Transfer case, stock front diff, seem to take most turbo combos people are building, I would be curious to see if it can handle the torque. But at the same time it's a solid combo already. It would be easy enough to sell that one as is, and build another with a big block....I mean there's only a million of those trucks around.
Great to see Pat! Funny I was thinking about him the whole time you were degreeing the cam..lol Well done, gentlemen! Greetings from the farm in S Carolina!!
I’ve learned a lot from Pat over at PowerNation, but LT has helped me directly on my project. I did the big radiator with E fans and couldn’t get the tune right. He actually responded and gave me a hand. Awesome guy!
I'm SOOO happy you and Pat keep in touch! I was going to comment on the last video, "You should call Pat, he'll know dial bore right off the top of his head." LOL
I only just discovered this channel, but I love it! And that you're talking to Topolinski makes it all that much better. I especially love that you asked him about horsepower vs. boost, and he thinks for a second, and says, "20 pounds of boost will get you 1750" without doing a single calculation.
Always a treat to see Pat T. He's looking lean and healthy. I'm not concerned with the output of the engine, but rather how you'll get enough traction to make it down the strip.
Nice to see your always so humble. Your channel is really solid, you will keep growing, cool to see Pat pop in to throw you some advice. I get selling the copo truck while it's in this phase. It would be easy enough to clone, can't wait to see what happens next.
If you want to get rid of the COPO, instead of selling it. Detune and raffle it off. Then it would go to a follower that may not be able to purchase it outright. I know I’d buy some merch for a chance to own it. Just an idea.
Shout out to Mark and the Bullet cams team. LT, I'm late, but would it be wise to degree the cam for low RPM power and let the turbo carry on the power from boost threshold to the upper RPMs? Basically letting the cam do the work down low and the turbo do the work up high.
Pat is to cool and he knows all kinds of stuff, i love watching their channel doing builds and then dynoing them. My favorite part is when they start testing all kinds of different off the shelf parts. It's nice to know what works of the shelf with other parts.
My personal experience with cam degreeing, I like advancing the cam timing 4 degrees. Did that on a 80' evo harley, a 460 BBC with a 270 degree cam, & a 468 BBC with a 312 camshaft. You aren't wanting to turn big RPM's with this engine, and you don't need to. There's no replacement for displacement. And the engine will last years longer by not spinning it so hard. My 468 lasted 12 seasons on the dirt track circuit without needing a freshen up, and I chipped it at 7000rpm's. It usually never turned over 6400.
No replacement for displacement! This is awesome, reminds me of the Viper Truck build from powernation! I'm so happy with my Viper Truck cam swap,I couldn't have done it without your help. I'm glad I didn't have to set the timing like this though, seems so tedious, but so crucial! Cheers from Canada!
I've always remembered a quote I read in Hot Rod magazine from the late great legendary engine builder Joe Sherman. He said you advance, or retard the cam timing to get the highest cylinder pressure and it should make the best power. Of course this is simply a tuning tool and not set in stone. It's something to play with when you are chasing power.
I think the engine here makes more sense in the longer wheelbase truck. It’s better for traction and stability. Besides, the “COPO” is cool, but would destroy the AWD system with 1500hp at the wheels. I’d agree- probably time to let that one go. I was more excited about that suburban you rehomed. A big off road SUV with equally big power would be rad.
Agreed 👍 I have a 05 GMC Sierra 1500 4 door with possi, and a 07 Classic Silverado short bed single cab with possi, when I smoke the tires the GMC is very forgiving for a long burnout but the single cab i have to stay on top of it or I'll be pointing the wrong direction in a hurry.
Stapleton42 has a 6000lb full size AWD Escalade with 2000 HP running 9s In the 1/4 mile. He hasn't had any problems with the AWD system. I think it would be great to see a turbo 427 LS in the COPO truck.
And they already make the LSX 454 block! The parts are all there to do a limited production run, like 3000 trucks, which the dealers can then mark up about 50 grand, like they do with ZO6s. 🙄🤨
After how many miles do you expect you will need to regularly adjust the valves? I've see .680 lift Hyd Rollers. A small reduction in lift to never have to adjust valves seems like a easy call. I've also heard folks have had alot of luck with the new CompCamp Evolution/short travel lifters.
Man such a cool build and I was wondering if you were going to gat Pat involved. Glad that you did and he is an incredible engine builder and I have been subscribed to their channel and watch it whenever I can. Can't wait to see this new engine all together and running! :)
My son is only 18 and he loves making things go fast like you also he builds 4 cylinder boosted Hondas just need someone to steer him in the right direction!!
As always.."GREAT BUILD"....2 questions. 1st couldnt you use conventional headers over the stock manifolds ? And 2nd, what turbo are you going to use on the 8.8 ?
