A lot of people get confused which stance Hwo is in after a move, the reason is because majority of people look at Hwo's legs. Unfortunately, the brain does not compute left and right by looking at the leg stance in a 3D plane, when the camera isn't in first person. Most people get confused between left and right because of this. So here's a tip; LOOK AT HWO's right arm instead. Yes, his RIGHT ARM. If he's holding it up, it's in LFF and if the arm is down, it's RFF. This is the EXACT same visual that Hwo pros like maddogjin, Asellas, and speedkicks use to decide what stance they are in. Your brain will compute a lot faster by visually looking at an arm being up or down to know the stance.

I just look at his hands, the hand positions make the upper body silhouettes very distinct and there's no need to think about right or left at all: - both hands high = orthodox (LFF) - lead hand low = southpaw (RFF) In fact you only need to look at the lead hand. And yeah I think of the stances in boxing terms cos that's more intuitive for me. If he's on P2 side in LFF you can't see his right arm - just look at the lead hand, it's always visible.

i have 4 mains, Hwo, Steve Fox, Lars, and Miguel, i have to say, this is very great guide, and i would recommend to any Hwoarang main to watch this so they can eliminate bad habits when trying to improve, i admit some of my faults are included here, and im trying to improve still, for example, i have a bad habit of attempting a lot of lows to go into a mid-3 so i can do a back-4,
ff4 became very safe in T7. Previously the move was a free launch punish on block & left Hwo in bt but put him behind the opponent on hit. You can still do the old unsafe one ( fff4 I think) but this new version being safe & having pushback is a major buff for him
One option to deal with the rolling right kick after the peacekeeper is to simply grab him. The reason this is an effective choice in this scenario is because throws cannot be broken while doing power crush moves.

never seen a Hwoarang player who knows how to block. Just like Law players. Hwoarang's endless strings are annoying as fuck, and as soon as you think it's your turn to attack, you get launched. That down jab tip helped a lot though, i'll try it out next time. Just fought this guy and couldn't find a single frame to attack after constant low/high strings.
I don't even know what I have trouble with when it comes to Hwo, since most of his kick strings are unidentifiable, especially in the middle of a round
Finish the punishment training in practice mode. All his kicks looks similar. I did taekwondo as a kid. This helped me classify his kicks as either forward/side/roundhouse/back kicks

Law is no big deal to fight, he's not got anything really scary you have to worry about, just learn to option select low parry his junkyard string and learn to react to dragon tail. Then you just learn to sidestep in which directions during which moves.
17:50 I use Law so his d 1 left low jab is done when fully crouched and that's not the quickest way to get out because he does a 2 hit combo, it's very slow. Is d2 a good alternative? right low punch

The move i have the most problem with wasnt in this video, i dont know what its called but its his second powercrush that also combos for a shit ton of damage, i think its mid.
Maybe you already figured out, but for anyone going through the same problem nowadays, I believe the move(s) you're referring to are his Thunderbolts. In either Flamingo stance (the ones where he has one leg up), he has access to a Thunderbolt, which is a Power Crushing, tracking mid. It is -10 to -12 on block depending on distance, so it is punishable. Generally, Hwo will throw these out when he is applying pressure and wants to crush a retaliation attempt (protip, don't try to retaliate against Hwo pressure unless you are certain you saw something unsafe, just use your downjab) and win the trade. Thunderbolts will cause a standing character to spin and place them at a frame disadvantage. As a Hwo main, I can tell you that it is a common mistake for people to try and act after seeing the spin, because both characters go through an awkward animation and I guess they think that means a hole has opened in Hwo's offense. More often than not, it will get you counter-hit. My advice is to just block it and punish it, but avoid trying to contest it. If Hwo is applying pressure in Flamingo, he likely has a frame advantage by the time he starts the Thunderbolt. You won't be able to sidestep it, and attempting a low move will fail to crush the mid as well as simply lose the race. This is one of the moves Hwo can use to apply dangerous pressure, but it is punishable, so keep calm and punish accordingly.
I think Master Raven is top tier. Most people place her in the high tier, but I think she is even better. Kinda hard to use well though. GoAttack is one of the best players in the world and a Raven main. I have watched him easily beat Knee using D.Jin, who is probably the number one strongest character in the game.

