Any SDHC card should work when formatted FAT32, just not with the NOTEPAD demo app, which is broken as far as I can tell. M5 Launcher is a good firmware for playing around with the CardPuter.
this is IMMEDIATELY giving me ideas. I have a lot of stuff I want to do with the solar-electric boat I built w/r/t digital throttle control, autopilot, etc. and this whole ecosystem is very interesting for that.
Cool little device! I have been playing around with the ESP32-C3 chip recently, they are quite versatile. I wonder how easy it is to develop your own applications (the REPL seems to be Python, perhaps they're using CircuitPython?)
Other than the Demo App, what _programs_ run on this "computer"? To me it's more like a micro controller than a "real" tiny computer. I wouldn't know what to use it for and I don't know where to find actual programs that are made by the community...
There's a software repo within m5 stack burner. People have actually come up with several ways to make this thing useful but most software is geared towars hacking / penetration testing.
i was really looking forward to playing with this. apparently i easily bricked it in less than an hour. all i was doing was trying to flash firmware. now all ot does is constantly try to connect to usb.
@@joharakiri actually it was some sort of bad firmware or firmware update. i have a buddy that fixed it. i think it was some sort of thing that messed up the usb port. he apparently was able to get it working again. i still have to get it back, but he sez he put pong on it and its working.
@@TheBoatPirate I see, that explains it. Consider checking out a tutorial for the m5stack launcher. It's actually very straightforward to install and use various apps. Once the launcher is set up you can even install software over the air (so like from an app store) without needing to connect it to a PC.
Nice and cheap device. The physical quality of the device is great and pretty sturdy. However I don't think the firmware available on the device is anything special. You have to use m5stack burner to upload the firmware, a lot of them made and imported by the community, which is nice. But for 30 dollars, it's really hard to complain, overall I think it's a nice device to tinker with
You also want the launcher so you can use the software repository to install apps over wifi as well as store multiple apps on the same sd card. Makes a world of a difference.
I want somone to design a firmware off the game scum with pictures of it would look good on there's and fork like spam ble and wifi pwning and all the lil tools mp3 player and photos put all the good stuff in one firmware that works good on this device
Great device. I like your pleasant attitude and review style. Beautiful scenery too.
I’ve had success with Sandisk 16gb and 32gb sd cards formatted with Fat32. Hopefully this helps someone.
I think all you need to do is format it, but I wouldn't know

Install BruceOS you can do a lot more.
I bought a pile of stuff from M5Stack. I'm mostly on RPI Pico/MMBasic, but the modules hook up fine.

I've just ordered one. Did you ever get the SD cards working with the text editor? I assume you can't save any text docs typed on it without one?

Hardware malfunction maybe. This isn't really a device you can "brick" rather than break.

Try partitioning the card for Linux ex. Ext4 since it is an arm chip. Not sure, just a thought
I though you were MrGunsnGear for a second
