I just found Daphne's obituary. She was only 17. Her brain damage did turn out to be quite severe, but otherwise she seemed healthy, and more importantly, happy. Her neighbours wrote very nice things about her. Seems she was a ray of sunshine in the neighbourhood.
May she keep her fighting spirit, even on the other side.

That first case was infuriating, that baby was suffering from textbook seizures. Its disgusting that the first neurologist couldn't even identity it.

@@randomlyboring8358 the first neurologist did not go with the mother's diagnosis. He did not want to watch the video and just said there was nothing wrong, and sent them home. This is very common as doctors are doing less and less clinical exam and relying more and more only on tests and labs. So the baby's quality of life and clinical manifestation is being les and les important to docs. In addition now days we love to classify illness and stress reactions or mental health issues, so he probably just assumed the mom was too stressed out and worrying for nothing.

Likely because they went to the ER, which is mainly for life and limb emergencies, trauma etc...The correct thing to do would be to go to their GP and get a referral to a specialist. The specialist would be able to immediately narrow down appropriate tests and further referrals as needed.
Its like if you call out a mobile mechanic for a roadside assist, and when he arrives you try to show him photos of a bit of frayed carpet under your passenger seat. He doesn't want to look, and it seems weird because its a car problem...

Being an aspiring doctor, I totally agree when the mother said that no one knows a child like parents do. I hope that statement inspire future doctors (like me) to never dismiss any sign and symptom that a parent says, no matter how weird it sounds. If we shut our ears the moment a parent says these "weird" symptoms, it might cost a life. We should not think that we know better, because in truth, we don't know better. We're not the one who's with that child 24/7, so it pays to LISTEN. Again, NEVER DISMISS A SYMPTOM! If you don't know, refer to a specialist who you think who knows better.
And for the parents, if you think there's something wrong, please never let any doctor who dismissed these symptoms from discouraging you guys to find the right answer. Sad as it is to hear, there are really doctors who think they know everything and just dismiss it and find some weird symptoms a nuisance for them. (Honestly for me, I think they're just dismissing it because they can't accept the fact that they don't know everything, so they're gonna just pretend that it's nothing and dismiss it). But don't let their pride stop you from acting and knowing what's wrong.

Is true. Nowadays doctors, seem like too tired or not passionate at all by their profession or dont take it seriously.... But we can change that. I know myself too much about pain and discomfort... I dont know how a doctor can let the patient suffer that much, honestly... At least if you dont know, you try to refer them to another doctor or have some suspicion and research....

I can understand how they wouldn’t diagnose her correctly. I had other symptoms that could indicate my illness was something else. Scary and frustrating.
I was treated with prednisone for months. It was so hard to get off of it. Now I’m finally free of my symptoms and my illness.

1 of the doctors from “The Vet Life” on the animal planet channel took a 16 pound tumour out of a pit bull (that’s the size of 2 full term human babies) & he survived. That’s the only real-world case I’ve ever heard of that’s anything like this guy’s tumour. I don’t count shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” because they’re fake (& because the woman in the episode I’m thinking of died)

Ms LMC my son has it too, exactly like this baby, but it’s nystagmus and it’s when you look to the corner of you the eyes will bounce like crazy or if something comes close to the eye they bounce around just like this little girls. My son is 26 now and if you cover one of his eyes the other eye goes nuts bouncing all over the place, it’s neurological and there is nothing they can do for it. Also if you look closely at his eyes you can see the iris moving to focus, it’s almost like a robots eye you actually see them zoom in and out, it’s fascinating

If you have zero chance to survive a life-saving surgery at the moment, but there is a chance you could gain a bit of strength and then have surgery later. What is the smarter choice? Immediately killing you or hoping for improvement and then doing it?