Hey I don’t know how you feel about painting the engine Pontiac blue. The light blue version that is. It’s a color you don’t see often and I think would be great for your plan of the truck being different!
The COPO truck is pretty sweet as it is and it seems like it achieved all your goals at the start. The big block in the ugly truck is the bomb, big ugly power in a big ugly truck! Maybe it is time for another ride? Do you have any videos or recommendations for picking a cam for a 97 vortec 5.7 with roller lifters and cleaned up stock heads? I am port and polishing them and will use a carb on a 74 Jimmy.
Many people including myself have built engines without setting the degree of the cam and the engine ran beautifully. I really have to watch some videos about doing that to learn what the actual benefits are and is it that noticeable.
Gonna be a really cool build Those standard style heads? 24 degree w/ 2.3 - 2.35 valve? If ya ever do another cam swap down the line I'd go to a 109-110 LCA. 535 NA probably about 105 as a baseline but with boost... think a 109-110 but less duration for the same overlap would make more power. If you were running 12 degree heads I'd have the wide lobe separation, even wider with a hemi
Probably should've asked CR as well More cr, wider lsa after a point but I'd imagine this build is sub 11.5:1 Also if ur running something like a 60mm+ cam (more agressive valve action) you'd spread the LCA Main thing is what kinda induction (flow capability but perhaps more importantly cross flow capability between intake and exhaust) vs the kinda cubes it feeds. For a given situation More cross flow & flow capability = wider lca More cubes = tighter
If you are using HPT for the big block build you can change the firing order in the tune, I think, instead of swapping wires. If you are going Holley I’m not sure but wouldn’t be surprised if you could.
You wanna hear some chop, put a gear drive timing set in it! I've always loved the sound of a gear drive! Yes! It's pocket protector Pat! He's the man!
Hi LT, I heard you mention that one of the plugs you installed oiled the the timing chain and gears. How does the excess oil return back into the engine? Thanks
Little orange truck has so many questions to still ask.. just a few. How much power can the 4.8 make? How much power can the awd gm parts handle? How quick can you make the thing? How light can you get the truck? So many things left to blow up errr test..
The big block is going together nicely, I would definitely drop that in the copo truck, that would be wild! But if not I would definitely not sell the copo truck it’s way to cool
what's the duration between intake valves opening that would tell us how much boost you would be able to boost to because of the time that the intake valves are closed what's the difference what's the separation between one cylinder opening and the next one opening on the intakes Mr LT
I still vote for a whippel blower on the junkyard 8.1L and put it in the COPO truck with the 4L80e and AWD, the biggest and best drivetrain GM has ever made, well almost biggest and some may argue the best, or top 25 anyways
What if you have a 2 cams? I'm about to rebuild my 1.8T Audi engine and it have dual overhead cams. Could I make better/more usable power by doing that even with stock cams, and if so how?
So what do you think, AWD turbo big block COPO truck?
Think we will see what will break if it cuts a good 60ft but would be fun on the street
Most definitely
Transfer case, stock front diff, seem to take most turbo combos people are building, I would be curious to see if it can handle the torque. But at the same time it's a solid combo already. It would be easy enough to sell that one as is, and build another with a big block....I mean there's only a million of those trucks around.
No.
Yes, big block in copo AWD truck.
I’d love to see a Pat and LT collaboration build.
Pat is the man.
Agreed!
Awesome seeing Pat!
i've never seen him without 300 pens in his pocket
100% agree.Pat is the man
Pat is pretty smart when it comes to engines. Cool that you guys still stay in contact and help each other out.
Great to see Pat! Funny I was thinking about him the whole time you were degreeing the cam..lol
Well done, gentlemen! Greetings from the farm in S Carolina!!
Thought the same exact thing lol
Love seeing a Pat cameo during an LT video. Reminds me of when Saturday mornings weren't then time I got off of work, but the time I woke up.
Holy moly, Pat looks great!. He may be the king of pocket protectors and pen collections, but he sure knows his engine tech.
Great video LT!! Very cool having Pat on this one!! Keep up the great work!
If I could choose anyone to build an engine, Pat would be my top choice! Knowledge and attention to detail are top notch with him!
Oh crap! Pat! Love the cameo!
My Son and I ran into Pat at LS Fest East. He is an awesome guy. Very humble and easy to chat with.
Nice to see your always so humble. Your channel is really solid, you will keep growing, cool to see Pat pop in to throw you some advice. I get selling the copo truck while it's in this phase. It would be easy enough to clone, can't wait to see what happens next.
Glad to see you called the "PROFESSOR "
Good to see Pat on your channel.
If you want to get rid of the COPO, instead of selling it. Detune and raffle it off. Then it would go to a follower that may not be able to purchase it outright. I know I’d buy some merch for a chance to own it. Just an idea.

