The Wellness Industry encourages troubled people to do "busy work" rather than to confront what's causing their suffering head on, and taking actualy (usually very hard) steps toward getting better.

Social media promotes the idea that you can have the good life, age well or achieve your potential. But at the same time we need to fear everything and feel guilty for eating crisps. Not unlike the advertising of cosmetics, showing how in order to have perfect skin like this model buy our product. Or cover your blemishes that are all to apparent for all to see.
Reminds me of the bio of Janice Joplin. All the girls wanted to be her and live that celebrity experience. All she wanted was to do was meet somebody and have kids go to her prom or live a normal life. Living in the fish bowl is not much fun for the fish.
