    Good idea to add powerbank to solar charger, will have to check it out. Thanks for sharing.

    This is a great design idea. It would be useful to show real data on charging. What is the effective wattage in full sun. I know the Nomad 7s do not deliver 7W but much less more like 4W. Is the Nomad 5 improved in terms of efficiency. All of the Goal Zero stuff works and is well made but I think specs for realistic use are overhyped for any vendor in this market. People buying Goal Zero come for quality which is there. Please add real use data and don't be afraid of others over advertising their products.

    I bought a Flip 24 and returned it after a week. It was working fine the first 2 days. On the third day, I would plug it in for 30 min and it would stop charging. I re-stabbed the plug and it would start charging again but after about 15 minutes it would stop charging. I charged it up that evening and tried using it again the next day and it did the same thing. So I took it back to REI and got another one. The second one did the same thing. What is the issue? I was using it to charge an iPhone X. I also used several different cables to see if that was the issue and still the same results. Thanks

    Are you able to charge the GoalZero Flip 36 without the Nomad Solar Panel?. Can you just use a normal USB or C Type cable to charge the Goal Zero Flip 36 or did you limit it to only be able to charge via the Nomad Solar Panel charger?

      They all either charge in the wall or in the panels. I haven't seen every single flip but every one I have seen has both a USB and a USB C port

    The charging speed of the flip 10 is still 1 Ampere

    What about rain showers? How does the open plug cope with water?

    • @stevenaubin3362
      @stevenaubin3362 3 года назад

      No you would have to use a cable to allow you to cover any cell your powering elsewhere. Only the panels are waterproof.

    There is no data showing how efficient it is during hiking (on the move). If I have to sit all day and track the sun, it is practically useless for me.

    I bought a nomad 5. I have a 'rugged' phone with a 13000 mAh battery, which is big. I immediatley tried it out as it was quite sunny (UK). After around 3 hours, I had gained 3% (of a bloody big battery - about 12ish percent on yer toy phones). I then opted to take it indoors and try it out on the windowsill. Now, a 'feature' of the nomad 5 is that it stops charging if the level of light drops, which raised an eyebrow when ordering (because basically it stops working if the light drops, as it would, duh!||), but I trusted that they knew what they were doing. Hmm...When you plug a phone in to charge - it beeps and tells you it is charging, right? And when you unplug it too. It did this so often that it actually drained the battery more than just leaving it unplugged. Vastly. As well as bloody annoying me with all the bloody beeping. It lost 13% in 4 hours.
    I'm sure that this is great for passivly trickle charging a not often used power bank over time, such as the flip series, but for direct charging it is absolutely useless. Unless you live in the Sahara. I will buy a flip power bank, a small one, and combine the two, but if that is ineffective then I will have no real choice but to say that this is too small and low powered to be of any practical value whatsoever. The experiment continues...but a charger that depletes the battery is not what I was looking for! Surprisingly. Conclusion so far - overhyped shit - how much did they have to bribe these reviewers?

      you get much better results charging a phone from a battery pack, which is getting juiced from a solar panel. going directly into a solar panel with your smartphone has never been a good option, ever. this is why they have pass-through charging on the Flip battery packs

      Lol, use a power bank bro. I don't have the nomad 5 but I have the nomad 10 and it's fine. If you live anywhere but a desert use a power bank. If you live anywhere where it rains or gets cloudy, use a power bank. Hope this helps.

    I bought a flip36 for use on a section hike. Wish I’d paid better attention to the packaging. I’m not even going to bother charging it, nor am I going to put effort into composing a comment explaining why I’m going to go to staples to get something else. If you are an engineer or designer for this company, please go in the bathroom, splash some water in your face, look in the mirror, and think hard about the life choices you’ve made until now. It’s not too late to try a different career.

    Horrible product. Left it to charge for three days. Nothing happened. If you’re a hiker/backpacker and you’re depending on something to keep lifesaving equipment such as a tiny little emergency sos transponder, this thing will ensure you will never have your gear working.

    For the same price you can get 10x the charging and battery capacity. Overpriced junk.

      victory_or_valhalla look up rav power on amazon. This is only 5 watts and is $60 bucks. Add their battery back and that is $25 and is only 3350 mAh. You can get a 10,000 mAh battery for only $20.
