Terrible reaction from the Australian crowd, I gotta say. Djokovic is probably the fiercest competitor in tennis history and would never give up a tennis match of such importance if it weren't serious.
Huge probs to Zverev for standing up for Djokovic at the post match interview though, what a class act.

You should not blame the Australian crowd as a WHOLE. Djokovic got a standing ovation by the majority of the spectators. The "bo'ers" were a minority, though their behaviour is of course a scandal.

For an ambitious person, it's actually much harder decision to quit a match in order to continue playing in the futuren than going all out. One of many prudent choices by Djokovic which enables him to stay on top for so long a time. Remember, he is 38 in May, any serious injury and he might be out of the game for months, maybe a season. Then getting in shape and staying competitive with so many young athletes around is extremely difficult.

Kinda disappointed in Nole, all this hype and this "he's never finished" stuff, and then he ends up retiring after losing the first set... whatever, he still had a great run, but you saw him playing on the edge in this match, and he prolly had less and less chances the more the game went on.

It is competition and sometimes the emotions after loss are too much to handle, so one can say or do things usually he does not say or do. I was wrong and I am sorry for blaming a man who has done nothing wrong this time. I hope Djokovic recovers well and I wish him and his family well. Health and family are some of the most important things in life. I wish to see more matches between Djokovic and Alcaraz, because they produce great contests.

Watching how the players have to slide their legs so far apart so quickly to get to all these incredible corner shots, I’m wondering if Nole should add ballet training to his schedule, which could help him as a last resort. Rugby players in England do ballet core training for extra strength and flexibility. I think it would be better than his yoga. I started ballet at 55 8 years ago. Now I’m stronger than I ever thought possible. Ballet is the most athletic sport on the planet snd works both left right brain. That’s my advice!

Djokovic, you were a great player and we will miss your antics, your tenacity, and tennis definitely needs players like you, controversial, outspoken and not bland like a certain Italian carrot ..but please retire now man.. retiring from a slam semi-final at the end of the first set is just such a kick in the balls to all the tennis fans who were hoping to see a great match, not to mention the people who paid good money to be at Rod Laver arena (or wherever that match was played) today/yesterday. Time to let the younger generation guys battle it out amongst themselves

When you see that even zverev was caught off guard and shocked that the guy quits after losing the 1st set... you can't expect the crowd to feel any different. Djoko would have kept playing had he not lost the first set... and that's not a noble thing to do. Keep playing til you can't. You don't give up cause you realize you don't have a chance. And ppl saying he's injured... sorry but get your eyesight checked... the guy moved better than 20 year old players.
