Jennifer was a terrific player.. gold medal, 3 GS, world number 1. She was never afraid to play anyone, anywhere. She was fearless. She took it to Serena several times. People focus too much on the missteps and perceived loss of potential, rather than the tremendous accomplishments in her second act.
CONGRATS to Jennifer!!! I knew her when she was a kid and she was so positive and friendly. Nice girl. So happy she had a GREAT career. A few bumps along the way but still one of the Best Players Ever. Thanks for making tennis exciting Jennifer. She’s a real inspiration.
she was a child prodigy- to win olympic tennis gold aged 16 is astounding achievement. i do believe she had potential to be the greatest female tennis player in the open era.Jennifer's 1990 season that propelled her to the pinnacle of the WTA Tour at the age of 14, set some records that may never be beaten.she conquered the roland garros junior title, wimbledon doubles title, and single and doubles title at us open, all at the age of 13 when juniors of her age were just making their first steps on the junior circuit. she went on to the pro circuirt (senior) aged 13, and was youngest WTA finalist.
Jennifer Capriati is amazing Champion..even she still teeneger 15 or 16 years old won gold madel in Olympic 1992..beat legendary player Graf in the final.......after lost in world tenis in long time..she comeback...and she is more stroger than before...and 2001..she won 2 Grand Slam titel Australia Open .and France Open..and 2002..she won back to back In Australia Open ...after that she become tobe world no.1....
Thank you for the one that posted this video much appreciated. What a memory, youngest female tennis player to win Gold! Majority of the post are positive this is a positive moment, not sure why the negativity about Jennifer. She may have ruined her career in the beginning she wasn't old enough to have a drivers license or make decisions on endorsements, or who knows play tennis so early. She was placed on the court before turning 14 years old, a kid, not even near the age of an adult. Even if she wanted to start that early remarkably could be a contender; which says it all-that young giving the adults-minus Monica a run for their money. She never should of been allowed on the tour so early. The past blames her Father, it was the WTA that saw a brand new story, that never allowed girls of her age to play yet, only junior tournaments. The final decision to put her on the court that early was the WTA, they should have stopped it, made her wait at least to Monica's age. If Jennifer had been an adult and shoplifted, and was doing drug use, I get the backlash of the public eye. She was a kid, a kid with more money than she knew what to do with and shoplifting think about it, not desperation of needing food, or clothes, whatever she was arrested for, desperate for being a teenager and just having fun, it was a cry for help. She wasn't a druggie, she wasn't a criminal she was a rebellious teenager, trying to find herself. She had that slip, so many labeled her, my gosh let it go. It would of been different if she had been grown, she was a kid. She fought hard to make a comeback, it didn't happen overnight she did it on her terms, yes a legal age that could make decisions and if she was shoplifting over 18, then by all means down her. 'Not saying shoplifting as teenager is excusable' but this girl had no reason too; accept a cry for help. I think I'll suggest to any of the haters watch Jennifer in the 1999 US Open interview mentally it took her awhile to be a contender and I think it wasn't that she didn't have the ability, she had moved on from the past, unfortunately it took her awhile not to care that others hadn't. She'll always be a remarkable story no matter what. Australian Open 2001 when she beat, Seles, Davenport, Hingis, lifted that trophy it was something none of us thought we would ever see, she was in the best shape of her life, not just physically, but mentally!!
Such an extraordinary sports achievement at 16. Mentally and physically she was still growing too, awesome. I was playing Dune and exploring the wonderful new place called the World Wide Web.
Tremendous win for Capriati on clay... she took out Sanchez-Vicario in the previous round. Nobody expected this win... and it's her only win against Graf!

That was just awesome for Jennifer! I'm so glad that nearly a decade later she got to number one!
