- Walks through the full unboxing, installation and set up of a new Orbit b-hyve Smart Sprinkler Timer including setting up the b-hyve app and programing the new timer.
Most of my videos are about machining, welding or knife making. This was just one of those shop projects that needed to get done.
Thanks for watching! - Хобби

I love mine 2 years now
fxrsniper1 - Thanks for the comment. Coming up on a year with mine and still loving it as well. So easy to adjust my programs for the seasons.
Awesome. Thanks
@dennishendry2543 - Glad it was helpful. Appreciate the comment.
To add a zone you need to select zones then slide the six initial zones to the left and tap on new zones, you can take pictures and name
them, then go to programs and choose edit to add the zone with the rest. I had three valves connected to the same zone but the device could not
drive them I had to run a new line to one of the valves
@transformer889 - Thanks for the comment. Sounds like you got yours all sorted out and operational, congrats!
Nice one thanks
abdelouahid el haddadi - Appreciate the comment, glad it was helpful.
Thanks brotha!
Jesse Brown - Happy to help. Thanks for the comment.
It makes life easier!
I jave yhe same 12 zone system. But one day, the system never stopped watering. Like the system never got the sognal to stop. Now even in manual does the same thing.
@ivancruz54 - Yikes! That could waste a lot of water. Glad you got it stopped. Sounds like time to replace that unit. Thanks for the comment.
I have a very old manual Rainbird, 6-zone controller and have purchased a 12-zone B-Hyve (as the 6-zone was not available for months). Is installation possible for a 12-zone and not using the other 6 zones ?
Cathy Moriarty - I am not enough of a true expert to give you a 100% answer. However, I don’t see any reason why it would not work. The 12 zone unit should not care if you only plug in 6 zone wires instead of 12. And you can definitely program it to run as few zones as you want. Thank have 1 program that only runs 1 zone on a regular basis. So other than the extra cost up front I can’t think of any other reason this would not be fine. Like buying a 4 pole light switch and then only using one of them. The other 3 would not care. Hope this helps get you going.
@@BladesIIB Thank you for the quick response. I'll give it a try.
Just bought the Bee Hive and I'm not real computer savvy so this helps a lot, however didn't hear you say you hooked a common. can you let me know if possible.
Jack Suttles - Congrats on the new timer. Apologies for not mentioning the common wire, my system does have one yes. It is the white wire I hook up first. You can see it in the video from about 7:30 through 8:10. Hope that helps. Good luck getting your system all set up.
So, if I want my sprinklers to run at 2:00 am, and again at 8:00 am, do I have to set up two separate "programs?"
Robert Nowell - You are correct, at least that is my understanding. I want 2 ten minute intervals and that is 2 programs. A is 10 minutes per zone and B is 10 minutes per zone set to start at a time after Program A is complete. Then very easy to change and adjust the days for program A and B as needed for different times of the year. Thanks for the question, I hope that gets you going.
Do you leave the rain sensor jumper cable in mate?
@alexsallery - Yes, unless you are attaching your own rain sensor you will leave the jumper in place. The great thing about the B-Hyve is you can connect it to a nearby weather station via the app and I don’t use my own sensor. It knows the weather and automatically goes into delay mode for rain, freezing, wind etc. hope that helps, thanks for the question. And huge fan of Jack Jack, have had a little one in my car hanging from the grab handle since the first movie came out. 😁
@@BladesIIB thanks mate! I'm nearly done setting up the app now so I'll add the weather station in!
Haha my little boy looks exactly like him, if only I looked like Mr Incredible 😂😂
Hey no lunch breaks allowed!! 😂😂😂😂
Man’s gotta eat! 😂😂
Can you do an update on the product?
@VistaSergy - As for an update, I have been using this for about 2.5 years now with no issue at all. App seem to stay updated and product has worked flawlessly for me. I have a couple of other water/temperature sensors from B-Hyve as well and they all work in the same app. Good products.
Hi, Where Is Gonna Be Connected The
Sprinkler Pump ???
After I removed Intermatic Timer
What I need to do ???
Thank a You.
-MEJOR-QUE-NOSTRADAMUS- Thanks for the question. For my application I am only using this as the valve timer. My sprinkler system does not have a separate pump. On the wiring panel it does have a Pump connection as well as a 24v output for a signal wire. I have not used these but it appears the timer is capable of sending a signal to turn a pump on and off. I would recommend you review the manual or maybe someone else has a video using it with a pump application. Sorry I can’t provide a better answer for you.
@@BladesIIB Thank You My Friend.
@@-mejor-que-nostradamus-6152 anytime.
Hi, I watched the video. I noticed you worked without hooking anything up to the power. (1st slot to left/ yellow). Did I miss that? My old power connection is different than the new orbitz
John Buckeye - You did not miss it I did not use those connections. My understanding is this has the ability to power a pump and the 24volt signal connection to turn a pump on and off. For my application I am just using g this as a timer to operate the valves in my zones. The unit plugs into the wall for the power to operate. If you need to power a pump for your application you will need to consult the manual or see if you can find someone who has it set up that way. Sorry I don’t have more details to offer for that setup.
@@BladesIIB yes. I realized it later on. My fault. My apologizes
@@johnbuckeye9590 No problem at all. Glad you have the info you need.
@@BladesIIB so on my old. Sunbird sprinkler system they had like 24 hour connection and on the Orbitz there is the same thing. Any idea what that is for?
