may be I misunderstood, but if you are the product manager for the type folio, here are some functions I miss: 1.) being able to scroll/page down/up the pdfs by using the arrows of the type folio 2.) Being able to put text into pdfs 2.1.) the software could recognise if an area I tap in a pdf is a box, and being able to put text into a box while there is space inside the box by using the given font size. 3.) more default font size choice

Wonderful review. As with the tablet, the keyboard looks beautifully designed and manufactured. The cost to me is no worse than anything else. We are being forced to adjust to higher prices for everything we buy and do. So, the question is do you need this device for typing? Each of us has to answer that question for ourself. While I wait for RM to work out their availability issues I have think about that. It certainly expands the uses for the RM2. Right now I use it to make some notes as I would with pad and pen and then store and organize the ones I need to keep. I suppose if you plan to use the device for serious writing then a keyboard makes good sense. Of course, loving tech gadgets as I do, I will probably find a way to rationalize buying one. It is an attractive product.

I spoke to soon with my comment! 😂 I'm glad you mentioned what we pay in Canada! If I go to the US site and fill my cart with the RM2, marker plus and new keyboard type Folio, it comes out to $627USD or $861CAD. If I put the same stuff in my cart on the Canadian site it comes out to $1057CAD!! OR $769USD. Why the massive increase!? If I bought a Note Air 2 from Boox's website for $627USD, then I pay the straight conversion rate of $861CAD; this is true on virtually every site I've purchased items from EXCEPT for ReMarkable which likes to create random prices for different regions of the world; its really bizarre

Many thanks Voja for this excellent review (as usual). I'm a big fan !
I ordered mine the very day it was released and got it faster than expected. Lucky me 🙂
A few things I have noticed when trying out this lovable keyboard:
For some reason, they chose to have some key labels in a (not so) light grey color that is hard to see under dimly lit conditions. Maybe not the brightest move...
A few shorcuts and key functions are not documented beside the extended selection capabilities you demonstrate in your review and here are the ones I've found so far:
    1. Shift Backspace acts as Suppr
    2. Ctrl Backspace deletes the characters before the cursor position till the beginning of the word.
    3. Ctrl Shift Backspace suppresses characters from the cursor position till the end of the word.
    4. The Tab key affects the bullet lines only (adds one level of indentation and changes the bullet type); It has no effect on normal text, titles and subtitles; I'm missing the usual "Tab" function that is used to align text over several lines allowing to make a nice table; This kind of behavior could be easily implemented using a dedicated "Table" style.
    5. Shift Tab key combination unindents the bullet lines, changing them into text lines when reaching the lowest level of indentation (?!); This is kind of inconsistent with the way Tab is working in the other direction (and is a bit distracting ;-).
Feel free to add the ones I may have missed in your replies.
Another strange thing is that the Caps Lock key does not work for non character keys like it does on all the keyboards I know and use ?!
I don't know if this is specific to the French keyboard or not but this is annoying for us french users as typing numbers requires the Shift key to be pressed and I often use the Caps Lock when I have to type several numbers in a row.
Anyway, I hope this will be changed in a future update to provide a seemless (and undistracting ;-) experience when moving from a standard keyboard to the type folio.
Of course I would love to have several text blocks on a single page, with the ability to select, resize and move them around the page as I please; I do hope this will come in a future release.
Numbered lists would also be nice to have, as well as the ability to control character size and line spacing. A simple, yet limited (but non distracting ;-) way to offer this could be to provide several options when selecting the "Text" tool like you have several thicknesses when selecting the "Stroke" tool.
I hope this will also come in a future release together with the ability to manipulate multiple text boxes for example.
Well, that's all for now. Please let me know what you think and keep up the excellent work. Thanks !

I'm just realizing with your introduction which mentions how this doesn't work for the ReMarkable 1; that this may finally be the first significant difference between the ReMarkable 1 and 2. As far as I know both have continued receiving the same software updates, connect, etc. and this keyboard is now finally something more "substantial" that can set apart the two generations.
I still passionately hate the price of it though...😂

Yes, I assumed that the folio should work as what originally remarkable intended in distraction free focused manner of use. One thing that make me reluctant to buy the folio is weight and its pricing. Especially pricing even though I can get 50 dollar discount, I have to pay logisitic fee around 20 dollar, so basically 30 dollar discount which make this product pricy a bit. BUT. I think I am going to buy the folio at the end.. Thank you for your review again, it will help my decision whether I should buy this one or not.

Also, since we are required to work in landscape mode, I wish they would at least show the horizontal edges of the writing area. I feel like this would make it much easier to make all of your handwritten notes to remain within the edges when switching back to portrait mode.

24:32 Agree with the orientation limitation. It would be nice to have a portrait mode. However, a reliable rotation plate would add more thickness. I think this is a hard trade off. I hope reMarkable have better software updates to make typing better.
I can understand the concept of simplicity to have a single text block in the page. However, more font sizes and smaller margins to allow more text per page will be helpful.

Thank you, as always. (MDO daily user.) I may be in the minority, but your review snapped me out of what had been my reflexive response to purchase the Type Folio. Admittedly, it looks very cool on first blush, and it's an engineering accomplishment. But...I don't want to take notes in landscape mode. And it does bother me that the screen bezel is not centered for typing. As for the added girth, the raised surface will also make the handwriting position less comfortable. While I love my Remarkable 2, there clearly is still room for improvement, and doing so will breed further acceptance of the company's FOCUS credo (without blurring the line between it's product and the laptop market).

