Great video Phil. It's always surprising to be reminded how the US has such a huge population compared to other Western countries that they have the demographic numbers to sustain such niche trade publications. Like, all these industries exist in European countries, but with a population 1-10% the size of the US, there's just no way to justify going so niche. Same with the crazy trade conventions. Can't imagine how much more niche they must be able to go in markets like China and India!
I work in the convention trade. Fun fact, there's a small niche of if that's dedicated to serving all those small clique industry topics and even inventing them outright or approaching trade groups to encourage them to attempt a convention for themselves. Most of those people don't know that they have the numbers for a little convention or that they can afford it until a convention salesman explains it to them. That salesman also gives them a bargain basement price for an all in one package. Because normally they wouldn't be able to even consider such a thing if it were more than a single ballroom for a day. And even that is a stretch as someone needs to take responsibility for the ballroom. They just wouldn't be able to do it themselves. As just knowing who to call to set up a "real" convention is a full time job and niche industries or trades just don't have the manpower to spare. But with someone to do everything including details that most people don't even know need to be done, it's possible. I consider it analogous to the CaaS model, Conventions as a Service. They're very threadbare operations as you get what you pay for, it looks nothing like the launch of a new Apple product or CES. But everyone there seems to be enjoying themselves just for the novelty of getting out. I suspect it's similar in the publishing industry which is why all those similar magazines shared a website. Not enough circulation to employ a copy editor but if the same copy editor works on several similar magazines, then it becomes economical.
Funny but no, it's like three or four companies and they all know each other as well as being competitors. However there are indeed several conventions for typical convention operators, event planners, and their vendors. I suspect the outfits who do the ultracheap all in one deals just go there with everyone else if they attend conventions.
We so have thouse in the uk, my mate who works in waste has a house full. Have you never seen have i got news for you, thous mags they get the quotes from tend to be real.
never even thought that there could be a market for this kind of magazine. also never thought that the coverpage to said magazine would showcase a wedding story! now, i'm wondering if a magazine for Wedding Planners might ever had a cover story on the perfect septic system for your off-the-grid wedding!
We don't go that in depth in the magazines, but those of us that run farm/outside/no plumbing venues know who to call locally for your classy/common portable restroom.
This my 1st time commenting on any of your videos eventhough I've been sticking around from quite a long time, because this video made me write it. It's a great work, funny, informative and appealing. The part that makes me more satisfied with the whole video is that I know the story behind those animations, about your interests and how u do things. Looking forward for more and yes, you are unique!
“Work becomes work at the end of the day it’s about relationships.” This resonated with me because this is the sentiment I’ve experience working at a marketing agency doing video social content for big brands. After a while the appeal of working with Nike faded.
Is that Johnny's voice? An unexpected collaboration! I agree, in the end, every job are supposed to be customer service job. Though some might think that their job is to manipulate and use others for their own benefit.
lol I work as a graphic designer for Municipal Sewer and Waste magazine. you're right, though the sewer and water industry deals with some gross stuff, the people working hard to keep our country clean are great.
Actually though, I think porta Johns are really well engineered. They have a toilet, some a urinal, a small plastic mirror, decent ventilation, large supply of tp, they’re impossible to clog, and they have hand sanitizer. All in one portable plastic box.
HI Phil, I really appreciate watching your channel. I'm surprised that not many more people have subscribed to your channel. I'm always learning something new when you have something to show. Once I graduate from college this spring, I am probably try and make videos similar to yours and Johnny Harris's. Keep that content flowing!

I find your content interesting and your presentation engaging, and I look forward to watching many many more of your videos in the future!
the cliché of the Mob owning "waste management" businesses came true when my uncle tried expanding his porta potty business into Dallas. like jersey i can understand, but Dallas?!
Amazing. There's nothing better than learning about something we've all seen but no so little about. I do think while working catering I talked to a porta-potty company owner. And he said something like, "Yeah, so we rented out Porta-Potties to weddings and other events. So, why not rent out event tents too." It seems like an easily expandable business in the right market. Smart that they'll third party stuff.
Holy fuck! I lost my shit when I saw that orange jacket. It boggles my mind how only 5k people have had the privilege of seeing this. If Johnny was ever to leverage his subscriber base and plug a video of yours, this one would've been the one to do it. I hope this channel takes off big time, loving the quirkiness. @@PhilEdwardsInc it's a great movie. With a small helping of revenge 😂 and Kenny is just such a likeable every man character.
