  • Little Wood Satyr’s are a small butterfly that is often mistaken for a moth because of its dull colors. They are usually seen fluttering low to the ground on the forest edge or where there is dappled shade. It has a false eyes on the outer margin of its wings to protect itself from bird predators. I begin to see them in flight during early to mid June, and only for a few weeks after. Adults feed on plant sap and aphid honeydew using their curled proboscis. Eggs are laid on grasses that their caterpillars eat.
