    My 2 year old toddler broke her leg jumping off the sofa 7 weeks ago. Here's our recap video, to show the process of how quickly she learned to get around on her cast, and re-learning to walk again after 5.5 weeks in the cast. We hope it'll help other families not sure what to expect when their baby or toddler breaks a leg (apparently it's pretty common since bone strength comes from weight bearing, which little ones haven't had much of yet!). But don't worry, it's scary and sad but really not much of a big deal! Just watch our video to see how a broken leg didn't stop our little girl one bit!! Watch the following for more on the broken leg drama, and be sure to subscribe to our channel for more videos of our cute kids, my product reviews, and our travels around the world!!

    Thank you so much for sharing this video with other people. We are at ER right now with my 4 y.o daughter. She jumped from monkey climbing and broke her leg, exactly like your daughter’s injury. Now, I can see our 6-7 weeks :)

      So happy to help! Def talk to doc if you aren’t seeing gradual improvement but gradual is key… they gotta build muscle back, overcome fear, overcome the weird walk they had developed, it takes time! You can help encourage it like I did or see a PT, but I think it would happen 100% naturally too

      Oh don't worry, she was totally fine. Of course the initial break hurt, and cutting it off scared her, but other than that she was her regular goofy happy self with the occasional toddler mood swing 😬 she's almost 6 now!

      Ur hero in which day she started to try standing with the cast
      I am asking my self my LO when she can start to stand up or walking slowly with her cast
      And if it’s safe before removing the cast or no

    Aw... I hate that she broke her leg, but it sure didn't slow her down much did it?!

  • @danielleharrison5765
    @danielleharrison5765 Год назад

    Not even leg in a cast can slow her down she's going super fast like nothing happened. Once I saw this episode of Rescue 911 and in the episode they were transporting race horses for the winter. And their trailer flipped onto its side and they open the tailored the Colt took off running that's normal for a horse because they're scared what they do when they're scared they take off running but his trailer mate she was stuck between the metal of the trailer. And they got her free and they were checking on her if she was okay she was after they checked out both of the horses they walked into trailer like nothing happened like the accident never existed. I was surprised.

    Thanks for posting! How long did it take your daughter to walk normally without a limp? Did she have any lasting affects from the injury? Knee and leg perform correctly? My 2yr old daughter just got her cast off a few days ago after having a buckle fracture on her tibia. She moves her leg well and bends, crawls without any issue but does not want to walk/stand on it. Just wondering your thoughts and anything you did to help her gain her mobility and confidence back.

    • @USJapanFam
      @USJapanFam  3 года назад

      Does it seem to hurt her or is she just scared? In the video you can see ours was quite scared but once she was up on it, didn't hurt, and she progressed from there. Took a few weeks to build the muscle up and I did work with her to slow her walking and focus on toe forward because she was so used to her foot being sideways in the cast when she walked. I'm not a professional but we did a bit of home-based PT in that way, just getting her to focus on correct positioning when possible.

    • @USJapanFam
      @USJapanFam  3 года назад

      The scooter was the first thing that got her to stand up. See if you can figure out a toy or activity she loves that requires standing and just go slow and make sure she doesn't fall or anything that could scare her and cause a setback

    • @jtfletcher2890
      @jtfletcher2890 3 года назад

      Yes her being scared is for sure playing a roll and we were told not to rush her to walk so we haven’t pushed it much. Like you, I was planning to do some at home PT for muscle strengthening and coordination for walking correctly again. Just wanted to get your point of view for your daughters recovery time and when normal walking began again. Thank you for your response!

      @@USJapanFam how did you build her muscle up ? My son is out of the cast but very reluctant to walk. Need help n advise

    • @USJapanFam
      @USJapanFam  2 года назад +1

      We didn't do PT but were prepared to go that route if not back to normal in 5 or so weeks. Thankfully she was. It was very gradual. No pushing, just encouraging, especially encouraging her to walk slowly instead of galloping LOL walking slowly and focusing on pointing toe forward. We would do it several times a day just for a minute or two, make it a game or something. Slowly but surely she got better!

      Call your doc. Sometimes there is swelling when first casted and then it goes down and cast is loose. Maybe they will allow you to text some photos?

    Hi!! My 24 months old baby girl had cast on her left leg for 4 weeks. After removing cast she doesn't want to walk for the first 4 days. Then she started standing, then slowly she started walking, but she is limbing. Now it is 2 weeks without cast, and she still limbs. I am so confused and worried about this? How many wks it takes to get ready?

    • @USJapanFam
      @USJapanFam  3 года назад

      I'm so sorry to hear about it! Talk to your doctor, she may need a check up to make sure everything is OK. but in my experience, the muscles had atrophied (gotten very weak) while in the cast so it took some time to walk normally again. If I'm remembering correctly, the doctor said it can take as long as the cast was on to get back to normal (in our case that was 5 weeks but she was back to normal much before that).
