- Yusuf / Cat Stevens found success early and often. With an impressive mix of gold and platinum albums and his black Gibson J-180, Cat Stevens stood as the embodiment of the 1970s singer-songwriter. A modern troubadour on a quest for spiritual enlightenment through music, it was on his J-180 that he wrote and recorded many of his most beloved hits, including “Wild World,” “Peace Train,” “Father and Son,” and many more.
The Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop is proud to introduce the Cat Stevens J-180 Collector's Edition. Bought in London’s famous Selmer’s Music Shop in 1969, Cat was initially drawn to the J-180’s elegant style. However, its percussive quality soon became an essential component of his signature sound. This limited guitar features a thermally aged Sitka spruce top, mother of pearl moon and star headstock inlay, graduated star fretboard inlays, and an interior label hand-signed by Yusuf / Cat Stevens. A Cat Stevens hardshell case is also included.
A true songwriter that’s dabbled in a variety of musical stylings, Yusuf / Cat Stevens is revered as one of the great songwriters of all time.

I have a lot of time for the classic music of Cat Stevens, particularly the Teaser & the Firecat album. The guitar's for the collectors, but his timeless songs are for everyone.
This guitar sound was always the perfect acoustic sound for me. It was gentle and would float, but it still had a crispness and thickness about it

I've loved Cat's music since I first heard "Wild World" back in the day. During college and after, that's all I wanted to play on guitar, his beautiful music. Fortunate enough to see him in concert for the Magikat tour. If you're listening, Gibson, how about a more affordable version for us regular folks?

I'm guessing many have waited a long time for such a tribute guitar and it looks as though Gibson have made a great job of this one. Cat's acoustic guitar sound on his early albums was sublime and inspirational, a perfect picking and rhythm guitar, just listen to how great it sounded.
Like to see/hear this guitar put up against a standard J180, or even a J185. I had a black 1990's J180, loved it for size, playability and looks, but the sound was so variable, one day great, most days not. Never quite got to the reason why.
