If you are a small creator (especially if have less than 1000 subs), you have a better chance of getting picked up by the shorts feed if you upload shorts less than 15 seconds. In fact, 8-12 seconds is usually the sweet spot for a short to land on the shorts feed as long as you post consistently at the same time and have also optimized your title and description.
For larger creators with thousands of subscribers, you can experiment with shorts longer than 30 seconds and up to 59 seconds since your large subscriber base can help with likes and comments to eventually push your longer shorts into the feed.

@@Tajworks You should try a mix of smaller shorts and longer shorts and observe which ones get picked up by the shorts feed.
Better yet, research the topics and titles for your shorts beforehand and filter them on RUclips search by view count to see how long other similarly titled/themed shorts are.
Always study your analytics, particularly the viewed vs swiped away % and the average viewed % of each short
My 30 Second Video went viral and got 60k views and I have only around 260 subs
@@Trexin_Ccp Nice, congrats! Longer shorts (>30s) that have high retention have a greater chance of going viral in addition to being featured on the shorts feed. Also, getting that many views increases your chances of getting picked up multiple times by the shorts feed!
I started to put more focus on Shorts it really helps.

I’d been using more short at this time and it really change my analytics and so I’m growing more subs, also posting shorts video every day helps too.

@@Stupidly_Anonymous5454first press the 15 sec button to 60 sec then you select the video you want to upload then search the song you want to use then it will say record sound for 15sec so then press that button again and it’ll record the sound as long as your short

my shorts did well when it’s over 50 seconds and did terrible when the video is only 30 seconds. i experimented with my videos to see what works best and so far over 50 seconds do pretty well on my channel

I usually do 15 second short but since the game I've been doing the game has been longer since there is more going on so I do the 60 second short but don't usually do all of it
I feel like around 30 seconds is a good length and my videos usually do well.
Whoever is reading DONT give up on your channel. Think about all the hard work that you have already put in. Every youtuber was once in your spot they just kept going. Stay consistent and you will reach your goals. consistent uploads and improvement and some determination is all you need! I am going for 625 subs by the end of March!

Rob, can you make a video asking what makes viewers tap dislike? I'd do it on my own channel but I deal with a lot of hate so I'm nervous. Or heck, if any of you viewers see this, what makes you dislike a video? What aspects drive you to that button?

honestly I don’t recommend using the 60 second option because *cough* attention span is 0% on this app *cough*
But I've read youtube can't fit many ads in small vids so they recommend 10 mins or longer? That's SO long for me, I'm totally new, and heard you can't make much money on short vids either. I'm so confused, but I'll keep trying.