Immaculate attention to detail. This thing should make some incredible numbers. It would be wild in the awd Copo..
Thumbs up for the Pat Topolinski cameo!
PAT!!!! I have been waiting for this since I started watching your youtube channel. The Pat collab. So freaking awesome.
it is so nice to see then together again on screeen
It was good do have his help!

I didn't hardly recognize Pat without his pocket protector on.😂😂💪👍👍
Must have felt naked without it.
Great inspiration for my own 8.1 build and love the channel
Thanks!
Shout out to both of you for showing the 8.1 some love. Ls is cool no lie but a real deal big block chevy is just special!
Ya my grandpa had one in a ranch truck and it just made me always want to build one with power and reliability like LT
As soon as you started degreeing the cam. All I though was he's calling pat topolinski. He's the cam man. Good to see him on your channel.
When installing a cam most people just spit on it and ram it in. LT hit that RIGHT 👍
appreciated!
I was just thinking about Pat when I saw him come on the screen. Great seeing him on your channel. Can’t wait to see this beat run
Great video LT, Real nice that you had Pat on, Well done.
Great channel! Good to see Pat,he’s lost 30 pens, and 20#s.

Dude I love your builds! If you ask me they should start selling big power big engine trucks from the factory. Kinda like the ram TRX
I agree. GM kinda missed the boat on that one.
And they already make the LSX 454 block! The parts are all there to do a limited production run, like 3000 trucks, which the dealers can then mark up about 50 grand, like they do with ZO6s. 🙄🤨
Very true lol. But that would be a pretty sick truck. They could kinda make it with retro style badges like the old C10 454’s
Man the phone call is so awesome so much info.
Looking forward to hearing and seeing it run. Enjoyed the video.
You and me both!
Holy Special Guest Batman! Bringing in the big dog! A+ cameo.
I'm really glad you decided to go off on your own here with RUclips. Great build here
thanks a ton! it is a lot of fun doing this for sure
I can not wait to start the rebuild of my 8.1l with all this new info keep it up LT love the videos man
Thanks! Will do!
Hey LT, keep in mind anything quicker than 8.50 requires a significant upgrade in the roll cage and a different Cert. Good Luck
Wait, is LT saying "oil galley" or "oil gallery"?
How much high pressure oil can you get from the kitchen on a ship?
After how many miles do you expect you will need to regularly adjust the valves? I've see .680 lift Hyd Rollers. A small reduction in lift to never have to adjust valves seems like a easy call. I've also heard folks have had alot of luck with the new CompCamp Evolution/short travel lifters.

Love your show man!!! Glad to see you brought the old man in lol!!! Pats awesome glad to see you guys still talk!!
I know it’s still kinda late but I see why Pat always has his cup with him, that would make work go smoothly
favorite youtube hands down!!!
Appreciated!
Pat Topolinski is the man!
yessir!
Thank you for all the 8.1 content you have produced on RUclips. I drive a 8.1 that I have done some mods to
Can wait to see results
My son is only 18 and he loves making things go fast like you also he builds 4 cylinder boosted Hondas just need someone to steer him in the right direction!!
When i heard "I have someone who can do better job" instantly I thougth about Pat
I was going to ask if you still talk to Pat. You answered my question. Lol
yup, I try to keep in touch as much as possible!
Loved the phone call. Good tech.
thanks! it was great to have some advice from Pat
Dude good job on degreeing in the cam. You made it look easy im sure someone will learn from that
I just subscribed to your channel, like that you pay attention to the details and ask when you don't no the answer, good job man.
It was awesome seeing Pat!!
was great to get his help!
Power Nation was my favorite show Saturday morning
mine as well! I loved watching Kevin and Ryan
As always.."GREAT BUILD"....2 questions. 1st couldnt you use conventional headers over the stock manifolds ? And 2nd, what turbo are you going to use on the 8.8 ?

