Many Filipinos don't realize how good we are with languages. I grew up listening to my Mom switching between Tagalog, English, Viasayan and Waray. 4 completely different languages. My Mom could be on the phone for hours with a Family member and I have no idea what they're talking about. I only speak Tagalog and English. Never learned Visayan or Waray
One of the culture shock i had when i visited the Philippines was the traffic, and that nobody respect the pedestrian lines and traffic lights. Total chaos!
My mom talks to me switching in like 3 different languages, luckily for me I grew in the Philippines and I understand her. So to get back at her I use some german words, russian words, Australian and British slang when I sometimes talk to her.
for some reason, filipinos outside the Philippines are ashamed that they speak Tagalog...I,ve encountered so many filipinos who Denys speaking it but you can clearly tell that they do.
Not all Filipinos but some feeling social outside Philippines. I don't know why some filipino ashamed to speak tagalog but many foreigners wanted to learn speak tagalog because it's unique and cool taglish
That's kind of sad. I mean, why would you be ashamed of speaking your language? If they continue like this they are gonna kill their language, if they haven't already, smh...
Lol i think it’s the Filipinos in the Philippines who are ashamed to speak Tagalog. They’d rather speak English than their own language. They even mix English with their own language which is confusing af.They even try so hard to have that American accent. Lol go ahead and search for Filipino videos on RUclips and see what I’m talking about. Filipinos outside the Philippines speak English because they grow up with it
To add to pointing w/ the lips: you can tell distance also by how hard the pucker, the head toss and how wide they open their eyes. If it's close then it's just a little bit but if it's far away it's more dramatic. Also, how they say "dere". If it's close then it's, "Ober dere". If it's futher then it's, "Ah - ano - ober DEEEYYYERE!!!". 😂 Married to a Filipina for 10 years. For the first 5 I thought "kahina" meant hello because that's what everyone said when you first walked into their house. As soon as I walked in the door one of my ex's aunties would grab me by the arm, walk me to the stove and just start lifting lids.
I came across Culture Shock #2 when watching a Philippine television game program in the early 2000s called 'Game Ka Na Ba?'. The host was dropping trivia questions in a bilingual Philippine-English combination. One part of the question was Tagalog while the other was in English. That was fascinating.
You’re right. That’s part of the process if you’re migrating to another country. You have to learn how to manage and integrate yourself with the new culture. Moving to Canada a few years ago brought so much challenges especially if you’re about to learn a new language, French which is much challenging than learning English. Good luck! 🍀😃
Most Filipinos only eat 3 meals a day. Anything in between is just a quick snack and not necessarily considered a meal. I know because i am a Filipino.
I love speaking our language Tagalog, specially the makalumang mga salita as if nasa panahon ka pa ng mga Kastila... Hahaha... Ipagpaumanhin nyo ang nais ko lang namang maipabatid ay napakahalagang manatili ng Pambansang Wika nating mga Pilipino dahil para sa akin Tagalog ang Pinakamagandang Wika....
My mom used to tell me, "wag kang nagtuturo baka ma-nuno" which means, "don't point your fingers, you might point at mystical creatures." and so if I point my fingers, I have to bite it. Now, I only point with my lips or my closed fist lol.
In my Italian family it’s the same for meals. There’s breakfast, then a morning merenda (merenda di metà mattina), lunch, afternoon merenda, dinner, and then a smaller snack (I usually eat chips, but often I skip it)
Thank you brada. I'm deeply in love with a pinay in Leyte. I've been to Cebu 3 times. I love it. I also love the filipino people. I'm keeping your channel.
It is so sweet looking out there like with the trees the mountains the buildings and the spaces between hot and humid maybe I don't know wow looks fun out there I saw the beach earlier on RUclips is there like a lot of pearl diving or any type of diving or water swimming diving jobs without a scuba gear?
Just came across this video. Are you an expat from the U.S. living in the Philippines? Your accent was throwing me off. For me, it’s the automatic mouth cover when the ladies laugh. 🫢
that is hilarious. I have a Puerto Rican man at my job that does the lip pointing also so maybe that's a thing in Puerto Ricco also... at first i thought he was making kissing gestures at people than I caught onto it soon after lol
6 meals a day? Where do I sign up? Fun fact, I’m engaged to a beautiful Filipina (I meant) lady, her country means love and her name is Nimfa 😁😁😂😂🥰🥰😘😘😘
Being American, it’s so disrespectful to ask you to pass the salt by pointing with her lips. No words, not even a thanks. My answer is, I don’t speak lip.
I don’t really like it when people tries to mimic the Filipino accent and exaggerate it. I don’t care if you’re a Filipino who lives in abroad. Another new yorker in tondo.
What do you mean "mimics the Filipino accent"? People who haven't lived or were born in the Philippines have that kind of accent when speaking Tagalog, especially Americans or people who lived in America. I don't quite get what you mean.
Every excersion from the dominating White/ British culture and one race or country thinks they do that thing the most. Sounds like stuff a lot of Asia does to me.
I called it a snob, when they dont speak the language. Especially when they born pilipino. Most of the rich children they dont speak tagalog, probably the parents are snob, they prepared to let their children speak in English than their own mother language. What a shame really. If you learn to speak in different languages that would be great. But this pilipino kids especially the well off one I feel sorry for them that they're parents are the one who denies them to speak the language tagalog. CALLED IT SNOBBERY.

I got used to the Filipinos raising their eyebrows as a "Yes" response... hehe
😂
Yes that’s another one, the first time I didn’t catch it but they also do it with the same accent.
The things I’m learning from the comments
Hahaha
bro i do that to say "hi"
as a filipino this are true especially the language switching from tagalog to english also we often just raise our eyebrow instead of saying yes
The lip pointing is also a Hispanic thing (or at least in Columbia) some of my family members and I do this
Very true!
eet obur dare awraydee!
just say it like its english.
5 or 6 means a day and don't have the obesity problems like many other countries. Amazing
Culture shock, they're 1000xtimes friendlier to people in the Philippines than the USA.
Its called taglish when you grew up having english as your first language and learn tagalog with your tropa
You are so right.
Trust me we eat just as much in the u.s but we call it brunch early dinner and late night snacks 😋
