Oh you're actually right. Being a 90's kid myself this song does bring that old school feel to it. Makes me kinda miss the old days of when I used to be a kid.
I just love how although everything in the song points towards the colour blue, that they chose black and white which shows the blues and severity even more
yeah... i think jorja deleted, i didnt found on her youtube channel anymore... im so devastated, was my favorite and better to understand and to feel the lyrics. also i should have downloaded the first music video :((((
This is possibly one of the most emotionally beautiful visuals I've ever seen and the black-and-white really shows how relatably true to life the just as beautifully emotional lyrics are to so many families and people in general! Whether it be what they're currently going through or will go through at some point in life and this is still by far not only Jorja's best record to date, but possibly even one of the best I ever heard!!
[Intro] I wanna turn those blue lights into strobe lights Not blue flashing lights, maybe fairy lights Those blue lights into strobe lights Maybe even fairy lights, not blue flashing lights [Verse 1] Don't you run when you hear the sirens coming When you hear the sirens coming You better not run 'cause the sirens not coming for you What have you done? You went to school that day Was a bit late but it wasn't Monday Kept after class for answering back You apologized, ain't no harm in that [Chorus] What have you done There's no need to run If you've done nothing wrong Blue lights should just pass you by Verse 2] Gun crime into your right ear Drugs and violence into your left Default white headphones flooding the auditory Subconscious waves you accept You're sitting on the 4 back home "Where you at, G? Pause the poison to answer his message Your boy sounds rushed, fears for his adolescence [Chorus] What have you done There's no need to run If you've done nothing wrong Blue lights should just pass you by [Verse 3] Tall black shadow as you're getting off the bus Shadow shows no emotion so what's even the fuss? But the face of your boy casts a darker picture Of the red handed act, he's gonna whisper; "Look blud I'm sorry 'cause I know you got my back He was running, I couldn't think, I had to get out of that" Not long ago you were miming to the "Shook Ones" Now this really is part two 'cause you're the shook one Hands you the tool as you question your friendship How's man like you gonna make me a convict? i’ve personally always thought this song narrated a story of it’s own, no preface needed. for so long, this is exactly how i pictured the story told by the song. simply put, humanity, and the struggles and reality of it. one of my all time favorites.
This is a huge issue in London, it’s scary seeing my friends who have done nothing wrong and only 14 get talked to by police just cause they fit a very vague description of a person whose done a stabbing or a drug deal.
And mostly people who resemble those hang in the same crowds or with same kind of people, been there done that, i used to think it was wrong, now i just think it is logical , they will soon know they got the wrong person and let you go if you dont make a scene.
This song is dope. It’s got that 90s vibe. It stands out from the usual songs that you hear today. It’s a classic, yet it’s new. This song sends a powerful message. Someday, we will turn those blue lights into strobe lights, so we won’t have to run when we see them.
The meaning of this song is so relevant to the past ,present and future, the message is so timeless. Your work will soon be noticed and appreciated by the world 💖💖💖💖
she's not that different. I mean, i really like her, her voice and her music, but there are plenty of young female singers and rappers that were in this type of gig way before she was, or still are. I could name plenty of amazing artists that you would find just as "different". She's just mainstreaming her way through, which is, of course, great for her.
OEN NAO I feel you, that’s what I was talking about, different in the mainstream but there are definitely a lot of more underground artists with a similar style. I should have elaborated more but I like keeping things simple lol. List some artists that you enjoy of whatever genre, I always like finding new artists/music.
No problem, I get what you mean though. Off the top of my head, i'd recommend you Kelela, NAO, Sabrina Claudio, Ravyn Lenae, Little Simz, Mahalia, Raveena, FKA Twigs, Joyce Wrice, DUVV, Tink, ELIZA, Bonzai, The Internet, Charlotte Dos Santos, Jordan Rakei, Iman Omari, Native Dancer, Thundercat and Ta-Ra.
Another ingenious Sample is the instrumentation throughout which is sampled from a song about love. Turning a romantic song into this type of song is really clever.
I love how this was filmed in my mates flat and local area Walsall (where Jorja's from) mad seeing Mike Skinner doin the dishes in my mates yard I've sat in countless times 😂
i remember hearing this song when it first came out. i was around 11 or 12 and i fell in love with the melody because i didn't yet understand the lyrics. now im 15, i hear the message and it makes the song better. thank you jorja :)
It's a sample of Dizzee Rascal's track 'Sirens' to which this is something of a homage. Also, he says 'Blud' not 'Blurt'. 'Blud' is what grime artists and estate kids often call each other in the UK, because of the heavy Caribbean and African influence on the language spoken in those environments.
Much respect little miss, I struggle finding new songs to listen to, I'm a picky person with what music I feed my brain but I praise you this piece is fucking beautiful. Keep moving.