All of those bottles behind Topolinski... Seafoam, STP, and brake fluid?
That is awesome I can't wait to see it run
me too!
They need to dyno the big block for you!!! That would be badass!!
Awesome to see pat on the channel
was glad to have him on!
😎Horsepower comes down to the science when u want it to be reliable
I wish I could keep my garage that clean and organized
That intake looks fantastic!
Man that's way cool you got Pat on there. Be so awesome if you two got together for a build for your channel.
Gonna be a really cool build

Good seeing Pat and his "Sauce" collection! I can't wait to see this monster get down! Love your channel buddy!
Awesome to see Pat T.
Hate to see you sell the COPO truck- it really is a very cool project.

Great point!
So what kinda high performance vavle springs did you have installed? And did you use stock over titanium valves?
Good to see Pat
was good to have him on!
You wanna hear some chop, put a gear drive timing set in it! I've always loved the sound of a gear drive!
Yes! It's pocket protector Pat! He's the man!
my dad had a Pete Jackson noisy gear drive for a while, sounded just like a blower!
@@LawrenceTolman yeah!
Yes I won something!
Off topic , what camshaft and lifters would you recommend, I have 98 k2500 7.4 auto , need a cam for towing , no other mods planned .
This is awesome.
Seriously, for real, if you ever want to sell that COPO truck, I would love to buy it. Keep me on your short list.
send me an email to tolmanperformance@gmail.com if you're an interested buyer...
Hi LT, I heard you mention that one of the plugs you installed oiled the the timing chain and gears. How does the excess oil return back into the engine? Thanks
The timing chain area of the block is open along the bottom, so it will just drain back into the oil pan
Thanks for another great video. Will that wideband setup work with HP tuners?
Yup, it outputs a 0 to 5 volt signal perfect for HP Tubers and most other data loggers as well
The ugly truck is only going to be ugly on the outside. Can't wait to hear the first fire of the new big block!
Pat is a good guy
Little orange truck has so many questions to still ask.. just a few. How much power can the 4.8 make? How much power can the awd gm parts handle? How quick can you make the thing? How light can you get the truck? So many things left to blow up errr test..
On the orange truck what Catalytic converter’s do you have on there I seen them in the video?
Nice 02 sensor mod awesome for any hot rod !
The big block is going together nicely, I would definitely drop that in the copo truck, that would be wild! But if not I would definitely not sell the copo truck it’s way to cool
PAT!!! I want to win the 410 Windsor!!🙏🙏🙏 I love that build!💪💪💪
👍👍👍good build can't wait to see it run
You and me both!
lol whatchamacallit guide plate thing, love it. sounds as technical as me when i describe the doohickey on a pc
what's the duration between intake valves opening that would tell us how much boost you would be able to boost to because of the time that the intake valves are closed what's the difference what's the separation between one cylinder opening and the next one opening on the intakes Mr LT
Gauges color contrast would look good to me on the hood. I grew up in 80's w/ ProStreet
I still vote for a whippel blower on the junkyard 8.1L and put it in the COPO truck with the 4L80e and AWD, the biggest and best drivetrain GM has ever made, well almost biggest and some may argue the best, or top 25 anyways
Never underestimate the power of monitoring your air/fuel ratio. 😅
Why do you feel the equivalence ratio would be different behind the cat?
I thought Pat Topolinski was cool, then i saw where he does his zoom calls. Now i KNOW Pat Topolinski is cool
What if you have a 2 cams? I'm about to rebuild my 1.8T Audi engine and it have dual overhead cams. Could I make better/more usable power by doing that even with stock cams, and if so how?
Great video awesome builds you put out.
