that short "Didn't We almost have it All" snippet, at the beginning, was just sublime. Her voice was so beautiful and mature here. God bless Whitney; always in my heart.
her voice is so full and strong. no voice breaks or cracks, head voice sounds clear and powerful and her runs!!! tdf. So in my opinion her voice is simply amazing.
This is what's called TALENT! Whitney was/is/will be the proof of real talent. She could take so easily one single song to a different various dimensions and still make it sound beautiful if not better than older ones. We do miss you Whitney E. Houston ! Music Industry needs artists like this not trash like most of today's.
I personally think this was a very good performance. Of course not the 90's version but yer still a great performance done with the up most class. She still sounds better than most today!
My take to she performed very well. she is human and people forget we all make choices in life some good and some bad , and we ask God to forgive us he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, he then throws our sin in the sea of forgetfulness this is for those who think they have never sinned and casting stones , I love Whitney‘s performance however she delivers it.
In every live version of this song I have watched, they are all different. She changed it up all the time. She really was a beautiful talent. 7:30 on is a great example.
To answer all your questions, it wasn't the fact that whitneys voice went in 2005. She had no healthy voice from 2000 onwards. She simply would have held back on the cigs and trained when she knew she had shows to do. Watch her perform on my own in 2003, it's bad, which shows that she hadn't trained or held back on cigs in prep. 2004 she started to get her voice back though but went back to it all, u can tell cause her speaking voice is clear here. If 2010 whitney stopped smoking she would have got Her voice back.
you know I hadn't a clue her voice had been unhealthy and lost before mid or later 2000 year until I watched videos of early 2000-2003 performances which made me very sad she'd also had lost her ability to speak clearly her speaking voice was almost completely gone by 2005 I damn near cried
+Jimmy McCormick yeah, essentially her voice began to decline in 1996, although things didn't get to bad till around 2000 onwards, like she could still, sing but she lost her tone and struggled to sustain notes around 1997/1998. Her voice healthier for a short period in 2004, where she did a few good concerts but 2005 was a bad year for her and it just went.
+BillysVidTime agreed and the fact she actually went back to drugs in 2009 didn't help much because her voice was picking up and getting stronger her CD was good but very well edited on ever song. her voice would've have been 100 percent but we would've had part of her back and she would have felt more confident in herself. I couldn't imagine how sad and devastated she was on the inside because she knew she couldn't sing as she use to in the past
+Jimmy McCormick if she had just quit smoking things would have changed they was the main part to her voice decline. She had 1985-1995 of natural vocal maturity, then things declined from smoking. If she had quit smoking she would have gotten to at least 1996/98 Whitney, as her voice would have cleared up and she would be able to breathe better. Like her voice would never go to Whitney in 93/94 at her prime but wouldn't be too far off if she managed it
+BillysVidTime You are right the drugs didn't make it any better she'd started having health problems, including with her heart and breathing problems as well. I think before her past her manager was pushing her too too hard
I know... I have been trying to find out what happended after 04 Beijin concert. Because it's just hard to believe her voice was gone right after that. Something must went wrong between 05 and 06. However, I think 09 concert was the greatest killer to her voice. She was so not ready for the 40+ concerts touring... it damaged her voice seriously. She basically lost her register completely after the tour in 10. Anyway, I still LOVE her no matter what :)
She was supposed to, do her last album in 2004, to finish out her 3 album contract with LA Reid, who was the head of Arista records during the time, Clive had left, because she had put out the just Whitney album, which was absolutely fantastic, underrated album, that suffer because of the "Crack Is Wack" interview, then she put out her Christmas Album, and had one more to do, because she was signed to do 3, n she said that it wld be her last EVER, but she refused to do it because of, all of the bad press, from the reality show "Being Bobby Brown", there wasn't anything wrong with her making her last album in 2009, that was an absolutely great album, and it' did number one on the Billboard Hot 100s Charts, for weeks, what she shouldn't have done, what went on tour, because she had chronic COPD, and emphysema at the time, due to heavy cigarette smoking, which is why she could sound like a angel one day, then sound like she got something caught in her throat the next day, and could barely talk, and let alone sing, through all of the coughing and wheezing, yet the ones that are supposed to love her the most, allowed her to go out onstage, night after night, so that they will get paid, forget about what it was doing to her, and she really was sober, during the making of that album and even during the touring part, because she looks out of the country, she couldn't get drugs and South Korea, and Asia, in Australia, she didn't relapse until she got to London, and it was because all of the publicity, from that tour, all they had to do was, found a very good week, where she was taking her steroids, and breathing treatments then had good teeth float, and went on television and did one awesome concert, and it would have sounded like she did on Oprah, and if the VMAs in 2009, and that's why you got her sounding awful in 2010, and really great in 2010, they just won't show those clips, because even in death, they rather humiliate her, then to love her, and that's something I will have never understand.