Funny, I was just watching your Leo Guide yesterday and you happened to upload a video about my main guy Hwoarang. I wouldn't say attacking all up in your face would be spamming, (unless they're using the same move over and over) Hwoarang’s a pressure/rushdown character with many weapons to confuse fighters. I do agree however that mid jab does wonders against Hwoarang and all of your tips here are really effective on generic Hwoarang players. Though I'd say that Flamingo Stance is very important to talk about as it's very good for transitioning moves and even going into armor kicks. Learning to punish/finding openings while Hwoarang's doing attacks in Flamingo are very fatal, and very often Hwoarang players tend to do the same patterns. but idk im still learning the awesome korean man
I was expecting a more in depth look at how to beat him there are more threatening moves like his infamous d 3 4 that's like +9 on hit natural combo on hit and unseeable as well as the rest of his key pokes in his stances and his launches such as B3 being -17 on block ,where you would generally want to step hwoarang and when I was told that you want to step him to whichever side his stomach is facing that way you can limit his options like for example how you generally want to step eddy to your right ,his left
Scrubs don't know this but Hwo has a 14 frame mid homing move. Although, it is unsafe. But I don't step him. The thing is he's weak against a keep out game and can't handle pressure very well. So, either use heavy zoning with characters like Jin and Dragaunov, or don't give the Hwo player a chance to breath with offensive characters like Nina, Miguel, and Law. Although, really good Hwo players will find ways to overcome his weaknesses like for example his crouch dash. Hope this helped.
Infinite Prime I had a general idea on how to beat him and the keepout thing makes sense on why eddy always historically kicked hwoarangs ass for free that as well as hwoarang could never punish him very hard either lol
Grant Barbour No, it's actually 16 frames. His df4 is his only homing move from LFF stance. It used to be 14 frames in TTT2 and I thought it had stayed that way in Tekken 7. But that doesn't matter. The point I was trying to make before was that he has a fast homing move from standing (LFF).

I like your content, but as a Hwoarang player myself, this was way too long if you talk only about 4 moves. You didn't talk about plasma blade, getting out of strings, how to pressure him ( cause he has problems with that ), what to do against flamingo options, his lackluster ws punisher without cancel, few mids. 20 mins of basically: "yea this move is good, but it has this one weakness that is really obvious = block or step it!"
Strengths: Extremely safe, good counter hit game, good gap closer in demon paw, best parry ever, good damage, fastest tracking move ever, easy and consistent wall combos. Weakness: Fighting in leather gets really sweaty, especially on the Jungle stage.
Ashante Moore You have no gimmicks, you have to be really honest with Jin, he needs EWHF which is hard, he is not great at handling pressure. He is hard but certainly easier than all the hard characters (Mishimas, Bryan, Lee, Nina, Hwoarang, Steve).
if you made an in depth how to it would of been much better because most of the time it won't be a lot of information against decent players and it will help both the casuals and the people who want to improve but doesn't have much time
Side step drags right arm to make running 2 whiff and low parry D 2 , the other guy who commented on this is a dumb ass drag has many holes in his kit you just have to find them and drags execution game is hard so no he is not cheap
Stratosfear the God exactly! There are some bad matchups but even then it comes down to the better PLAYER. Sick of people saying a character is "op" just because they don't know how to approach said character. The game is super well balanced and if you're having trouble against a string or strat there's always the record function in practice mode
Man, this game is hard. Picked a character, watched some guides and tournaments to get the idea on good moves and combos, messed around in training mode few weeks on that character, jumped into online ranked matches and i've my got ass handed to me. Holy crap, i feel like a slug in online matches compared to tournament players. Yeah, i've learned some combos in practice mode, i kinda do wavedashes but i can't backdash, whiff punish, block-punish or just block someone who keeps attacking like Hwoarang. My defense literally does not exist against agressive players. I don't wanna mash my way through against this type opponents so i try to punish them with launchers or hopkicks but then i get a low hit which converts into a huge combo and i lose all my health. I don't know you guys but defending and blocking things like mid-low mix ups are the hardest thing in this game imho because mids are friggin overheads. Gotta work on my defense a lot. Damn, sorry for the wall of text haha. PS: Oh and i perform worst on my promotion matches somehow lol.
This is like a game where you have to learn ALL the fundamentals before you can improve yourself in this game. i have started playing Tekken last year and I still have a lot of shit to learn, breaking grabs, frame data , etc. i know that I have to learn everything before I grt better. I'd say you should do the same :)
Law player here. My worst matchup since it feels like this man's block pressure is insane, way more insane than my jab/df1/db3 pressure. Plus, I try to interrupt it with 10 frames but all it does it trade which ends in his favor since he's got more range and I'm left to figure out an approach without getting launched from attempted slides. A common tip though, when in doubt just crouch jab so at least you could get some semblance of a turn. For fellow Law players, this is where d2, 3 comes in handy to get that sweet, sweet wall carry, corner pressure and 50%. But once he figures that out by launching after a blocked 2,3, sorry mah dudes but we're just gonna have to hold it sometimes as if it's some block string from a vortex character and then just guess right.
The best way to beat a general hwoarang is playing with him for a week or so. He is VERY easy to beat. When I play mirror match hwoarang vs hwoarang with someone like 5 ranks above me, I am still able to beat them easily. I am not really that good of a player but when it's hwoarang I know what people do. These general hwoarang's we find are fakes. Hwoarang is a much MUCH difficult character and these spams don't work on high ranks.
Someone gets it. Im a hwo main and people dont realize he's smoke and mirrors. Im at destroyer and the higher I go the more I realize flamingo is a liability until I get mind games going. After a few matches in a set, when ive trained the opponent to not duck is when I start the rush down. By that time they're usually terrified to duck and catch a JFSR to the face...but it takes a lot of work. If you just rely on offense, especially flamingo, (unless you're itsmuzz lmao) you're gonna get murdered and not make it out of yellow. It's hella satisfying when you can demolish ppl without it because they can't really call you a spammer lol. Check out some of my vids to see what I mean!

