neutralize compound V like his grandfather. Except ryan didn’t need extra experiments to unlock it like SB. I think it’d be an interesting direction for the kid who hates his powers to be able to take them. And further more I think it’d be a really fun way of still having that comic finale with ryan replacing butcher in the hunt. Just a theory though 🤷🏽♂️
@Truth, Ryan probably powered down Stormfront with his eye beams; meaning Soldier Boy always had that power, but the Russians unlocked it.
Something interesting to note:
Now that Homelander and Soldier Boy have teamed up (it is heavily implied). SB knows that Butcher doesn’t actually have any permanent powers of his own. Homelander believes that Butcher has permanent powers.
Revealing this to Homelander will make him more confident in himself and would lead to a more blood-lusted Homelander, now that he knows Billy’s weakness.
If Hughie learns of the damage temp-V is causing him maybe they will go after permanent compound V .
If it's a refined version of the untested tempV it sure seems like butcher and Hughie would try to get some.
I can't see butcher not taking something that gives them powers especially when they know their is version of compound V that would make their powers permanent.

As some others have pointed out, there was left over compound V when frenchie injects kimiko with it. Maybe she grabbed more then just the required amount and maybe hughie and or butcher use it to fight homelander 🤔

I have a feeling V 24 is going to keep them alive when they transition to permanent V. Kind of like taking a little bit of poison before you get poisoned.

loved Noir since season one. i was heart broke last week when i thought a-train died since he had been yet to redeem himself. thank god this isn't the case. i do love this season. i enjoyed season 1 and 2, but this one i am absolutely hooked on.

The boys is what Marvel should have been. Good story, character development and art. It keeps you invested from start to finish. Not using special effects but actual story telling, which is why so many people love it.

9.9/10 The mind games in this show are so well written it's doesn't need all the marvel bluescreen bs effects to be good.
I’m holding out hope that the boys will come together and take permanent V after seeing homelander and soldier boy team up together, realizing that there is no way in hell they can stand against the two without being fully and constantly powered up.
I also think it would be amazing if black noir joined the boys and I can see it happening after this!

I think MM is to the point where he would take Compound V especially after what happened with Todd and how Kimiko might explain to MM why she took it again. He also is going to be a beast if he does. They have talked up his strength: him talking about punching out his CO before he was with the boys and seeing him punch out Todd cold with one swing
It may not have been as utterly incredible as Herogasm, but ep8 was still great. That last scene of Soldier Boy telling Homelander he's his son is such a great reversal of the latter saying that to his son at the end of season 1 and had me screaming.

Hot Take I think the design of Soldier Boys costume is the best Captain America outfit designed, I much prefer the dark military greens and gold over the red and blue. Not only does it look more military, but it also just looks way more badass.

Is it paranoia though? His paranoia ends up being right on more than one occasion as they are tracking through the woods. It almost seemed like Hughie and Butcher were playing Soldier Boy off as being paranoid but really he just has superior expertise in how to deal with mindstorm.
I'm impressed at the level of character development they have committed to this season. The cuts showing Butcher act like his dad was fucking insane.
1) Hughie and Butcher will take Compound V to save their lives. Starlight either has some left over from Kimiko or swiped more after reading the notes. Butcher's character arc isn't complete just yet. He will need to survive the season.
2) Black Noir is still tied to Stan Edgar in some way. They may or may not be related, but either way, Edgar is pulling the strings.
3) A-Train will continue his redemptive arc. He will either team up with The Boys or simply helps at an opportune moment.
4) Ryan will not be involved in the final conflict. The show needs to leave a thread for a subsequent season. At some point, Ryan will need to kill Homelander and/or Butcher.
5) The father/son alliance with Homelander and Soldier Boy will not last. Homelander's weakness is his humanity. He's still very vulnerable in that way, and Soldier Boy will push him too far.
6) Homelander will survive season 3. He's just too interesting of a character, and there's still more that can be explored with him in another season.
7) There's not much left for the show to do with Maeve. She will likely die in heroic fashion but could possibly lose her powers and leave the show. Either option will allow the writers to complete her character arc.
8) Frenchie will die. Kimiko doesn't get to have a happy ending. She's just that type of character. This season spent a lot of time building on Frenchie's relationship with Kimiko to make his death more emotional to the viewer and more impactful to Kimiko's character arc.
9) Obviously, Little Nina has to die. If she doesn't go out the same way that she did in the comics, it'll be some other over-the-top type of death. It's possible that Kimiko is the one to kill her.
10) Soldier Boy will not survive the season. It will have something to do with the discovery of the nerve agent used by the Russians, the procurement of which could set off the sequence of events that results in the deaths of both Frenchie and Little Nina.
Honestly, when they flashed the suicide warning at the start of the episode, I assumed it was going to be Maeve. Wouldn’t surprise me if she goes that way next episode
Man... I just want Frenchie to atleast survive this season even if he dies next, it's just too emotional seeing kimiko moping around mourning her brother's death. There's a huge probability of frenchie or m.m dying, but I'll willingly trade maeve or starlight just for frenchie and m.m lives lol.

I know its just a show but the way they tie events into reality is so unnerving to me that it sometimes gets under my skin and it scares the crap out of me. Homelander and Soldier Boy especially. It terrifies me that although this is only a show, that people with power are almost like supes as they can get away with anything. I hope that they get whats coming to them but as the show is tied so much into reality, this isn't going to have a happy ending. The bad guys will win and the good guys either turn bad or are taken out. Scary stuff.

Excellent breakdown, lmao, those artful dodger accents had me rolling, just needed a blimey and a crikey. One thing I noticed was after Kimiko took the Compound V they made sure that they showed there was a significant amount still left in the bottle, someone else has to end up taking it.

I don't think they'll go that route. Remember in Season 2 Stormfront had a daughter who wasn't a supe and died in her old age. Having Homelander her son would be overdone.
Worth noting in the cartoon flashback that Noir is literally the black sheep of the group.

It sounds like Soldier Boy's powers are growing and he is able to hear people's thoughts or something for a second there.
In general i love how the show parted from the comics, it makes room for much more improvement and references, and also makes the story unpredictable. Also as it goes on, it’s clear how the characters in the show are much more humans than in the comics. I also think homelander and soldier boy joining forces could be the final push before he completely snaps, because having someone else as strong as him (and taken that it’s his father) could mean he would not feel the need to be loved by everybody anymore, which is the only thing preventing the disaster rn
I'm loving this season. Knowing what I do about the comics, I'm glad the show is doing its own thing to keep us all guessing.