I have always wondered what she was hurting from in the inside. something definitely had to happen to traumatized her life like this. Think about it, 3 children and all of them were hooked on cocaine/crack??? What the hell went on during their childhood. Just So Sad!!!
And she have five miscarriages, she did not have a bad childhood at all, she had a very rich childhood, which allowed children not only to have more than others financially, but to experience a lot more, then others, because they're not watched all the time, and that could bringing Good and Evil thing
huny im the same im a singer heavily influenced by whitney and the answer to ur question is that around 99 her voice rapidly declined by 2004 she was talk singing meaning shes doesn't sustain her notes she talks them..her vibrato was gone she still had a head a voice but here u can hear that her notes are all cut up not sustained at all....from 2005 her voice was totally gone she had 2 notes left in her register and she got vocal lessons but damage was so severe it was hopeless...
I have to say that I am impressed with her voice at this particular time period. She should have stopped smoking but if you watch the documentary Whitney and Bobby: addicted to love, there it states that Whitney was doing to many drugs and wasn't even thinking about singing and in fact she at times forgot that she was a singer. She is still the voice in my honest opinion and always will be.
Her voice started to decline in 1996. Compare her voice to a 1993 whitney houston and you can tell a huge difference. I personally didn't care if her voice changed because she was still the best with the vocal change. Her voice seem to change every year. 1993 sounded different from 94 as well.
I agree that her voice changed every year, I've said this many times but the 'die-hards' hate me for saying it....I've been a huge fan since '85, but her voice sounded different on each album....there is a massive difference in her voice from her first album in '85 to the Bodyguard in '91, that's not to say her voice wasn't in good shape, if anything it was at its best, BUT it was different.....the 'fans' always post here on RUclips...'oh she had a cold here'.....'oh she was sick here'....they do it all the time, when in actual fact we all know why her voice was in decline...the other defence the 'fans' come up with is 'she was older'....a voice like Whitney's shouldn't change to that extent because of her age, look at Glady's Knight and Shirley Bassey, in their 70's and sounding great....!!!!
I'm a die hard Whitney fan even up to the last album which still sounded amazing seeing the damage that she caused over the years. I read in Cissy book that Whitney had completely lost her voice for quite sometime in 1994. Which had never happened to her before. I think at that point that should have given whitney a warning to stop doing what she was doing. I don't think the drugs caused all of the problems with her voice because Chaka khan and Elton John has both said they probably did more cocaine than whitney and they still sound pretty close to what they did when they were younger. I think the constant cigarette smoking caused the damage along with the back to back concerts in during her younger years. People have said whitney was a chain smoker since 1985. Like Aretha Frank who was a massive chain smoker lost most her her awesome voice because of that but since she has stopped I have seen an improvement in her voice. If whitney would have stopped doing what she was doing I just could imagine how she would sound today!