juggernuts1000 from the 2 weeks I've been playing tekken (with highest rank being fighter) the few Claudio's I've played against do the hopkick when you try a WR against them (I main Dragunov) so try faking a WR, make them whiff and punish it, in the start of the round I recommend blocking or maybe trying to throw out a quick jab. Sorry for not being more informative, just haven't had the matchup that often
thanks but i know how to handle claudio very well. if i couldnt handle spamming claudio, i probably couldnt make it to byakko. i am not saying you cant handle him. but with the 2 moves i have stated he has way too much advantage and reward for a character. there shouldnt be a character which can basically do very well, at least around green, yellow and even low orange ranks, with just 2 moves mainly.

Funny, I was just watching your Leo Guide yesterday and you happened to upload a video about my main guy Hwoarang.
I wouldn't say attacking all up in your face would be spamming, (unless they're using the same move over and over) Hwoarang’s a pressure/rushdown character with many weapons to confuse fighters. I do agree however that mid jab does wonders against Hwoarang and all of your tips here are really effective on generic Hwoarang players.
Though I'd say that Flamingo Stance is very important to talk about as it's very good for transitioning moves and even going into armor kicks. Learning to punish/finding openings while Hwoarang's doing attacks in Flamingo are very fatal, and very often Hwoarang players tend to do the same patterns.

I was expecting a more in depth look at how to beat him there are more threatening moves like his infamous d 3 4 that's like +9 on hit natural combo on hit and unseeable as well as the rest of his key pokes in his stances and his launches such as B3 being -17 on block ,where you would generally want to step hwoarang and when I was told that you want to step him to whichever side his stomach is facing that way you can limit his options like for example how you generally want to step eddy to your right ,his left
Scrubs don't know this but Hwo has a 14 frame mid homing move. Although, it is unsafe. But I don't step him. The thing is he's weak against a keep out game and can't handle pressure very well. So, either use heavy zoning with characters like Jin and Dragaunov, or don't give the Hwo player a chance to breath with offensive characters like Nina, Miguel, and Law. Although, really good Hwo players will find ways to overcome his weaknesses like for example his crouch dash. Hope this helped.
Infinite Prime I had a general idea on how to beat him and the keepout thing makes sense on why eddy always historically kicked hwoarangs ass for free that as well as hwoarang could never punish him very hard either lol

Grant Barbour No, it's actually 16 frames. His df4 is his only homing move from LFF stance. It used to be 14 frames in TTT2 and I thought it had stayed that way in Tekken 7. But that doesn't matter. The point I was trying to make before was that he has a fast homing move from standing (LFF).

Hugo Sheever Try backdash a bit to make space for yourself because Nina's range is not all that good.
Master Raven Tip: The wall is her best friend, so just start bashing opponent once you get near the wall.

The Old Guard You can do ducking in some of his moves, then do a solid while standing move.

I like your content, but as a Hwoarang player myself, this was way too long if you talk only about 4 moves. You didn't talk about plasma blade, getting out of strings, how to pressure him ( cause he has problems with that ), what to do against flamingo options, his lackluster ws punisher without cancel, few mids. 20 mins of basically: "yea this move is good, but it has this one weakness that is really obvious = block or step it!"

