Where would we find the advanced tutorials for registration?

Are there any render time/speed differences between the types of registrations?

Also, when you disable the compensator for the majority of the scans, do you still get the level bubble in the green or just move the scanner and start scanning?

Either way. In general it's good to keep the scanner close to level but it is not required for registration. I tend to always level the scanner since it usually only takes a few seconds. In TRW you can force the software to recognize a station leveled or unleveled. You can also have the software attempt to automatically level a project based on surrounding features such as walls. Now certainly if you are doing something like checking the levelness of a floor or wall you will want to make sure the scanner is leveled with the compensator turned on for at least one scan which you can use as a reference during registration.

OfficialTRW Awesome! I tried using Target base registration earlier today, but it didn't work. Does there have to be a Target visible in every scan in order for that to work?

You will want to have 3 common targets or more between each station setup for the best results. If for some reason a target gets moved or maybe someone walks in front of it when the scanner is looking at it then it is better to have some back ups. Now if you find that you don't have enough targets to register you can use the automatic plane based registration which usually does the trick or you can use the manual registration where you pick a common point or points between two scans. Very last resort you can just manually move the scans to line up with each other.

The area I'm scanning is very large. 9 targets spread throughout, and a ton of equipment blocking the targets from one scan to another. (I usually scan the targets first) I've been using the plane base registration ever since I started this job. Seems like that relies a lot on the PC, and with ~60+ scans per project folder, sometimes the computer has taken 30+ hours to finish. Even if it took me 5 mins to line up one scan to another, I could get it done faster manually.

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to mount the TX8 upside down while scanning? There is no mention of it in the manual, and I haven't been able to find anything online about it. Thanks for all the help!

Any plans on doing some advanced registration videos like you mentioned?

Yes. What kinds of registration are you interested in most? Target Based or Targetless?

How to troubleshoot errors in target registration would helpful.
How to combine target registration, cloud registration and the station setup workflows and maybe mix in a little georeferencing.
I would also like to see a little more information regarding importing control points from a list and the differences between importing them as TopoStation points, in a station points and how this effects target and or instrument heights and when to use each.
I remember reading something somewhere about topostation points and target heights not being compatible, but I'm having a hard time remembering where I saw it.
It's been a rough first week in TRW, but your videos have helped a lot and I've just been unlucky with my first set projects being so complicated.
I've got pretty much everything figured out, but those are the areas I struggled with and would love to see how you guys do it and hopefully I'll learn some of your tricks.

Hello, when you are creating the sample scans with details. Is there any way to reduce the density of the detailed points. Would be perfecet to have two options to fill, one for flat parts and one for details. The scans are getting to big if you can not do it.

Hi I know it has been a long time since this video but I wonder if there are videos where things don't go to plan and you have a disaster which you have to sort out the many problems you find a long the way? Of course when you deal with programs as such things, for most of the time, only go smooth when you are a pro. In the case of Realworks I can't really find any information the sort out the most comun problems like tune all the scans not alined.

Thank you for the suggestion. We can look into making a video that covers common registration issues and how to solve them.

    Hello Guys
    This seems an old demo.
do you have some videos and tutorials for RealWorks 12.3, please? @trimble RealWorks

Hi Layth, we do have some new content for versions 12 and up, specifically for pipe modeling, inspections and meshes. Was there something in particular you would like to see, perhaps updated registration? Let us know, we'd be happy to create it!