Great use of locations in Walsall, especially apt user of the defunct Police station (no "Blue Lights" there anymore). Also credit for featuring fellow Midlanders Mike Skinner, Benjamin Zephaniah, etc. I loved the first Blue Lights video lots, but this is incredibly beautiful and touching. Well done, very well done indeed.
Wayne Fox the Young Boys in the park on the swings is Barley field park in Caldmore, at least they come back to where the story of the song was to have to taken place!
I love the scene of the boys sitting on the court steps. It’s amazing you drive past these areas every day but see them in a complete different light when they’re shown to the world
"I wanna turn those blue lights into strobe lights Not blue flashing lights, maybe fairy lights Those blue lights into strobe lights Maybe even fairy lights, not blue flashing lights" I wish i wrote that, it's a wonderful intro.
This was shown at school by the boys in the class and it made me realise that there is alot of crime in Walsall specially my part as there's been 3 murders in a week. Just makes me think i was born and still being raised there is crazy. Other than that I love the meaning to the song. Walsall is a rough area I'll admit but it's home.
Just yesterday I've discovered this young lady. MAD talented and gifted she is. This song is easily my favorite from the entire album btw. Also love the nod to Mobb Deep, and Dizzee Rascal. The Guy Bonnet sample is brilliant.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ive heard in my life

The song owns totally an 90's vibe. That's why it's so good and it gets some sadness in it.

Can we talk about the fact that the COLORS version of this has more views than the official video?
It happens on a lot of colors videos, big up for them for giving exposure to new artists! (I found her because of colors).
I also found her thanks to colors

This version is amazing but I prefer her Colors performance
Yep, the COLORS version have the better vibe and the sound is smoother. My view.
COLORS version has no sound editing and it does her voice so much JUSTICE!
the way jorja smith portray her message is so beautiful the way the beat hits and the lyrics. its such a great message for the world.

QuiiffyGaming even better. Glorious!
and jaykae!
I love the scene of the boys sitting on the court steps. It’s amazing you drive past these areas every day but see them in a complete different light when they’re shown to the world
Dapz OTM too. 😊
the lyrics, the video, her voice. All in this song is perfect.
When I listen to this song it gives me a feeling of nostalgia and sadness at the same time. But I really love, I love the instrumental
So many Brummie legends in this video. Mike Skinner, Benjamin Zephaniah, Jaykae to name just a few. Sick.
**Patiently waiting for "Don't Watch Me Cry" to be a single**
Fragile As Glass i relate to this on a spiritual level 👏🏻
Fragile As Glass me too

Fragile As Glass same
I remember hearing this on a radio debut and knew straight away she would blow. Such a good track 👌
Police lights in the U.K are only blue
And gun crime is non existent in the u.k as well
@@sofiarune3124 it's rare, but it does happen.
@@sofiarune3124 knife crime is beyond a joke here though. Literal kids dying in broad daylight.
@@sofiarune3124 you ain't been to brum then

Jorja te amo...
Her debut album gonna do numbers.
So much emotion in this song, I feel it, I love it. Art meets real life.
You were straight back in 2019 but now you're part of the lgbtq after being rejected by a guy.
@@crimatorslick5271 wow damn you clearly have no idea how being gay works
@@mymblytyler9520 damn, you just liked your own reply, darwin award nominee
I actually thought the song was a 90s track definitely has that sound
Los que venimos por Violeta 💜
One of the best beats I’ve ever heard. Them keys are magical.
Just came across Jorja Smith! SHE'S AMAZING very underated
"I wanna turn those blue lights into strobe lights
Not blue flashing lights, maybe fairy lights
Those blue lights into strobe lights
Maybe even fairy lights, not blue flashing lights"
I wish i wrote that, it's a wonderful intro.
Ellie Gregory always home, pleck here.. you know what that means lol 🤞🏻
Wait that’s in Birmingham right
ECKLIPS E just outside Birmingham minus the accent lol
BlanketsForTravel so it’s in Birmingham but not technically
come to mexico andd know real crime
Global solidarity with our brothers and sisters against the police brutality everywhere.Jorja you nailed it,much love from greece!
I just love the subtle mono sound switch up when she said, "gun crime in your right ear, drugs and violence in your left." 1:25
this is one of the videoclips that matches perfectly with the song. so sensitive, so precise, such a wonderful work. LY Jorja
Old school R&B vibes are back 😍
The type of song to listen when it’s night and raining with neon street lights.😏
Merci Guy pour ton sample ici porté à l'international. Avignon et la Provence te seront à jamais reconnaissants. Rip. Guy Bonnet.❤
Mille mercis pour cet hommage tellement mérité !
"You got blood on your hands but you don't know where its from" - this line is so good

Just yesterday I've discovered this young lady. MAD talented and gifted she is. This song is easily my favorite from the entire album btw.
Also love the nod to Mobb Deep, and Dizzee Rascal. The Guy Bonnet sample is brilliant.
I'm so mad I'm just hearing this in 2020.
