    Today many artists (including me) consider that irradiance map is obselete. Now with brute force+light cache combined with denoiser you can get better and faster results than irradiance map. Last video of Adan Martin showcase this point.

    this is 80% because of the denoiser. set a low setting and adding denoiser pass doesn't always work in all scenarios. but it's a good share

    Yes, it speeds up render time but not without a cost. The scene would look just as good but there will be more noise, less detail and lighting artifacts.

      no noise, and you shouldnt have artifacts at all. Yes, les detail.. but with a subtle AO it's done

      @@martinilopez1 depends on how strong the denoising is. But if you zoom in, there will still be noise. Although to the naked eye, it's undistinguishable

    The irradiance map has been deprecated in Vray 6 and it is slow and messed up my shadows when I tried to use it, I will try everything else, my problem is that I have animated grass in my scene that I used chaos scatter to spread on the lawn, which I think is the main reason for my slow render times.

    i wouldn't go below max subdivs 16 for final images. especially for interior images. i don't like the look of heavy denoising.
    for a final high res interior image with a resolution of 5000x5000 pixel, it's completely ok to have render times of 2 hours...doesn't matter anyways if you let it render over night.
    for previews it's ok to use lower values.

    I'm using light mix in my scene and have to choose brutal not irradiance map. my render took over 11 hours and wasn't done. (it got interrupted). when I reduce certain numbers (such as mentioned in the vid), I get noise even though I'm using vray denoiser. pls what can I do to reduce the time and still have good quality?

    hi there please let me know how did you achieve those rounded ceiling defuse lights using irradiance map. i use vray mash light but its really uneven and looks bad. but if switched to brute force its looks fine like yours but the render time and noise is unbearable. thanks.

    Are you talking only about 'groups' or including 'layers' ???
    I untied all the groups, but I still get stuck with Building light cache on interactive rendering.. ㅜ_ㅜ

    Hey, its great tut, but when i start i was fascinating difference between the render time of CPU and GPU render, but i have some issue. The renders are not same after GPU rendering main different with shadows, reflections and refractions. What Im doing wrong, its important becase i have couple of project i prepare for V-Ray CPU not specyfy for GPU, what i should to do to make same renders on GPU and CPU?

    Guys I need help....I just switch from 3ds Max 2017 & vray adv 3.6 to 3ds Max 2022 & Vray 5, update 2.1.
    I try render using vray 5.21, but the outcome is terrible!! It's the same 3ds file so I suspect problem is with the vray settings.
    What should I do? is there any way to fix it?

    Do you use "image filter" in your setting, and which one? I transfer from my setting in vray 3.5 to vray 5, vray 5 render time longer than vray 3.5 a lot (i use IR+LC), and also in vray 5 my downlight have black circle ( vray 5 remove the "clamp output" option)😆😩

    But vray and max slow and hanging what i can do to benefit with my laptop should i play with invidia control panle sitting or rendering with gpu or cpu please help

      Hi, the first thing you should do is to check where your Laptop resources go. If it's not used in any other programs, try to add 3Ds Max to your NVIDIA plan.

    U rendered at 640p that's very low.. im trying to render at 4k native 16:9 res which is 3840x2160.. also what do you think is better? Vray 5 gpu or vray 5? I heard that gpu rendering is not as accurate but way faster

      It reduces the render time anyway.
      If your Graphic Card is powerfull, it's better for fast render. It gives accurate results but with low render options.

    CLAMP OUTPUT QUESTION:
    -guys, how to unhide CLAMP OUTPUT in Vray 5 render settings (3DS Max) using a maxscript? (it's hidden by default says chaosgroup
    -for I have problem with jagged edges on bright area of an object
    (it's easily solve before by SubPixel Mapping and Clamp Output)...

      -SUBPIXEL MAPPING: check this
      -CLAMP OUPUT: check this

      @@scpk2246 I am using vray next 1.1 and max 2019. I got the option clamp output in color mapping and uncheck it. But still getting jagged edges in mesh light created on ceiling.

      it's not the best gear, but it will do the work very well.
      the render time depends on many factors.

      Change it from physical to exposure value and try.
      If it did not work, check the hdri again, then check the gamma

    It's not gonna work because in your condition the image resolution is tooo low it's not good for the final render
