@@ErikD71 Well, that was an excellent request, Erik! 👏👏👏 They are so good at getting suggestions on! Supertramp is such a fabulous group, in my opinion. They loved both songs - that's 2 for 2! "Goodbye Stranger" & "Give A Little Bit" are a little more well known but if it gets a bunch of "likes" I'm certain they will hit it! 🎵❤️

Rico & Crys - That was a clarinet solo - I believe the first time you've had one. They are rare! That was the first instrument I picked up to learn how to read & play music from my Grandfather's collection. He was a Big Band Leader in the 50's & early 60's. It became my "main" instrument for 8 years - though he taught me several others. When he passed away he left me his trumpet & clarinet. Part of me wishes I was given all of his instruments but that's very selfish of me. I'm truly am grateful. I allowed my daughter (his Great Granddaughter which I named after his wife) to carefully use it in band class for 3 years. How proud he would be!

Supertramp is a prolific band... cracked me up with I played "Breakfast in America" in front of my Gen Z girlfriend and she thought that they lifted the "take a look at my girlfriend" line from some new hip-hop band she listens to ... I was like "Baby, this came out in 1979, 10 years after this band formed"
This song always reminds me being a kid/teen in the 80s, the local outdoor skating rink played it alot, i could even hear it from my house if you were outside.
Such a nostalgic feel. Reminds me of the summer between junior and senior high. Doing a whole lot of nothing before getting a real job and heading into high school.
Thanks for this honest reaction to a Supertramp song. I have no doubt they are from the greatest and more respected bands ever. I think you will like Dreamer, It's raining again and Goodby Stranger :-) Regards from Chile!
This song was recorded at a time when Supertramp could do no wrong, they recorded four wonderful albums in a row. Unfortunately after that things did begin to go downhill a bit, Breakfast in America was a fantastic achievement, and one of their very best albums.
I know and it was crazy (pun intended) but when you put out Crime of The Century( a true rock classic album) that early, it had to be down hill from there ...LOL :) Peace and love

Great band.Very original sound. If you haven't done " The Logical song" check it out when you guys find the time.It would be the logical thing to do. Have a great day!
A man who failed to make it in Hollywood, his life is tough, the wife is frustrated, and then time gets away from them. That's the reaction I get from this great song.
I've had the "Breakfast In America" CD for 25 years, and still play it often today...All the songs are just on another level...every track could've been a radio hit then--or now. "Take the long way home" is one of the prettiest, but self-agonizing tunes I've ever heard...Niiiiiice pick, Reckless!!
Glad you got to reacting to Supertramp. One of the best bands of the time with a very unique sound. They had 4 top 100 hits off of this album. Another of my personal favorite tracks is Lord Is It Mine. Be awesome if you reacted to it.
I have a totally different take on this song. I first heard it while working in Saudi Arabia as a 20 something year old young man. I was a looooong way from home. Prior to working overseas I'd always considered myself just a part of the scenery, but now I was playing a part in a movie show. As another lonely day became another lonely night, I'd sit on a rise looking across the empty blackness at the city lights in the far, far distance. Later in life I'd relate to "when you look through your life and you see what you could have been", not that I hadn't experienced some incredible years. But there were many years abroad. I wasn't around. Looking back, I think I might have done a few things differently. Great song, gave solace to me as young man alone in a far away land, as well as later in life. To this day, when I'm fortunate to hear it again, it brings back very introspective memories of the empty vastness of those Arabian nights! For reference, I'm now 65.
You will really enjoy, CANNONBALL. The electric foreplay and intermingled poetry of the musicians is devastating. Great rhythm, emphasized and punctuated by tge usual relationship nonsense. This album, BREAKFAST IN AMERICA is the pinnacle of Supertramp as a band. To back this up CHILD OF VISION is their greatest track. Enjoy.
Cannonball is one of my favourites, from a great slightly underrated album. For me Crime of the Century was their best work, BIA coming a close second.
Love me some Supertramp! check out the art work on that album cover. Brilliant. The waitress is the Statue of Liberty and the New York city skyline is all restaurant equipment.
I think your interpretation of "taking the long way home" because you don't really want to go home is one way of thinking about it, but I also think it can be about someone who took the road less travelled - who didn't do what was expected of them, but at the end of the day they realize that they really want to be "home"
I've always assumed he was a performer and in the beginning of the song he's talking about how he walks along life and doesn't really notice things like the greenery and his wife ignores him so he's happier on the road because the fans make him feel appreciated. But , like everyone else in this world there's never enough time to do everything you want to and you wake up one day realizing your older and life slipped by and you never accomplished your dreams. Those were my favorite lines Too..."When you look through the year's and see what you might have been, oh what you could have been, if you'd had more time !! (Always made me sad ). Those lyrics are so true of life for us all... The older I become, ( now in my 60s). The stronger my faith is and I feel that I am where I am because experiences in life make you change your direction and God puts you where he needs you. I'm more at peace now knowing that! Thanks for your video's. You two are wonderful. ❤️

If you want to listen to one of the most amazing songs featuring a harmonica and piano listen to Times of Trouble by Temple of the Dog. Another amazing vocal performance by Chris Cornell and really great song with a tough subject matter. Footsteps by Pearl Jam is another harmonica classic. It was the first song Pearl Jam wrote together. Eddie Vedder at his best.