Strengths: Extremely safe, good counter hit game, good gap closer in demon paw, best parry ever, good damage, fastest tracking move ever, easy and consistent wall combos.
Weakness: Fighting in leather gets really sweaty, especially on the Jungle stage.

Ashante Moore You have no gimmicks, you have to be really honest with Jin, he needs EWHF which is hard, he is not great at handling pressure. He is hard but certainly easier than all the hard characters (Mishimas, Bryan, Lee, Nina, Hwoarang, Steve).
Can the last hit of air raid be low parried? seems important when the move is + on block.

Stratosfear the God exactly! There are some bad matchups but even then it comes down to the better PLAYER. Sick of people saying a character is "op" just because they don't know how to approach said character. The game is super well balanced and if you're having trouble against a string or strat there's always the record function in practice mode
Man, this game is hard. Picked a character, watched some guides and tournaments to get the idea on good moves and combos, messed around in training mode few weeks on that character, jumped into online ranked matches and i've my got ass handed to me. Holy crap, i feel like a slug in online matches compared to tournament players.
Yeah, i've learned some combos in practice mode, i kinda do wavedashes but i can't backdash, whiff punish, block-punish or just block someone who keeps attacking like Hwoarang. My defense literally does not exist against agressive players. I don't wanna mash my way through against this type opponents so i try to punish them with launchers or hopkicks but then i get a low hit which converts into a huge combo and i lose all my health. I don't know you guys but defending and blocking things like mid-low mix ups are the hardest thing in this game imho because mids are friggin overheads. Gotta work on my defense a lot.

PS: Oh and i perform worst on my promotion matches somehow lol.
This is like a game where you have to learn ALL the fundamentals before you can improve yourself in this game. i have started playing Tekken last year and I still have a lot of shit to learn, breaking grabs, frame data , etc. i know that I have to learn everything before I grt better. I'd say you should do the same :)

Law player here. My worst matchup since it feels like this man's block pressure is insane, way more insane than my jab/df1/db3 pressure. Plus, I try to interrupt it with 10 frames but all it does it trade which ends in his favor since he's got more range and I'm left to figure out an approach without getting launched from attempted slides. A common tip though, when in doubt just crouch jab so at least you could get some semblance of a turn. For fellow Law players, this is where d2, 3 comes in handy to get that sweet, sweet wall carry, corner pressure and 50%. But once he figures that out by launching after a blocked 2,3, sorry mah dudes but we're just gonna have to hold it sometimes as if it's some block string from a vortex character and then just guess right.
The best way to beat a general hwoarang is playing with him for a week or so. He is VERY easy to beat. When I play mirror match hwoarang vs hwoarang with someone like 5 ranks above me, I am still able to beat them easily. I am not really that good of a player but when it's hwoarang I know what people do. These general hwoarang's we find are fakes. Hwoarang is a much MUCH difficult character and these spams don't work on high ranks.
Someone gets it. Im a hwo main and people dont realize he's smoke and mirrors. Im at destroyer and the higher I go the more I realize flamingo is a liability until I get mind games going. After a few matches in a set, when ive trained the opponent to not duck is when I start the rush down. By that time they're usually terrified to duck and catch a JFSR to the face...but it takes a lot of work.
If you just rely on offense, especially flamingo, (unless you're itsmuzz lmao) you're gonna get murdered and not make it out of yellow. It's hella satisfying when you can demolish ppl without it because they can't really call you a spammer lol.

do a video about fuckin claudio. the 2 move wonder with his hopkick and the superman punch that takes away like half of your halfbar
juggernuts1000 from the 2 weeks I've been playing tekken (with highest rank being fighter) the few Claudio's I've played against do the hopkick when you try a WR against them (I main Dragunov) so try faking a WR, make them whiff and punish it, in the start of the round I recommend blocking or maybe trying to throw out a quick jab. Sorry for not being more informative, just haven't had the matchup that often
thanks but i know how to handle claudio very well. if i couldnt handle spamming claudio, i probably couldnt make it to byakko. i am not saying you cant handle him. but with the 2 moves i have stated he has way too much advantage and reward for a character. there shouldnt be a character which can basically do very well, at least around green, yellow and even low orange ranks, with just 2 moves mainly.

no you are right. my post seems like i am asking for help to deal with the character. i meant he should explain for other people because when i was orange ranks and i played many claudios that just did those 2 moves i was like wtff??? how the hell did they get to those ranks with basically using just those 2 moves.
