It's always an exciting day when there's a new DP upload! This is a stunning performance in its own right - vibrant, and perfect tempo and articulation. Wonderful production (video and audio) - but the star is of course the amazing work you have done with the digital voicing. You have certainly captured the essence of the "Silver Sound" of the Silbermann!! Bravo!! 😊

Thanks very much, Eunjoo! This was a kind of experiment to see how far I could stretch the voicing capabilities of the organ. I am happy that you like the result and I hope I will be able to produce even better results ;)

Love it. Heard this piece at the Crystal Cathedral it was just wonderful. I love Bach chorale preludes. The organist at Grace Cathedral in California (Christoper Keady) does improvisations on Bach chorales during the end of service there.

Thanks Phil! The audio engine of the instruments I use works with physical modeling technology and it is possible to accurately voice all the main parameters of the stops. Once you know the voicing pattern of the original instrument, you can transfer it on the digital one. It is a time consuming procedure (and involves some maths) but it’s also very interesting and exciting! 👍🏻

"Wer nur den lieben Gott läßt walten" (He who allows dear God to rule him) is a 1641 hymn with both text and melody written by Georg Neumark, who revealed that following misfortune and great poverty during a stay in Hamburg in the winter of 1641-42, his luck changed and he was thus inspired to write this hymn with words expressing optimism and trust in God. Such sentiments are not so easily translated into music, yet in 1714, Bach appears to have been thinking along those lines. Below the chorale melody, there is a continual lively anapaest with no complicated counterpoint. It is one of a small group of chorales that do not have a precise place in the ecclesiastical year and they were probably included by Bach because they were popular or often used in Weimar, where he composed the ‘Orgelbüchlein’. Your performance of the chorale prelude is simply stunning: bravo!
The organs that Gottfried Silbermann built all show a distinctive style, both in architecture and their tonal qualities. His organs are characterised by silvery flutes and the use of strong reeds in the pedal. Although Bach was not particularly well disposed to Silbermann’s use of meantone temperament, Silbermann’s instruments were constantly lauded by organists and frequent reference is made to a play on his name, as organists praised his "Silberklang" or "Silvery Sounds". Mozart was also quite clear: "These instruments are magnificent beyond measure". Silbermann’s ability to earn money with organ construction was remarkable, leading him to uncommon wealth, and his economic operation and slow consolidation of his position eventually created a near monopoly. His apprentices had to pledge never to work in Central Germany! I know you live in Switzerland, so Gottfried would not be chasing you to protest that you had stolen his 'voicing'! Many congratulations on this remarkable achievement with the voicing of your Viscount Unico P35 as you have certainly more than captured the 'sound flavour' of the Silbermann palette. If only your skill as a 'digital pipe voicer' could earn you the wealth Silbermann went on to enjoy: you've earned it!

Dear Graham, thanks for adding, as usual, such fantastic information to our videos! I did not know that organ building made Silbermann an affluent businessman! As you perfectly describe, his instruments have both that sparkling and thunderous character that I like so much and that, intuitively, I am drawn to. It has been very interesting to analyse his voicing patterns and see the importance he has given to certain areas of the keyboard and which are reflected in the final overall tonal quality of the instrument. We never stop learning! :)

Qui la ripresa audio l'hai fatta solo dai monitor riverberati? Cioè non hai messo in uscita per la registrazione i monitor secchi e riverberati, vero?
