weeelll to be a professional make up artist doesn't only mean that you're good at make up and know about some formulas.. you have to take dermatology courses, chemistry, cosmetology, physics, physiology and soooo many more... of course the fact that he has years of practice and got to make his own palette is beneficial to him as a beauty influencer but he's not a licenced make up artist

to be fair, the Edward Scissorhands scene was supposed to be awful for comedy. that foundation applicator always cracks me up! Ally Sheedy's character in the Breakfast Club starts off with a dark, grunge look which is why her natural makeup is a major change

Basically a professional makeup artist is someone who has experiences doing makeup for TV shows, films, weddings, red carpet, runways and such. They do makeup for models, celebrities and generally other people. Mario Dedivanovic (Kim Kardashian's makeup artist), or Pat Mcgrath is how you define a professional makeup artist. Beauty guru is beauty guru. They're different.
A professional makeup artist is a profession, James is a makeup artist on youtube (there is a big difference), and there's nothing wrong with that at all but its just a fact. You can't label someone a professional makeup artist if they haven't gone to school for it and gotten a degree. I feel like that's like someone saying they are a therapist when they haven't gone to school and gotten a legit degree for it.

The scene in Edward scissorhands wasn’t supposed to be a realistic or well executed makeup application, it’s kind of a nod to the Avon makeup saleswomen that were popular during those times, and kind of making a little bit of fun of the representatives that would go door to door making makeup suggestions in the 70s/80s. That’s the point of her character in that movie.

James is correct, I’m a certified makeup artist and we NEVER apply lipstick directly to a client’s lips whether it’s a cream lipstick or a liquid lipstick. The technique is to scrape some of the lipstick off using a spatula and then dip the brush into it (to avoid the brush ever coming into contact with the actual lipstick) and apply it on the client and of course, ALWAYS clean and sanitize your brushes in between clients ❤️
