The boys from Cold Lake over having a bit of fun, I see. I am, as always, very proud of our RCAF pilots and of the extraordinarily hard-working ground engineering and maintenance personnel. Their teamwork, and the effort they put in is superb! Thank you for posting this video, from northern Alberta, CA.
Cold Lake is beautiful country. Spent a couple weeks in the bush with air cadets out there, back when I was a teenager. Got to see the airshow, and while we were in the bush, they were practicing over our heads! I'm near Comox. There's good flying here, too!
A vicious rotation off the runway straight up into a dirty roll then flying that beautiful old bird like it's a rented dirt bike in the woods. The obligatory high alpha pass done at apparent walking speed across the audience line. Very nice routine.
Clearly this pilot is one of the best…….glad American, and glad we have friends to the north, Cheers to Canada, Cheers Have to add these Canadian pilots are absolutely amazing
Wow! Now that was a performance and a half! Transitions were so smooth. And that take-off! Man, I'm surprised he never struck his exhaust on the tarmac! Superb display, and excellent work as always by yourself, Sir. Thanks again for the share 😊 🫡
He actually explains it in an interview! With the loadout they are greater than 1 to 1 thrust to weight ratio, so it’s physically impossible to tail strike on takeoff at mil power!
Now that's what you call a steep short take off.👏👏..personally, i don't know what all those moves are, but they looked effortless and amazing..its amazing something so deadly could be flown so delicately. Fantastic skills on display by the pilots taking part. Many thanks for sharing the videos.
Thank you for this very, very impressive video- not just the incredible aircraft but showcasing your skill as a videographer. No silly distracting music or chatter. Frankly, the best I have seen. I have been unable to be physically present at an airshow for years now, and this video is very satisfying. You "put on a clinic". Keep up the good work. -- PM
23 years RCAF here, NORAD, Cold Lake, AWACS and back to NORAD, I gotta say, the Hornet always puts on a show. Brilliant work here, and thanks! Cheers to the RCAF Centennial!
What a show!. Not just a high alpha pass, but an inverted high alpha pass with wheels and hook deployed. Amazing take-off. Amazing high G turns and pivots. Aerial ballet at its best. Thanks for posting. Great camera work.
Great stuff DP, has to be one of the best demo flights of a CF-18 showing it's capability that I've ever seen . I think USA pilots are probably under more restrictive air show flight rules, but WOW ! Thanks
Wow that take off maneuver was brilliant you've done it again Dafydd you really are amazing at what you do the traveling the hours thank you it's very much appreciated but these pilots they are absolutely fantastic
Thanks so much! The take off looks like something an amateur might do after some poor training, unintentionally getting everything wrong, stretching the aircraft limits with no regard (crash soon after!). Bring in the Demo' team who know exactly where those limits are at. At 3:40, during the hang in the air (I don't know what the manoeuvre is called), what sort of horizontal speed is the aircraft at? It looks something silly like 20 knots in the zoom, but it surely can't be. Always amazed, always appreicated x
It’s usually called the high alpha pass. Interestingly one of first CF-18 demo pilots Jin the 1980s did a 360 in high alpha which I imagine would have been pretty impressive

Highly skilled Canadian pilots, these guys don't make mistakes

As an aside, it's called the CF-188 in Canada.
Yes but colloquially it's generally referred to as a CF18.
We here in Canada only call it a CF-18. CF-188 is only used on paper.
No words ❤
Thanks for watching 😎👍

WOW! I watched that take off 5 times, bravo very nice flying, beautiful....I hope that jet can fly again after that crazy shit, loved it.
Nice CF-18 Hornet
Holy shit that was beautiful.
The maverick move......nice! 🤙
F/18, a real badass plane.
Close to a tailstrike. What a takeoff!
Pretty good for a legacy Hornet eh? Still world class
Agreed 👌
Holy shit! That takeoff was awesome. Never let it be said there are no real men in Canada!
A layer of paint away from a tailstrike on that take-off!
Yup Mono is different, not really for swimming as you found out. Did you go up the road apiece (395) to Lake Lundy. Wow now that one is beautiful.
Is it better to film with a cloudy background like that, so the scale of the speeds and maneuvers can show better?
Agreed 🎓👍
Holy effing shit!
Ditto.
Oh Can na da...

How can you appreciate a taxieng jet if there are jets that lands and take off like a helicopter?