Whitney Fan look she wanted out ok? diane sawyer interview and oprah interview she said FRANKLY she wasnt THINKING of singing during the whole time she was doing drugs she thought her voice would hang around she was gullable and when she wanted her voice back it was too late she didnt appreciate her gift and thats the truth
I even noticed the change from Whitney Houston to I'm Your Baby Tonight. Her voice was still in it's prime, but something was different on IYBT her voice wasn't as polished. Then the Bodyguard her voice was a tad deeper. Then Exhale came and it was so evident something in her voice was changing. But the dead giveaway was the Preacher's Wife, her voice was raspy as ever (but still the greatest). Her voice was constantly changing.
She had chronic COPD and emphysema bad, so on one day you can sound like an angel, the next day you will be wheezing and could barely talk, for trying to sing through that, you do the math
I just don't understand what could have happened in four years, I tried to tell people that drugs did not ruin her voice, her vocal cords were in perfect shape, during her autopsy, however she had both emphysema and chronic COPD, which will make you sound like you're at the top one day, and the next day you will be coughing and wheezing so much you wouldn't be able to make it through a performance, which is why she should have never did that tour, she should have went on television, and did one big concert, like she did for HBO three times
Anybody who is a REAL vocalist knows that drugs (illegal ones) have little effect on your voice (chords and larynx)!! Whitney was a heavy cigarette smoker and EVERY REAL VOCALIST will tell you the ingredients in cigarettes are the killer to the vocal box!! DRUGS KILLED WHITNEY'S BEING, NOT HER VOICE!!
Sorry but you're dead wrong. Smoking crack and Marijuana ABSOLUTELY changes your voice. Snorting cocaine damages tissue in the nose, which is used as a resonator for singing. Even alcohol has long term affects on the chords.
Isiah Copeland true shit. Tons of singers have been hooked on illegal drugs and alcohol but still manage to keep their voices. Smoking weakens the lungs which limits breath support, and it inflames the vocal folds which causes deterioration. That's why old ladies who have smoked for years have such deep voices.
Ive taken coke, lsd, ketamine, thousands of valium and xanax, speed, crack, weed, klonopin, oxycontin, fentanyl, subutex, methadone and heroin and im sure more ive forgotten and none of those things changed my voice apart from morphine which made it sound husky for a while. Whitneys problem was cigs. Its amazing she got off drugs for a while but couldn't quit smokes. Id rather take all those drugs than ever be dumb enough to smoke, i wouldnt even date a smoker i mean whats the fun? Its not like dropping an ecstacy tab and having 10 hours of fun. And yeah drugs are dangerous but they dont kill a 50th of smoking related deaths
Excuse me? I love Whitney! I'm not stupid enough to deny her obvious vocal decline, though. You can tell her voice is not as good as what it was back in the mid 90's here. Her vocal decline started in 1998.
Of course she was getting older but she was loosing her powerful voice because of drugs, smoking and alcohol as well. Unfortunately she lost it. So it can't be blamed on age. That as well but her addictions as well.
+Jimmy McCormick not quite, check out her performance at the 2004 World Music Awards. The "I believe in you and me" part is on the live CD. I think the voice was always still thee when she took care of herself and didn't smoke. Like I think she held off on doing before the 2004 WMA.
The last couple of weeks ive been watching different videos of Whitney live. 2004 she should of made her last album and tour. 2009 kinda sucked for her because of course her voice did not sound the same.
