As a 43 yr old that grew up in Gulf Shores Alabama and went to Foley because there was no high school yet it’s awesome seeing a kid from my hometown pick Auburn ! War Damn Eagle
The Wilkes’ kid is related to another Wilkes that was commuted to AU years ago. He was a record breaking rb that got killed before he ever had a chance to start college. Represent well young man. Randolph Co strong. 💪
Yeah, that's why I've been so down about Walker White and stuff because I don't think you can stack classes like you used to could with the way the portal is. They just won't stay if they're not already getting play and you keep recruiting younger 5 stars behind them. I like Kyle's idea of every other year. For sure
GREAT take Kyle. I agree 💯. IMO this is a very realistic and proper approach to roster management in this transfer portal era. See Walker White for proof.
Im with C5 about the QB room. If you take a QB every other year. Because we seen what happened with Walker. If Auburn holds with Jackson and has Deuce waiting in wind. It seems like a great situation. Deuce knows he's a real shot at QB1.
The only issue I have with not going after the top QB every year is the uncertainty. Portal is even more uncertain. We have no clue if Arnold or deuce will pan out. Feel like you have to go after your best option every year and pray one pans out
If I am Hugh, I am going for the top QB that works in his system every year. Once we have performance on the field then you can be more strategic. BUT only taking a 5-star QB every other year does not make sense right now. Right now, CHF needs to stack them until one pans out like expected. Then you can be more "picky" or strategic
I believe in Freeze I think people are too hard on him considering the shambles the program was in when he received it I think this year we will see improvement on the field across alot of positions. Seeing Auburn on a lot of the “way too early too 25” lists is awesome to see because it reveals that other people are noticing the changes that are occurring within the program. If Arnold plays at the caliber he was expected to be playing at last year, I think we have a really good chance to have a 9-3 or better season (and hopefully end the losing to bama streak 😔)
Nah. Hes shaping up to be another Gus Malzahn. Every year there is an excuse. He had the top running back in the SEC last year yet Hunter averaged fewer than 15 carriers a game. The only two conference games Auburn won Hunter received 25+ carriers. Like Gus, Hugh would rather lose running his offense than win doing anything else, and as usual Zac would rather pump sunshine than address Freezes handling of the program.
He made this bed with pushing Peyton Thorne on us.. Peyton was mediocre at best.. Just looking at it from where we're at now we could have kept Robbie Ashford and be in the same space.. I like Freeze but that gamble with Peyton set us back a year.. WAR DAMN BABY 🎉🎉🎉
@ Freeze proved to everyone why Thorne was the best option despite everyone’s protests, WW received like 3 snaps and ended his drive in a fumble against a mediocre team, and Hank was the sole reason as to why we lost the game against Arkansas. Thorne actually did a solid job at trying to salvage that game but it was too little too late. Hate on Freeze all you want but he’s getting guys here and he’s getting guys to stay regardless of disparity. I agree Hunter should have touched the ball more, and play calling was iffy at times, but I’d blame that on the lack of having a good OC and forcing Freeze into doing far too much. Dude handles recruiting and play calling man is a workhorse for Auburn.
@@aerialhallsr1183 I agree Thorne should’ve been gone after year 1, but seriously who would have filled his spot this year? Hank was either mediocre or sucked in every game he played in, and White couldn’t hold onto the damn ball playing against ULM, how did you expect him to fare in SEC play? Would’ve went exactly the same as Hank brown did against Arkansas. Had nothing to do with freeze failing to develop Qbs, these guys just were not strong enough to be SEC caliber quarterbacks. Our QB room is loaded this season.
For what it’s worth my opinion with the portal now I think you should just take the best available and hope for the best. Hoping to hold onto players by not recruiting over them is a recipe for disaster
This all sounds good, BUT if you’re only going for a great quarterback every other year, what if you miss out on that great quarterback, then you have a three-year gap of no great quarterback. You’re almost better to go from one every year expecting that you will only get one every other year. It is the mind of the sales person, if you want one…you have gotta ask for two or even 5
Gone are the days of young quarterbacks really because everyone is going to want someone that can make an impact immediately so transfer quarterbacks with experience is a hot commodity
What do you mean it’s none of our business Zac? Yes it is. Fans are literally donating money that goes straight to the players. It ABSOLUTELY is our business and it needs to be shared in public. Love the show but that’s absolutely incorrect.
Nobody wants to hear it and I’m sure we all hate it, but we have to start thinking of college as a professional sport. Contracts HAVE to be coming at some point. “Recruiting” won’t matter near as much as money. And money incentivizes giving PT to your high dollar players, even if they aren’t the best. They gotta get a handle on this thing because it’s making the game terrible IMO. Rivalries and school pride are vanishing because players are on a different team every season. It’s a weird time in college sports
Is the transfer portal and no requirement to compete for a starting spot after a year or two of development hindering QB growth? Who are the can’t miss QB’s in the NFL draft? There honestly isn’t a QB in this class worthy of a first round draft pick.
Remember the phrase “ it’s the economy stupid”? Now it should be “it’s the coaching stupid”! This constant fixation on recruiting and transfer portal is missing the most important element of a good football team. COACHING!!!
We're the #1 basketball team in the nation, and 98% of all your non-reaction podcasts are football related. Why not give our basketball team more coverage? Why not preview games? Talk about Broome's loss and how it might impact the team? You're doing upwards of 2 Auburn podcasts a day, and almost none of them are covering our national title contending basketball team.
Money and situation talks. If a kid is transferring to Auburn high school it's already over my guy. Kelen debor is an idiot who decided not to build strong relationships with high school coaches in the state and it'll cost him. The Saban era has officially ended and all we have to do is be MILDLY successful on the field.
Well this creates zero loyalty. Carson Beck holds out last yr for2 million I believe from Ga…..and now leaves for Miami for 4 million……. This is possibly going to kill the sport….. I’m getting to enjoy the whole deal less and less.
To Kyle's point, you're establishing rapport with top-rated quarterbacks so that you have a shot at them in the portal in two years.