An example of an incremental improvement on the existing notepad would be to allow typing on a notated .pdf from the desktop app. (Presently this is not possible on a .pdf from the notepad itself, and I doubt it would be with the Type Folio, either.) So, let's say, an MDO user THEN would be able to amend a "Daily Notes" from the desktop app using a standard keyboard prior to exporting, then either printing or saving the more Deep-Thought-out 😉 note.

I asked them about shapes, like rectangles etc so it would be amazing if you could like draw a table, and it would snap to a grid preview, then you could double tab inside a cell, Type in the cell, opposed to what it currently does, (starts typing at the start of the line). They replied to me saying the shapes is a highly requested feature and they are looking into it :)

The closest “competition” in the digital typewriter space is the FreeWrite, which is muuuch more expensive than a rM 2 with pen and folio, so they might take a bite from that market
Also, the rM can detect when the pen is hovering above the display(as noted with a red dot on the screenshare feature), so it seems easy enough to have the failsafes
Kinda wish holding a key will invoke a shortcut for writing, like changing the tools, or better still, holding Option to temporarily switch to Select Eraser

My biggest gripe is the choice to include the accent mark keys in the US English layout rather than the brackets where they normally are and using the option/alt key for accent marks. I use square brackets for edited quotes all the time, and I already have the muscle memory of using opt+e for an aigu, opt+u for a dieresis, etc. I would also have been willing to tolerate a slightly smaller backspace (on the US layout, definitely not on an ISO layout) to have the + in the right place.
The keyboard shortcuts, however, are the ABSOLUTE right call. Adapting to the Mac vs. PC muscle memory in software and just calling the keys one thing, rather than trying to force one or the other set of shortcuts or labeling the keys with both labels, makes absolutely perfect sense.

If Remarkable reads this … I am at a new Type Folio and it is a great product overall. And there now are additional keyboard shortcuts. But what shocked me to be honest: When reading a PDF with the Folio, the PDF turns landscape of course. So the page will not cover the height anymore and even if it would, it would be too small. BUT: There is no shortcut to SCROLL DOWN or to FLIP PAGE. (e.g., SPACE, RIGHT ARROW). This is a bit hard to swallow. It would be a nice reading experience as the screen is bright and the text large (when fitting width). If it were for the shortcuts.

Surely in 2024, when watching this video, someone has released a version of the lined paper that 'fits' the typed text in either an update to the software or via Etsy?
My idea for the awkward space to the right side off the screen, they should have fit a textured tab that flips up with shortcuts indented into the fabric like a quick reference guide built into the cover and flips up vertical covering that wasted space.
Or, better still, the keyboard should really IMO be a type writer keys as we have the paper look, and the font to suit, and there should be extra keys or shortcuts that flip up on the right side (to cover that space and these are run through the connection to the remarkable tablet through the keyboard cover.
I dont even own a remarkable yet, so what would i know?

I don't really get the different keyboard shortcuts for 'Mac' and 'PC'. Many of the Mac shortcuts don't match the real ones at all. For instance Copy is Alt+C, when in reality it is Cmd+C. They could have just used Ctrl+C too and saved themselves the alt or option key.

Thank you for this awesome review! Extremely helpful! - Just recently received my Type Folio and have been wondering why I couldn't figure out how to select and move typed text, as you can with other drawn/written objects on the page - Assumed you could do that, but this indeed verified that you cannot simply use the select tool and move typed text objects. This would be a huge improvement, if the team was willing to build that functionality - Add ability to use the select tool to select pieces of text and move, or even resize entire blocks of text. Thank you again for this help (wasn't sure if I was just doing something wrong) - Your reviews are EXTREMELY helpful!

I really appreciate the indepth review!! I just bought mine, I'll gladly wait for it, but that's just me. Just as a note, when you're going between typing and writing, maybe create different layers for both (layer 1=typed text, layer 2=hand written text). This would be a way to better select between different separate 'marks'. Also if you are using the marker for editing notes, having different layers equate to different colors for different people could help in a situation where you need to track who is suggesting different changes/ edits.
    Example:
    Layer 1. Typed text
    Layer 2. Black ink (originator)
Layer 3. Red ink (initial edit)
Layer 4. Blue ink (Boss' input)
You could do the same idea for the highlighter colors for specific topics, or study groups if used for classes.
I love that reMarkable came up with this accessory, but I also agree with your "rotation " suggestion. Maybe on the "Type Folio plus"? 😂

32:16 They have fixed this and that functionality now exists which is extremely helpful. remarkable continues to deliver as promised!
Also at 51:22 it's important to note that all the extra room on both sides of the page are for taking written notes as need, but I can see your point of where it would be useful to have that "snap to" page functionality.

Fantastic video, Voya. I love watching your reviews. For me, the keyboard doesn’t do much. If I needed typing, I cannot see a scenario where I would not just pull out the laptop. I get the benefit of the uninterrupted reMarkable environment but I use this for call and meeting notes exclusively. There’s just no need in my work flow to have it also as a digital typewriter.

Hi Voja. What a great review! I'm absolutely amazed by it. The design is utterly wonderful, I adore it. It looks as if typing works better with keyboard than without it.
I'm in state of considering it to buy, but I have to wait because the keyboard layout isn't that I need (I'm Czech). I hope they create layouts for other languages which they support. And I also want to see software development, what they will add, fix and so ever. I'm really curious about it. And maybe they drop the prize.
I don't much like working on documents on computer. It's distracting because it's very easy to slip away and also I don't need million functions. I would be very exited if the reMarkable become replacement for document creating. It needs more formating function but I think they will add it, hope so.
Additionally, only problem I have with current update is that without the keyboard I'm not able to freely select words. Only by gestures. That is something what needs to be fixed. I have to go on mobile and edit it.
