Neymar has taken his passing and playmaking abilities to levels with the very best passers in the game in recent seasons. I’ve cut down all Neymar’s matches since his first game for Barcelona countless amounts of times and I noticed a dramatic change between 2014/15 and 2015/16 in his gameplay. In his 2015/16 season he brought in a new playmaking dynamic to his game that we didn’t see often in previous seasons and since that season he has taken his playmaking abilities to new heights with each season and gives fans another reason to turn on the TV and watch Neymar’s ever growing talent.
I remember in 14-15 he was much more of the ruthless finisher of chances. He had the trademark run when Messi cut in with the ball and would clip it over the fullback for Neymar. His finishing was unreal in the champions league. I believe when Messi went down injured for 2 months and Neymar took the mantle of the team he could never go back to what he was doing before when Messi came back to fitness. Playmakers are so rare and the best thing to watch on a football pitch. It was too much to ask of Neymar to go back to making runs with Suarez for Messi. I understand his PSG move better and better I really enjoyed 14-15 Neymar though. His ruthlessness in front of goal was something I really admired and I do think he has lost some of that
He’s always been a playmaker. Watch his games for Santos and Brasil. The thing is, when he went to Europe he was forced to stay only on the left wing, because the playmaker role was already filled by messi, xavi and iniesta. Now at PSG he can show his amazing vision and passes
