Well the obvious answer is no for me. The targa top is cool but I get the outdoor feel of the soft top and that’s what I was after. Anything as close to a motorcycle without the dangers of actually riding one!
Not being ageist, but this would be a perfect retirement car for myself 😄 Kids all grown up, just myself and the misses, I'd have all the retirement money to splurge on a roadster or grand tourer for our twilight year adventures. This fits the bill, one that's nice looking, sporty and a convertible. As the host mentioned at the end, for the love of driving. Not going silly with overspending on a German car or even a Ferrari lol and wasting all my money just on maintenance. Keep it simple but still elegant. This Mx5 is just that.
I'm in the same situation as you, retired but without the wife. I ordered my 2022 RF Grand Touring with 6 speed manual in Crystal Blue Mica in January. I am giving my 2015 Mazda 3 Grand Touring in Soul Red to my granddaughter on her 16th birthday in May, just about when my new Miata comes in. Can't wait.
Same here. The thought of getting this fine car came just last week out of the blue. With about 5 more years to go before I retire, I've started watching and reading about this fine car so that I have a pretty good idea what to expect when I finally own it after my retirement. Being not very well off, this is the most affordable open top sports car that I can own. And maintain. I'm not into speed or glamour but looking forward to just the thrill of driving this car on the open road with the top down (during appropriate conditions, though. It's super hot in the tropics where I live 😄)
I'm 55, and will start the gradual transition to retirement soon. I just bought a 2017 RF in Ceramic Pearl, with just 15000km/9000 miles on the clock; it's like new inside and out. Most of my life, I've bought compromise cars, with enough seats for family, mates etc. This is the car I bought to please myself, and nobody else. My 58 years old girlfriend hates it, because she struggles to get in and out 🤣🤣
@@rivervalegroup easy really, more secure and feels more like a coupe than a roadster. I always wanted a GT6 in my youth but could never afford one s I settled for the Spitfire cos they were cheaper. The Mx5 does a brilliant job
I love these cars. The RF makes the MX5 more practical and in my opinion better looking. I have a much more basic and older Suzuki Cappuccino which is similar in concept but much smaller. A really good review thanks.
Uncannily, a friend of mine who has the soft top was chatting to me about ordering one of these yesterday. She has been forwarded the video! Excellent job as usual OSV, well done.
With no competition for the mx5 category from other manufacturers , it makes you wonder if anyone else but Mazda can make a car this small and reliable. GREAT JOB MAZDA ! PEOPLE LOVE THIS CAR !
I'm picking mine up this Saturday! I am slightly concerned because I'm 6ft 2. I have driven MX-5's previously working for a Mazda car dealership and didn't have a problem then? I love how futuristic this version looks!
@@hypnotechno I can day that yes it's a tight fit but I do fit in. No regrets :) I would say I am pushing it so anyone over 6ft 2 really will need to test drive. I find my legs even with the steering rack up to the max lift setting, I sometimes catch my knee on it. Car is really worth it though, highly recommend
@@Jack-ni4ft thanks I am 6 foot 1 and fit ok in rentals iv ordered a 2022 RF and will get a 1 inch seat lowering. I also plan to get a steering wheel with flat bottom for maybe easier in and out have you considered either/ both of these?
@@rivervalegroup It's extremely fun to drive, looks good from both inside and outside, doesn't have too much power(which makes it more fun and safe especially on curvy roads), and it's kind of emotional when you think about the history of this series of cars. I'm proud that Mazda hasn't given up making these small open sports cars. Overall I think it's a masterpiece!
@@kenny8763 I'm thinking about either getting a Mazda 2 or MX 5 as my first car. Would you say the mx5 would be the better choice? How do you find it on long journeys, is it quite comfortable?
@@maxmorris4562 I’d depends on how you’re going to use the car. MX5 has a few limitations (numbered passengers, luggage space...), and it requires premium fuel. I personally haven’t had any trouble with my back, even after spending a long day driving the mx5. If the car meets your needs, and you can overlook the limitations, I’d say the mx5 is a better choice. It’s extremely fun and also easy to drive.
'Ang on! The NC roadster is a far better looking car than the RF. So much so that I am about to change my NC roadster I've had from new, for a new Sport Tech ND convertible. Not only do I not like the look of the RF, especially roof down, but roof down it's a targa top, not a true open car like my NC roadster is. Now if only Mazda had fitted an NC-style hardtop to the ND I'd be getting one of those instead!

A truly lovely car but it is also incredibly tiny and actually seems small for someone who is over 5-10” Plus in my opinion they should bring back pop up head lamps!😁
I'm 5'11" 185lbs and no problems with about 3 to 4 inches headroom. But I do agree Mazda should've not removed the seat height adjustment that the NC had.
Wonder if Mazda spent time time on this one to fix the common rust isues these cars suffer from when they age a bit? Not a 32k car i would only buy a used one if at all.
Im 36 yo, 94kg, 5'11. My main concerns... Will this car be too small? Also does it still have the "hairdressers" image of the standard mazda, or does it look a bit more aggresive in the flesh?

Actually the chief stylist at 'Hair Today' really likes it but she also likes the Golf GTI so possibly she is just being kind and really likes fast hatchbacks, instead. I did get my hair done at 'The Barbers' on the high street and the boss says that the slight softness of the damping delivers inferior on limit handling to the Evora at 3 figure speeds AND she feels uncomfortable climbing out in a short skirt. The boss of Alexanders' drives a Rover 75 so I didn't ask him...
