Thank you Dr. B! I’m 2 years in my recovery from alcohol. I take as little medication as possible because I’m scared of the long term side effects. Thank you for being so transparent and looking out for the patients first instead of getting paid from pharmaceutical companies. I always enjoy your videos. ✌🏻

Drs will give a pill for every symptom. This for depression, that for sleep. Having multiple prescriptions can lead to more drug interactions and sedating effects. Peace.

I don’t understand why people celebrate coming off Suboxone! I see it as an insurance policy at this point. I know in my heart and soul that I am an opiate addict from the beginning. I also know that I have zero reason to stop taking Suboxone! Why? Because I don’t crave that opiate high unless I stop taking Suboxone as prescribed! I also know that if someone were to offer me some kind of opiate it simply wouldn’t work! Not to mention that I have never been mind altered by it. Maybe my tolerance is through the roof because of my 30+ years of Heroin/Oxycontin/Methadone/ Suboxone intake. I’m like a human lab rat in that I never really cared about whether or not I woke up the next morning. I can say with certainty that it’s safe because I used to attempt to abuse it. It has a ceiling that you can’t bust through. I have a wonderful Dr. and several people in the 12 step program to thank for my life! I’m 52. But I feel like I’m 25.

@Davo2233 cold turkey is not a good thing at all to do. U can have seizures and even none stop seizures. That isn't too smart. If it worked for u. U are lucky. Any dr knows some meds no way do it cold turkey. Tapering down is hard enough. Quitting cold turkey and putting urself through withdrawal like that is absolutely Terrible idea to to.

@@becky438 I know it as well. Just the facts. That’s what I did. I never said not to taper off but the county jail wasn’t interested in that approach apparently. I just don’t want to hear bitching about tapering off. It’s not that hard. Go at your own speed if your dr. Will let you.

    You’re right DOCTOR

I absolutely agree! My son has liver cirrhosis stage 4 and was admitted to the hospital a few months back due to his hepatic encephalopathy getting really bad. The hospital took him off meds and put him on different ones without talking to his primrary or even liver team he has. I at one point told them, "Im telling you right now his primrary care is going to take him off whatever your putting him on and put him on different unless you reach out and talk to him", She literally said to me, " we don't do that's here, we have our own team we talked to"! What! Their playing with peoples health because of the non comunication between doctors 😡 Needless to say when he was released his doctor did exactly what I said, took him off of the crap the hospital put him on. 🤦‍♀️ For example the hospital put him on percoset even after I told them and showed them he was on 2mg dilaudid two x a day for his pain. His liver is failing and percoset is not good for him to be on, neither is dilaudid but according to his doctor it better helps with his pain. 🤷‍♀️ Anyways I don't know why I just said all that I just wanted to point out your right on the fact that doctors do not communicate even if its a life and death situation and its so irritating.

What can you do when you are diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and the treatment causes side effects and you end up on 3 more drugs for example xeljanz worked well at treating rheumatoid arthritis but a known side effect is rising cholesterol and lipids so doctors prescribed crestor, lovaza and fenofibrate. Then blood pressure jumped up and next thing doctors prescribed 3 blood pressure meds. With flare ups the autoimmune disease causes anterior uveitis so heavy doses of prednisone were prescribed because the person suddenly lost their eye sight from the autoimmune disease flare. The prednisone also raised the lipids caused heart palpitations, insomnia and panic attacks. Ambien was added for insomnia and lorazepam for panic attacks because the patient could not tolerate 60 mg of prednisone otherwise. So the list gets worse when a diagnosis of felty syndrome is made requiring treatment with rituxan. Now the patient has chronic sinus infections because her B cells are depleted by rituxan and her body isn’t producing enough IgG antibodies to fight bacterial and viral infections. Plus her body can make antibodies to vaccines now… and the story gets worse…

Awesome explanation, Dr. B. It appears Matthew was using Ketamine for his mental health issues. It's a shame that he didn't try ECT treatment instead of drugs. He was on so many medications for various comorbidities that were accelerated by his decades of drug and alcohol use. Such a tragic loss of such a beautiful man.

In my experience with polypharmacy, most doctors are scared to be the one responsible for the potential negative consequences that may result from taking a patient off of a medication that they themselves didn't originally prescribe.
If I wanted to get off of a few of my medications (which I do), I of course could just do it myself, but I would have to do it with zero help/support.
