Like another already said below, just when you thought you heard every song the Beach Boys did, another gem is uncovered. Brian Wilson hands down had written so damn many songs and/or reworked them it has got to be in the hundreds easily...
I too like this version better. I love Mike's downward bass vocal in the chorus, and Brian's falsetto is more appropriately placed as the backup rather than the lead.
This one is a bit better then the original version, it's just missing Brian's falsetto part "you gotta be a little nuts" but besides that my favorite part is the "don't back down don't back down !"
music is a universal form of art that has no age limit, as long as your enjoying it then more power to ya. i hate it when ppl allways say "im 13 and i like this" or "im 10 and i love this" it dont matter as long as your enjoying what your listening too.
I like both versions, but the "official" version seems a little better produced but I bet they did this version in a very short period of time because of the touring. Actually when you think how quickly Brian Wilson was writing and producing these wonderful records AND constantly improving them, both versions are incredible performances.
Anyone know who the girls are/ were on the ASL album?? I heard they were just hanging out on the beach when Brian and the boys arrived with the photographer and were asked if they wanted to be on the album cover. I particularly like the blonde at :05 left in the video with the kerchief on her head. There is a better of of her on the album. Very sweet pic at the very end with a nice looking girl being held by her Dad.... ..... oh. ....oops, lol... that's Mike.
This song is missing the best part of the song, which is the chorus where Brian Wilson's gorgeous falsetto soars above the band "you gotta be a little nuts" (or whatever the lyric is). Other than that, this version is better than the original in every way. I like that quick little "do do do do" descending vocal that comes outta no where. Nifty!
Comments are insane. The verse melody is deeply inferior to what he later came up with. And missing the lead on the chorus of course. The backing vocals even veer into Four Seasons territory, which would be a compliment to most but isn't to the Beach Boys
what draws you to music should not have anything to do with who or what age group likes it. these are all superficial, external qualities, none of which have any relation to the quality of the music itself. the fact that you bring something like that up indicates more than anything else that you probably have an insincere fondness of the beach boys, born out of the desire to be different, or appear older or more cultured. if not, that's great too, but let's keep it about the music, agreed?

Man this backing track is awesome~!
i LOVE this version, especially those vocals during the “don’t back down” refrain

The All Summer Long LP was always one of my Favorites.
Nice early doowop surfing song with Brian's cool harmonies already creeping into the mix
Brian’s vocals are so impossibly endearing in this it makes my heart soaaaaaaar

Man. Every other week I stumble across a different version of another great Beach Boys song. This must be the last one!
+Juhsayngul I like this version over the released version...
Great pictures
this take makes it into my fav beach boys tracks, the backing vocals are striking
Loved this version! Denny's parts were not covered up, and he did a great job!
I like this version, it seems more "summery." But I prefer the one they released. The backing vocals are haunting.
I LOVE THIS VERSION OMG
This version is better than the other one
When I downloaded the twofer off itunes (All Summer Long + ?) this came along with it. Brian Wilson took the group to awesome heights, didn't he?
❤️
I think I can hear more of Denny in this one!
Im tempted to say i prefer this one

Should've been the released version - typically, a better early take than the release version - happened a few times !
I can't tell. Are they burying Brian in the sand?
cute and neat!
Is this version available on itunes?
Doesn't sound like the same song; Growing up with that album and song, I think I an able to say I greatly prefer the original. Greatly....
I give this a 8
I've always liked this version better.

Lyrics are much better, though
good lyrics
agreed
backing vocals royales , rythmiques nerveusement rock .Attention les B.B sont là et ils ont les crocs.
whats your age have to do with anything?
This version is BETTER than the one they released. Brian should have picked this one!
