I'm building a greenhouse this year. Going to use a car port framing with no roof. Very easy to put up. 1/4 barricaded wall with flat rock slabs that absorb heat and holds it. Which are call Soapstone. The rest is going to be a Double Plastic Layer Inflation System with air blown between them. Doing it this way, because didn't want to have to get a building permit or raise my property taxes. Easy to tear back down if need to.

It's summer here, and the tomato plants out the back, once they're out of the soil, the plant looks dead, all yellowed and crunchy... But the top parts have crawled their way along the ground into some shade and are still green and fluffy, so I staked up the shadecloth, see if the base of the plant will recover with some cover from the sun

JC, awesome video. Thanks for sharing the simple life on a mountain. Interesting how your soil was not frozen solid as it historically should be this time of year. Hey, remember that winter of ice you had a few years ago? Well, this year "they" hit my region with it. I've got 2 miles of thick ice down to the main road. 4 to 7 percent grade. V-bar tire chains on all 4 are getting used to the max this year. And I don't have a truck parked at the bottom of the ice! The weather schedule says the ice will last for at least a month or more and we will get more snow on top of it. Spring thaw is going to be a complete and messy bitch for sure.
I saw the video you took down and even wrote you a concerning contribution. I agree with you on so many levels and live the same as you do on even more levels. Even in our carpentry skills. We both live out in the sticks on a mountain. Doesn't it feel like some days that the world is closing in to fast? There's been so many city folks move into my region this last year it's down right scary. To bad they didn't leave the city in the city.
From far north central WA, 3,100 ft elevation and glad to be here for many years now.
Love and strength my friend I have not met, yet, 'a' simple horseman

willow branches have rooting compounds in them. Just take a small piece of branch n crush it. Stick it in the water with whatever you want roots on. You could also crush some and let them sit in the water a few days before you use the water.

I LOVE your greenhouse and all the experiments. We are always experimenting here as well, but we don’t have a greenhouse. I love the gifts from your chipmunks. One year we had some mice stealing sunflower seeds from the birdseed bag. Throughout that winter I kept finding little sunflowers mysteriously growing in the houseplants. I was perplexed and then it donned on me as to how they got there 🙂 The mice haven’t been so successful this year 😉

Does my heart good to see the green house AND you thriving!
The back of our house was situated for a 🌱 green house and porch. Your design would work fine. I like your wood stove, plus our kitchen wood stove it just to one side of the back kitchen door. This past week I have opened the door to let out some of the heat that could be going into a green house.... You SHOULD be excited about living the simple life and your accomplishments. While your Nashua school councilors were telling you that wanting to live in the woods was going backwards.... one of my parents ( and I love my parents) was telling me that their efforts to better themselves and live in the suburbs wasn't done... so that I COULD BE A FARMER! That I was going backwards. Year was 1968. Fast forward to 2021.
Jim & I are living and working on his family farm and positively thriving! We are well, healthy and happy, with organic food on the table and plenty of dry wood for winter ❄❄❄. It is a cold rainy day here and we are toasty warm and hoping for a promising new year. Our rural neighbors are working together. We are trading goods and services. Also being there for one another in an emergency.
That said , your sanctuary is what Jim & I are striving for in our corner of the woods 🌲🌲🌲

I was thinking, maybe you could get a few grow lights hooked up to the solar power bank to extend the "daylight" exposure after the sun goes down for a few extra hours for the plants sensitive to lower temperature and less daylight. Might not be worth the trouble but it might get you by the last few months of winter in a pinch. Love the greenhouse, it looks like a wonderful place to sit and drink a morning coffee!

Side shoots will develope. Let it do the same thing again. The third ti,e just let it grow and bloom. them in the fall cut it off to the base after the blooms dry the cut, water and fertilize put in green house and start all over. You could divide it ect. I loved your story about high school. Most of government mandated "schooling" is both a waste of huge amounts of time, but are destructive indoctrination programs that have infested even all private schools and govt. regulated home schooling curricula. You have the true pioneer spirit that made America great in the past!

The pepper stalks may have been too woody to push out roots. Next time try cuts from newer growth.