@@johnbuckeye9590 Was out of town. Finally had a chance to look into your question. I don’t have 24 hour I do have a 24VAC or 24 volt output. My understanding is this is a low voltage signal output to activate a relay to operate a valve or other piece of equipment. I think the pump connection would be similar to initiate the relay for a pump. The 24v would be an accessory in addition to the pump. Hope that helps.
orbit b-hyve not showing wifi signal on the top left only bluetooth blinking, do no what will be the problem, I tried resetting paring but no luck yet, also rebooted everything. got wifi extender setting next to timer still not wifi signal on top left by bluetooth.Any help will be appreciated
Jaswinder Nijjar - Thanks for the question. I found this video from Orbit that goes through the steps. First you need to connect with your phone. Then go through the steps on your phone from within the app to connect the unit to your Wi- Fi. I hope this helps. ruclips.net/video/M4ZSh23esrY/видео.html
@@BladesIIB I have done all that, but not connecting at all. Thanks for quick response
@@jaswindernijjar3801 Welcome. Sorry I can’t be more help.
I can't believe he didn't patch the holes in the wall before putting the board up. Painting the board is either or but not fixing the holes? That's criminal
@StephenB2005 - Smooth Criminal, I did patch the holes, I put a board over them 😂😂. Joking aside, I appreciate the feedback. Could have been done better. I prefer metal work as you may see with the rest of the channel. If the wall was metal, I would have welded them right up. Non metal filler I did not have handy. I will do better next time. Thanks. 😁
I heard you saying "it's got Bluetooth". Tought this model is only connected through WiFi...
MartinFrederick Graafland - When I go in the app on my phone and click the wireless icon in the top left Control Via Bluetooth is one of the options. I have never used it since the WiFi works fine but it seems to be an option.
Hello, do you accept business cooperation? About testing our smart sprinkler controller and making a video for us.
@Kathy0118 - That is not something I have done before, I would be interested in exploring what that may look like. You can contact me through my website www.BladesIIB.com and we can follow up from there. Thanks!
to be clear u can program manually AT THE DEVICE nailed to the wall...there simply is no good instructions from B-hyve and what there are are confusing as hell .......as the blogger above states....a lot of people don't use the cell phone app. So why doens't B-hyve put out some halfway decent instructions. They invented the thing, surely they could get an intern to publish a spiffy little how to. Lots of complaints about customer service......first timers i suggest looking at other pdts.
@timkoss1029 - Thanks for the clarification about the "Functionality" to manually program, vs. the "Instructions" to actually be able to do it. And yes, I have seen a lot of comments about their customers service. Appreciate your comment. To me the real power of this unit is the wi-fi, no need for an additional weather station since it reads online and I love the app. If not using those features, I am sure there are a lot of other options out there.
@@BladesIIB it would take about 15 minutes for an intern to compose a comprehensible set of instructions to manually program the B-hyve with out the app.
@@timkoss1029 Sounds good, maybe Orbit will get the memo and make that happen. 🙂
STRONGLY SUGGEST ..put a pillow under ur install area..these controllers don't bounce
@timkoss1029 - Sounds like an interesting story behind that comment. Hope you got yours all sorted out. Thanks for the comment.
B-Hyve customer service is the absolute worst. I had a problem installing the timer and instead of calling me back, as an email from them told me they would, they refused to call and instead texted me ... at no faster than a 45-min. response time. After sending them photos of how I wired the timer, a representative finally said he had a team run a double-check (which he said was fine even though it wasn't) and after reviewing the data and looking at the problem again, they decided the unit was defective and that I should return it for another one. I brought in a professional installer who explained that neither the manual nor the few texts that I received from the company addressed the obvious problem. He rewired it correctly and now it works. Despite several requests to Orbit to speak with a manager, no one has gotten back to me. Worst. Service. Ever.
Mark Zacharia - Thanks for the comment. I guess I am fortunate I never had to try and contact them. Glad to hear someone was able to get your unit working for you. Thankfully their products are better than their customer service. I hope your unit serves you well. Mine has been doing great for a couple of summers now. Take care.
@@BladesIIB Thank you. In the spirit of full disclosure, I did let them know I would be posting on social media if they chose not to get back to me.
@@Amastermagician That seems fair. This is meant to be an educational channel so I have no issue with you sharing your personal experience.
Orbit spinklers have typical problems that after warranty you will have an error messages NO AC and system will not start. No support form ORBIT staff and only one information is that you can buy a new one or send you to "repair" with probably cost of new one. So ORBIT spinkler = working time 2 years or little more if you are lucky. I hardly disrecomend this brand.
Mine is over a year and going strong. I guess time will tell how it holds up. Thanks for the comment.
this crap dont work...
@reidnix - Bummer, maybe you got a bad one. I am sure they come with some kind of warranty? Mine is a few years old and still working great.
@@BladesIIB lol...i was pissed. still nothing works. i have new pump and new orbit manifold. pump wont turn on, then does not prime. maybe i replace the pipe back valve that is 100 ft away. what is the definition of prime? water in the pump and pvc pipe... will let you know...thanx
@@reidnix I get it. Definitely frustrating when new stuff does not work like it is supposed to. All the best. Hope you get it running.
@@BladesIIB my new pump will not prime. i think because it needs 220 volts because the water line is 100ft. but the orbit works only on 115. go figure...lol
@@reidnix I am just using mine as the timer and not to power the pump so did not have to sort through that part of it. Hope you get yours sorted.