It's always worth getting a qb every year. 1 they're usually your best player recuiter and 2 it keeps you for having to hit the portal
C5 been waiting his whole life to sing the Wayfair jingle. Absolutely CRUSHED it!

Would think the Huntville area would have a lot of talent seeing how much that area has grown.
Kyle has been waiting for that jingle moment
Recruiting validates your Brand. Winning builds your Brand. The Portal provides defense against needs and hurt feelings. WDE!
I say the same thing yall are saying about QBs on the barn and im laughed at and told im stupid…interesting
Auburn needs to get Jared Curtis! I believe we will get him!

Does anyone have questions about our qb coach?
Yeah, a couple. ..Why is he helping call plays? (That's 3 playcallers) Is he serving more of a recruiting role?
I think you still recruit top guys, especially at QB, so when they transfer they think of your campus, coaches, etc
If I am Hugh, I am going for the top QB that works in his system every year. Once we have performance on the field then you can be more strategic. We need NIl for offensive line
100 people 🎉
Thorne was a temu qb
So, to parallel C-5's thinking, do you alternate taking a project qb and a transfer qb in one year and a solid 5* qb the next year?

I think all hall of fame lb played rb in hs. Huge trait coaches look for. If a lb is a successful rb they turn into a great lb.
Damn, I agree 100% with Kyle on the QB situation. Get a solid guy, and then if you need to, go get a proven hoss in the portal.
WDE!
You recruit the #1 QB to build a relationship, so when or if he ever decides to transfer your top of his list

Need o line. Always been a Achilles of this football team in my opinion and 3 more edge commits isn’t going to help keep deuce or Arnold healthy.
If Peyton Thorne taught us anything The QB is worth the money. Can have the best team around and the QB can’t get them the ball
High-school QBS might be better off going to a small school first. Stack the stat sheet and then enter the portal worth a fortune.
Charlie does the wayfair ad all the time now! 😂

Sign a depth QB in off years. Recruit big dogs every other. Get a stud transfer if the HS player is a bust. Deuce needs to be the 2027 plan as QB1
