You seem like a good dude and a great friend. Ronnie suffers from PTSD as a result of being in prison for two and a half years. I have seen a few interviews with him and it is really helpful hearing him talk about things that have happened to him - worth checking out. His lyrics are very personal. And damn good. I suffer from depression and relate to this because you get trapped in trying to find help and get none so you try to hide it, but at some point you could easily break. I hide my stuff because you do look for help but never get it. So the name of the song "Popular Monster' for me suggests that while recognising he and the band is popular we don't truly know about the demons inside. Thanks TooBlunt and buddy!
Finally a reactor that acknowledged the "crash my car just to feel again" verse! Great reaction video. PLEASE react to their new SUPER HIT "Watch the World Burn"! "Popular Monster" was my favorite until the new song. The song and video are incredible!
I watched your friend the whole time. You could see this really struck a chord with him...I think he blinked like 3 times the whole video! This was a wonderful reaction.
As someone who has been battling depression and anxiety for 30+ years and had everyone tell me to just snap out of it and I'll be ok. This song definitely hits the nail on the head and I just wanted to take the time to say that I truly appreciate how sincere you are about this song and people who are going through things. I respect the hell out of you both for saying that you keep from giving people a hard time because you never know what they are going through. More people need to be like that. Thank you
You guys looked overwhelmed when he went into beast mode, fright, freeze or fight. When in that space. You're right you feel like a monster, there's no help. No hope. And thank you for recognizing formally undiagnosed peeps, health systems failing them, all over the world. You're not going too deep 🌻 it's good that music challenges us too search sometimes, Ronnie is deep, his music is deep. Swim in it! 😅 watching from southern New Zealand. One of my faves songs too 😊
I like how your friend said Ronnie's daughter hadn't been "contaminated" by this world or life. That's a very explicit word picture of what happens as we grow older. All the shit we go through growing up is infinitesimal and it can really bring you down. I feel for your friend. I've been there myself.
This is my favorite video of yours so far. I agree with everything you were saying. Get deep more often. Do that as a monthly video. I would love to hear more of your thoughts
Just made me think about how the therapist was telling him he was going through a phase and in the video his therapist is listening to Ronnie and then the therapist called the authorities. Someone was begging for help and the therapist said "it's just a phase" but when the lack of help has taken its toll and they're at their limit the "helper" stopped trying to help and tried to get rid of the problem. A lot of mentally ill people don't get help and end up turning into "monsters" when it just got too hard for them to hold themselves together. Imagine if you turned into a actual monster then it all became overwhelming but the only people who know are unwilling to help but still make a profit by telling you its fine. This music video really makes me want t make a movie.
Your conversation brought back a High School memory for me. One of my friends used to always always tell me to be happy, cheer up, don't be so down, and did his best to make me laugh. We always got along great and he always wanted me in a good mood. I was so depressed in High School, but I had some good memories with this friend. To this day I will never understand why he committed suicide when we were Sophomores. The one that always tried to cheer me up. I'll never know what happened, but I learned to appreciate friends more and that sometimes those that try to help you actually need help too. 💓
Ronnie actually wrote this song about his own depression; how hard it actually is for him that so many in society see him as a "liar, a cheater, a non-believer". Being told those things often enough was making him feel terrible about himself and pushing him toward being the monster so many saw him as. Ronnie ended up getting the help he needed, but that is where inspiration for the song came from. His daughter was always the one to ground him. She gives him a reason to see the light and bring him back to okay. I think she is the love that he falls into and it gives him the ability to "fall apart" and let it all out so he can be stronger for her.
I LOVE that you started lip syncing along. Just shows you really enjoy this song and have listened to it on your own time. I feel like reactors like music and praise it but then never listen to it again.
Great conversation guys. My son is a teen and was just coming home from the hospital when this song came out. It was his anthem for awhile. I still love this song. He has been called a Monster for many yrs and it hurts him still. Glad it got you to finally talk about this together. Being friends all this time and never talking about it is like getting used to seeing a scar there and not asking how you got it. I'm glad you finally talked. :)
This whole thing was fantastic with some great insights and real talk throughout. It was good to see you pick the 'Crash my car' line. Many people don't appreciate just how deep it goes to be numb rather than feeling this way. Keep it 💯
Another great reaction. I'm glad to see people like you spreading awareness about mental health issues. There are so many people out there that can benefit from a kind word or be hurt by a cold shoulder. Thanks for sharing.
OMG, your face when it looked like he was going to smash (lol!). Good insights, especially on being beaten down by someone or something on every attempt to do better.
I love how you both understand and can explain videos like this to give a new perspective that someone might not have seen before. Always a pleasure watching your videos
I love how you guys are talking about a lot of deep issues and different perspectives with this song. I never get tired of this song because it resonates with me. If you guys like, I have a list of other really great songs that I would love to see your reactions and comments on, and across multiple music genres. Stay strong, keep smiling and keep your heads held high guys!

Hilarious story time! Couldn’t help but to laugh since u two did and just reminded me of me and my best friend. Just laughing about old times, good or bad it’s just fun looking back 😂 Haha! But anyways lovely reaction to the song and video! Wish you guys a lovely weekend! 🥰
You actually aren’t going to deep…I think you covered the trilogy too, but that was Ronnie’s whole point, the fear of addiction and mental health issues being cyclical within families and how his daughter keeps him grounded, yet he fears passing things on to her❤️
Wow! Great video you guys! Your camaraderie is everything 🙌 Subbing so I can be part of it. Keep doing you! Edit: It seems that everyone in the comments is requesting the trilogy and the Vampire song. I think you should check out "The Drug In Me Is You" re-imagined. Now that one hits you. Anyways, I'm happy to have found you guys and I'm looking forward to seeing your other content.
This song hits hard for me because of my history of depression, anxiety and suicide attempts going back to the 3rd was my first attempt and first time I was institutionalized in a mental hospital so I know what it’s like to be locked up,I’ve been in straight jackets and other restraints and been forcibly drugged
@@ChanelStuff I’ve been attacked by bigots many times throughout the past 3 decades, but I’ve fought since the mid 90’s when it came out as bisexual wearing nail polish and makeup and being attacked everyday by the jock types and called a fagot and freak everyday
This song resonates with me. After a permanent back injury, being diagnosed with incurable cancer a few weeks later, and then losing my job...well I felt useless and angry. The therapist they made me go to only gave me advice on breathing exercises and told me I was fine. It still comes back sometimes, but I've gotten thru it alone and have accepted the constant pain and expiration date. Thanks for covering a great song again and pointing out the meaning 👍
My prayers to you my friend, I cant even imagine what you are going through, but know that you are not alone. Miracles happen all the time, God Bless You