This is what we not gonna do when of you fake fans bash whitney really you guys wouldn't let whitney be herself or even grow up you guys was always comparing her voice to her earlier days and in 2009 whitney still sounded good
She was supposed to, but she refused to do it because of, all of the bad press, from the reality show "Being Bobby Brown", there wasn't anything wrong with her making her last album in 2009, that was an absolutely great album, and it' did number one on the Billboard Hot 100s Charts, for weeks, what she shouldn't have done, what went on tour, because she had chronic COPD, and emphysema at the time, due to heavy cigarette smoking, which is why she could sound like a angel one day, then sound like she got something caught in her throat the next day, and could barely talk, and let alone sing, through all of the coughing and wheezing, yet the ones that are supposed to love her the most, allowed her to go out onstage, night after night, so that they will get paid, forget about what it was doing to her, and she really was sober, during the making of that album and even during the touring part, because she looks out of the country, she couldn't get drugs and South Korea, and Asia, in Australia, she didn't relapse until she got to London, and it was because all of the publicity, from that tour, all they had to do was, found a very good week, where she was taking her steroids, and breathing treatments then had good teeth float, and went on television and did one awesome concert, and it would have sounded like she did on Oprah, and if the VMAs in 2009, and that's why you got her sounding awful in 2010, and really great in 2010, they just won't show those clips, because even in death, they rather humiliate her, then to love her, and that's something I will have never understand.
She's my favorite but this is lame Can't believe how many of you are saying it was good and like in the mid -late nineties. not even close. Let's keep it real fellow Whitney lovers!
+Tina Olsen I honestly think after 98-99 Whitney was a lost soul and her voice was gone she still had the ability to get it all back and save it but she made the choice to do more drugs smoke and drink damn Whitney Houston how could you harm your beautiful voice mind and body like that r.i.p.
Right! She lost the passion for it and when she tried to get it back fully it was gone. I do believe if she was still here today and would have stopped smoking and drinking she could have gotten her voice back.
+Tina Olsen I believe that as well she was a great talent with an amazing heart and soul. but she said it best her biggest demon was herself. I believe at first she'd actually enjoyed her fame but afterwards it totally destroyed her because she had made enough money did everything in the, world one could imagine travel the world as well she was an international superstar. I can see where she wanted to be normal and have a private life.. but in my opinion she want about it in the wrong way not just say hey I'm doing one last album for my fans then I plan to retire quietly in a remote location which would be very hard because of who she was it saddens me I couldn't believe after all she'd been through would try drugs again it's like her body was a virgin again until she took all her prescribe medication from the doctor plus the crack cocaine which was too much Whitney Houston and her body couldn't take it anymore.
+jb bell I can't say I agree with you saying lame but I can agree with you that it was not like the late 90's but it was still better than 2009-2010. I am a great Whitney lover and she did decline in the years but this was way better than later on in the years.
that short "Didn't We almost have it All" snippet, at the beginning, was just sublime. Her voice was so beautiful and mature here. God bless Whitney; always in my heart.
her voice is so full and strong. no voice breaks or cracks, head voice sounds clear and powerful and her runs!!! tdf.
So in my opinion her voice is simply amazing.
really?
This is what's called TALENT!
Whitney was/is/will be the proof of real talent. She could take so easily one single song to a different various dimensions and still make it sound beautiful if not better than older ones.
We do miss you Whitney E. Houston !
Music Industry needs artists like this not trash like most of today's.
RIP Whitney. I was at this show, and I was so moved by how much love you gave the crowd in your performance. Bless you.
Wow
Lucky you
I personally think this was a very good performance. Of course not the 90's version but yer still a great performance done with the up most class. She still sounds better than most today!
I agree whitney was great here
My take to she performed very well. she is human and people forget we all make choices in life some good and some bad , and we ask God to forgive us he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, he then throws our sin in the sea of forgetfulness this is for those who think they have never sinned and casting stones , I love Whitney‘s performance however she delivers it.
I was there that night. I miss you Whitney, god bless u!
Arrasando ❤
In every live version of this song I have watched, they are all different. She changed it up all the time. She really was a beautiful talent. 7:30 on is a great example.
Great performance! I can't believe that a year later her voice coach said her voice was completely gone in 2005.
amazing, just amazing, the best, she is the best and the most beautiful singer i ever seen
So amazing voice in that time !
