I had it. Mine was gray and a 1983 I believe. It was the best bike I had. Very unique. Wonderful bike. I dont know why people complained. For me the bike was magical It was the best looking bike I have had. I loved it. I missed it! Sadly, I had to go overseas and we sold it. If I had the money I will have brought it. I loved it totally! I miss my Yamaha Vision.

I bought one a year ago and still going through it. Love the styling, the carbs are something to be desired.

Owned a 1983 new. Sold it it in 1988. 44k miles later. Bad stators were first. Bad seals in the starter motor were next. And finally the carb kits went out of stock with Yamaha. Great concept, terrible execution by Yamaha USA. Dealers absolutely hated it much less the service department for all the warranty work they generated. I had to sell it because my dealer couldn't get a carb kit anymore. The 1983 models were the hardest to repair because the fairing, wheels and dual disc brake trim was in gold. Yamaha made only enough for the production run, no more. Fairing cracked, too bad. Wheel bent, too bad. Carbs need a rebuild, too bad. Oh I complained. To Yamaha USA, to my dealer, everyone. They did nothing. I had to scrape through junkyards in California to find certain parts. Yamaha just wants to forget the whole thing. For the trivia minded, the Vision was one half of the V-4 Venture engine (and the V-Max). I rode this thing all over the US. Got stranded by it in a couple of towns because of it. I love that sound, I loved the versatility, but I don't buy Yamaha stuff anymore. I understand the current appeal, but I wouldn't touch it again.

There's a reason why they only imported them for two years. The bike was ahead of the curve in many ways but it suffered from chronic carb issues. By the time they got the issues sorted the bike had earned a reputation as a lemon. Had the bike been fitted with EFI it may have been a different story. It's slim lines, smooth running water cooled V-Twin and shaft drive made for a superior handling sport bike. EFI in my opinion would have been the perfect match to this platform and put the design over the top for it's day. I bought my red 82 brand new at the local Yamaha dealership and when it was running right it was a Damn fine naked sport bike. Unfortunately it was in and out of the shop for most of that first year that I owned it. A carb kit finally came down the line but by that time Vision owners already had a bad taste in their mouths. I traded my bike in 84 for a CB450, boring but as dependable as they come.

+Márcio Machado a bit noisy but not bad, the engines are known for having a little tick to them. I would estimate about 25 or so, not the best but it's really comfy and worth the compromise. it's not that reliable but it's usually a minor thing like a vaccume leak that brings them down, or crap in the carb and other then that I've only had an issue where the harness holder cut through and shorted a wire but that was easily fixed. I would say get one if you know how to fix a bike and carry tools with you.
