I love how Evan (Brennan's character) just verbally bulldozes through any chance for a reply. Like the NPC keeps trying to throw in a funny quip to break the tension and it's just *not* happening this time.
Evan: *Your* life is on the line here man, I don't have time for funny
Just here to comment that I miss Marathon and I hope the new game isn’t trash but New Bungie ain’t making miracles no more.
@@thunderofgr I haven't played Marathon, but I've seen a bit of gameplay and heard a bit of news. I'll be honest, Chief. It's looking pretty grim.
BLeeM basically looked at the rules and figured out you could munchkin a really broken single stat, then proceeded to make that character and max out Fight, knowing that in a "Real World Wizard School" campaign, being the best at spell murder is not a good and useful skill to have...
@@mxspokeseven better when the system they were using did not have a pulled punches mechanic so if he rolled to high he just kills someone.
“If you don’t concede, what do you want me to tell your family” is such a raw fucking line

How to be hot while playing d&d
@@therockbottom5256 ^ Out of pocket. Yellow card.
I felt threatened by it
And then he had the rolls to back the smack talk, god so good
His take-half for Fight is 18. There was no version of that fight where Evan lost lol.
His opponent rolled a 20 and he still had to make a separate roll to try and not kill the guy straight away. The whole team just gave up and went home.
Kelmp is a perfect example of a role play driven munchkin. Dude has ridiculous fight stats- but because of kids on brooms’ system that means you literally can’t hold back. Really fits the unwilling dark lord vibe so well.

I really just want a compilation of Lou being hyped about what Brennan is doing.
Lou, like Travis, are always hyped and hyping for their friends. I love it.
@@druid_zephyrus You totally right, they are the equivalent players. Lou is the jock of D20 and he is the absolute hype-man of his crew, and Travis is a jock and the absolute hype-man of his crew.
Don't know how I didn't see that connection sooner
Brennan: saying some dope shit
Lou: 🤩👏👏
Lou is such a joy. I love how invested he gets in the story.
He's the best hype man! Just raw bouncy energy.
"The next two minutes are going to be very important for you." Best line in D20 history.
I loved so much how he shortened the time with every statement and turned it into a countdown
Aside from "what do you want me to tell your family"
I think his "you must be beneath someone for them to extend a hand down and I'm beneath NO ONE!" Line was pretty f#ckin raw

I feel like only The Brennan Lee Mulligan could pull that off, I believe him
I agree but i can also picture Matt could pull something similar
@@ericbaker1294 you're absolutely correct
@@ericbaker1294 Brennan's the type of guy to deliver something swiftly and hard, one punch and you're out type of situation. Matt's version would be to deeply mindfuck you and make you question your existence, and why were you doing this in the first place
@Kei you are right but which one do you want to experience though????
@@ericbaker1294 preferably neither lol, but I think I'd prefer Brennan's. It's the lesser evil imo. Like I said, Brennan's is a one-time thing. You get punched, it'll hurt like a motherfucker, and you'll think of ways to not have that encounter ever again. Matt's version will hurt you just a little bit in the moment, but will scar you for life
This will remain my favorite scene. No bravado no shit talk just cold hard fact of “the decision is yours. Life or death?”
That's what makes this so terrifying imo. Like you said, there's no bravado here, this man is just stating facts that are going to happen.

@@williampadgett9423, Misfits & Magic!
Normally we would make an intimidation roll here, but I don't think that's necessary.
She does have him essentially make an intimidation roll, but also decides the difficulty is really low because what he just said was fucking terrifying, lol.
@@TheManKnownAsAi that's how it's gotta be done, reminds me of a rogue on one campaign of mine, he killed a citizen on full public view while visiting the city that was about to go to war with his city and he was there to secure the messager of the king he killed the guy, and when the guard started to demand his surrender he tried to persuade them by saying "hey guys, lets talk about this, it doesn't need to be this way, let's talk about it" And then went on to get pissed that his high roll (18) didn't saved him from that
@@TheManKnownAsAi Even though he succeeded, she still made him fight, and then the fact that you can't pull punches in Kids on Brooms was an issue. Luckily, just enough restraint was allowed that the fact that the kid didn't answer Evan's question wasn't an issue
He had to make a Grit roll, but the DC was like 7, because "That's terrifying"
I mean I'm pretty sure he successfully passed an intimidation roll against Aabria
Brennan just rolled a Nat 20 intimidation roll without even touching the dice. insane.
The rule is: "If you can intimidate me, you succeed. If you make me genuinely scared, that's a nat 20,"
So natural he didn't even need to roll, just a natural 20/10, would Brennan Lee Mull-again
I’ve never watched any d20 shows, but this just screams “I’m not threatening, I’m stating fact.”
And he in fact was
That's really that character as a whole in a nutshell
This character is essentially Tom Riddle if he didn't want anything to do with magic lol
"Threats is the wrong word … But English is a limited language in some ways. There's really no word to articulate what I mean. A threat with a measure of inevitability to it. A promise? Too feeble. People break promises too often. A curse? A malediction? Too... magical. An oath? The connotations are wrong. When I say I'll do something, I make it happen." ~ Alexandria
If you want to start watching, this clip comes from the latest season “Misfits and Magic”, which is the best starting point to the series imo. It’s relatively short at only four episodes, it’s a completely self-contained story, and it’s so well-executed. Everyone playing is a storyteller, and they’re really great to watch
The moment he said “oh good, you speak English” I knew for a fact this French boy was COOOOKED
He gave the guy so many off-ramps, and he didn't take any of them.
The dude (Evan's opponent) will never cast any magic again.

Evan is the reason this is STILL my favorite dropout series.
Everyone has already talked about Brennan so I’ll just add that Aabria’s understated mumbling reallllly adds to this scene, I found it hilarious 🤣❤️
Just a reminder that Evan Kelmp rolls a D20+8 for fighting.
And then an extra d4 or d6 depending on if he's using magic or common sense
To clarify for people, this is using the Kids on Brooms system where your stats aren’t just modifiers, but also a die size.
A d20+8 puts Evan at the peak of fighting. Like John Wick.
@@eddiemate thank you for clarifying and oh my god
This was a conscious decision on BLeeM's part; this is a character that gets the various Voldemort, Darth Vader, etc. triggers and chooses to be a good guy. He's a scary person whose big skill is hurting others but that isn't who he wants to be and that skillset is truly awful in a modern setting.
I love how Aabria needed like a full minute to recover after that line
I feel weird saying this but Brennan looks buff as hell these days.

This is how I think my players THINK they sound when they try and intimidate the NPC's. Actually had one try and threaten a full on immortal, body-changing wizard in Call of Cthulhu, when the wizard knew the meal the players was eating was drugged. Didn't go nearly so well as this.
Call of Cthulhu is fantastic because the threat level is so _hilariously_ over the top

That such a cold ass line. I love it
"What do you want me to tell your family"
That line holds the power it does because unlike everything that came before it, you can't see it as a mere threat. It is a practical request, a series of words you are obliged to speak, and within it is an utterance of your last words. You are forced to consider, genuinely, a version of events where you do die, and the man who kills you must give kind words from your own mouth to those you left behind.
There's no ego in it, no direct threat. You must all at once consider that you may die, that what happens next may be the end of your life, and there is no fanfare in it. It is a practical, utilitarian thing: "Give me instructions on what to do following your imminent death." It's like picking out your coffin, your death is already decided for you, what happens next is just the minutiae of the end of your life.
The animation for this scene was absolutely gorgeous. It painted the most perfect picture for everything that transpired here.
This guy is just out of this world. There is better story tellers, there is better prepared dms, but this guy is just brilliant at improv.