Everyone keeps talking about her voice she sounds excellent here and still still sounds better than the singers we have here today
Love it 😍
Touching kisses 💋
Can you believe this was just a few short years ago and her voice was still amazing. Hard to believe this was 8 years ago. Where has the time gone?
17 years now

Guy at 6:34 said "she can't hit the notes". It's probably true but he should clear his ears out. Whitney is not a machine.

I'm glad she performed didn't we almost have it all
Me too.
This one sounds like the one in 2010 but this one sounds better
Honestly her voice wasn't much different here then it was in 2010. 2010 just a little huskier.
yeah this one is slightly different
And thank you @MrLukasAugusto for posting this.

my favourite live singing of this song is in Hong kong 2004
Alguém tem esse show completo?
Só tem fatiados, mas tem uma boa parte
I just don't understand what could have happened in four years, I tried to tell people that drugs did not ruin her voice, her vocal cords were in perfect shape, during her autopsy, however she had both emphysema and chronic COPD, which will make you sound like you're at the top one day, and the next day you will be coughing and wheezing so much you wouldn't be able to make it through a performance, which is why she should have never did that tour, she should have went on television, and did one big concert, like she did for HBO three times

Anyone have the MLIYL performance from Beijing.
Excuse me? I love Whitney! I'm not stupid enough to deny her obvious vocal decline, though. You can tell her voice is not as good as what it was back in the mid 90's here. Her vocal decline started in 1998.
And no one is willing to say what it was
Weed definitely will dry out your voice for people saying weed won’t damage your voice
Of course she was getting older but she was loosing her powerful voice because of drugs, smoking and alcohol as well. Unfortunately she lost it. So it can't be blamed on age. That as well but her addictions as well.
you are correct she had lost it in 03. her vocal trainer said when he started back working with Whitney she could barely talk
This is what we not gonna do when of you fake fans bash whitney really you guys wouldn't let whitney be herself or even grow up you guys was always comparing her voice to her earlier days and in 2009 whitney still sounded good
She was supposed to, but she refused to do it because of, all of the bad press, from the reality show "Being Bobby Brown", there wasn't anything wrong with her making her
last album in 2009, that was an absolutely great album, and it' did number one on the Billboard Hot 100s Charts, for weeks, what she shouldn't have done, what went on tour, because she had chronic COPD, and emphysema at the time, due to heavy cigarette smoking, which is why she could sound like a angel one day, then sound like she got something caught in her throat the next day, and could barely talk, and let alone sing, through all of the coughing and wheezing, yet the ones that are supposed to love her the most, allowed her to go out onstage, night after night, so that they will get paid, forget about what it was doing to her, and she really was sober, during the making of that album and even during the touring part, because she looks out of the country, she couldn't get drugs and South Korea, and Asia, in Australia, she didn't relapse until she got to London, and it was because all of the publicity, from that tour, all they had to do was, found a very good week, where she was taking her steroids, and breathing treatments then had good teeth float, and went on television and did one awesome concert, and it would have sounded like she did on Oprah, and if the VMAs in 2009, and that's why you got her sounding awful in 2010, and really great in 2010, they just won't show those clips, because even in death, they rather humiliate her, then to love her, and that's something I will have never understand.
What the hell was she doing in 2005???
I wish she stopped smoking in 2004
Something terrible happened between 2004 and 2009
Divorced , abuse ,rehab and the media shaming her
She's my favorite but this is lame Can't believe how many of you are saying it was good and like in the mid -late nineties. not even close. Let's keep it real fellow Whitney lovers!
She certainly didn't sound like the early 90's Whitney. To me does sound like a1998-2000 Whitney here.
Her speaking voice sounds like last 90 if she would have stopped the drugs at this point she would have gotten her voice back or most of it
And how do you know that, are you a drug and vocal espert
Raspy, dark, husky, weak: beautiful or not , it s not Whitney as we knew.
Not great, the band weren't great either...I'm a huge fan, but I'm not deaf...
It was a shame
