On the rear bottom side of the air filter housing there is a tuna-can shaped catch can that filters out particulates before they can clog the filter. That's why the air intake is shaped the way it is- to be a cyclonic prefilter. Make sure to empty it out frequently, especially since you live in a desert environment.
I would love to get an old Landcruiser like that. Are you a mechanic or just mechanically inclined? I feel I'd have a lot to learn in order to make ownership affordable. Just subscribed. Looking forward to seeing it come together!
I used to be a professional auto mechanic for Jaguar/Land Rover, but you don't need to be! I started working on cars with zero knowledge when I was younger and Toyota is a great platform to start with imo. Learning and making mistakes are what makes you better and more confident 🤙
Just found your posts today and liked and subscribed. I just started a 97 Land Cruiser project up in Dallas. Has factory lockers and 203k miles. Your presentation is excellent and your camera person is doing a great job too. I also am having ABS CEL issues and I really appreciate the ABS triubleshooting details you show. Keep up the great job.

I just used some brake/carb cleaner!
Penetrating oil will save you a lot of potential head aches with old rusted bolts.

@@motor.mausGarage Thanks so much! I’d love to get a decent 100 Series and slowly make it into a low key but totally capable Beast!
