I got a 6D a few years back, and the Canon rep told me it was their best low light camera, even better than 5D mk 3. I shoot (or did before covid) live music in pubs and small venues around London and the light in those can be pretty challenging at times. I also later got a 6D mk2, and still prefer the original (slightly battered) one.
I bought mine in 2016. I primarily shoot night photography. It's fantastic in low light, apparently better than the 6Dmk2. The 6D mk 2 is possibly better for daylight shots?
@@PerfectNormal Because it's better in low light. And I shoot primarily at night. ( Long exposures.) It's recently been bettered by the R6 which is also 20 megapixels. And better than the more expensive R5 for low light.
@@PerfectNormal I just found it worked better in low light. The additional focus points weren't much good as they are clumped in the centre, I never took advantage of the articulating screen and the larger files just meant I filled up the SD card quicker. I've now switched to Olympus/OM System, so you may not want to listen to my opinion anyway.
So happy to find this video. I have a Nikon D3500, entry-level DSLR and sometimes i feel its just not good enough for nighttime photography. This video has actually inspired me to go out at night and take some photos. Would love to see the editing process for these shots. Just discovered this channel, loving the content so far. Great video...thanks so much for doing these. I hadn't shot any street photography for getting on for a year, then watched your first video and started shooting again that same day. Very inspiring!
Already 8 years old.. time flies.. I remember when this camera came out alongside the 5D3, it was regarded as a great camera if you didn't video, and it holds up even after (almost) a decade ! Great pictures and nice video, keep it up !
I didn’t think it was that old either! I thought maybe 4 or 5. Totally agree about the 5d3 - we think we’ve come along so far with camera technology in 10 years but many a beautiful photo was taken on the 5d3 and printed as big as you like
The photos you took are extraordinary. Their white balance is very cinematic. By the way, I have a 6D that has given me wonderful work. Can you share with us what color settings you used? Did you do any digital editing afterwards? Thanks!
I have this exact gear - in a closet gathering dust. I switched to mirrorless mainly because my DSLR was too big and too heavy. However, my arm really started bothering me from shooting 2 weeks straight in Cuba with an M10. My DSLR probably isn't as heavy as I think it is. This may give me the motive to dust it off. Good series, guys. I'm liking these videos.
Something that makes the DSLRs heavy is huge lenses (like the sigmas) so if you have the 40 2.8 pancake or the 50 1.8 it can make the 6D very light and manageable. Great ergonomics too- it just doesn’t look very handsome :)
The 6D is a beast for working at high ISOs. One of the things it's known for is how well it can produce images and and focus in really poor light. I have the 7D if I ever want to do action or get a bit more reach with the 200mm end of my zoom for wildlife. But the 6D is my full frame, portrait, and landscape camera now. Though I am really digging going backwards with an Exc+ 20D I picked up for $50 with my 40mm f2.8 on it. I do want a 24mm or so though. Love the simplicity and the images. (I'm a film guy from way back). I'm thinking a Canon 5D Classic may be the next body. Selling two of my 3 mirrorless crop sensors. (Sony). Nice images by the way! Solid work.
@Pedro G I never did. I sold my 7D and Sony a6000s. Later, I traded my Sony A7RII for a clean Canon 80D and got a little cash on top. The 6D is still my first go to. I did keep my little Sony a5000 and a few lenses for a small kit.
@@WolfQuantum Just got a 2nd. 5D I body in mint conditions for 150 eu. The image coming out is so organic, and special, give it a try if you find a bargain. Nice to hear, I love the 6D, 7D not so much...

It's one of the most overlooked great cameras ever in my opinion. I've had one for about 8 years. It's certainly bargain of the decade and just about the best way to get into Full Frame without throwing £1500 at the matter.

Zone focusing is a lot easier with wider angles like 35 (I use this on my m2) or 28 (which josh uses on his Q). 2 things are also a big help- having a focusing tab on the lens so you can feel for the position of the focus before taking the shot. Definitely some great results from this setup! I had no idea the 6D had been around for that long, maybe I can move up from mirrorless to full frame myself before much longer. So you haven't gotten any negative reactions from people based on the size or loudness of the DSLR? That's so awesome.
The 6D is pretty small for a DSLR and very quiet when it’s in S drive mode (this is the main reason I use it instead of the newer 5D cameras which are much much louder) and nope I’ve never really had anyone confront me because of the size/noise
I’m very curious to know what your ISO was set at? All these turned out beautifully! I shoot with a Canon 6D and I actually struggled with night photography!
The canon 6d with the 50 1.8 is pretty fast even in low light. However I don’t nail focus all of the time but it doesn’t necessarily ruin an image if it’s a little soft.
Really enjoy your work. Thanks for creating the channel. Do you ever take photos of street scenes outside (before and/or after) sporting events? I've always enjoyed pictures of the anticipation and then the elation/deflation afterwards... Cheers.

Another great video. Love the warm tones from these images. Are they from just tinkering with the image or do you actually have a go to preset for this mood? Thanks again. Loving the footage. 🙌
You know a lot of it comes from the canon sensor - it’s reds are just beautiful and saturated so skin tones look great. I also have my own base presets that I start with but try to get most of the way there in camera

@@frame-lines I've got a 6D as well. Also own the 50 1.8 STM and 85 1.8, and I rarely use either. The 35mm f2 IS and 135L are the only lenses that really get used (mainly the 35 IS), and they're excellent on the EOS film cameras. Truth be told my 6D mostly sits on the shelf since buying an X100F, but I keep it around because I do need it from time to time.
I've loved my 6D since I picked it up 8 years ago, but never really thought about shooting night street with it. I have that 50mm lens as well in my kit. You would think f1.8 wouldn't be fast enough, but when you combine that with the handheld night scene setting (I know, I usually shoot manual, but just thought, hey let's try it) and WOW. Of course the multi shot noise reduction leaves you with jpeg, but it's a fine jpeg. I have a 5DSr for larger format shots and HDRs, but the 6D is my fun camera still. Thank you for your video. Your photos are inspiring, and I'm probably going to go out and shoot downtown tonight. Cheers.
It's unbelievably awkward for me to take pictures of people. when you see people looking at you, then you take the picture, do they ever say anything to you? i have tried it twice and when they did noticed, i smiled and said thank you, out of awkwardness hahaha which is really weird. it seems like you just just walk away, maybe? Is there a street photography culture on London? do people just see you and think, he must be a tourist or something? In Seattle, i've had people stop me and say, "stop taking pictures of people" when actually i was taking pictures of a building. i noticed when Josh was taking a picture, he pulled the camera up, but was aiming it straight ahead, but turned to the right to take a picture of a gentleman. /rant
A old lady swung her shopping bag at me recently, but she did it in good humour so I don’t think that counts :) I can’t really remember the last time someone confronted me- it helps to just be very quick about it and move on before they get the time to even think about it -Shane
I’ve done some street photography in London before and no one has ever got angry at me. You gotta think about the fact that it is a city with a vast amount of tourism and people want to take photos all over and most of time people just think your a tourist just cluelessly snapping away so no one will really bat an eye. Plus most Londoners are just too busy to actually care they all need to be somewhere and don’t have the time and if they do care then they will have a genuine reason to stop you. If you were to go somewhere else in the UK that’s really quiet and doesn’t really get tourists then you will most likely get confronted because people aren’t used to seeing cameras.
It’s happened maybe a handful of times to me- I think josh has experienced some too. I’d say it’s less than 0.00001% though and it never really got any worse than a raised tone of voice -Shane

I’ve never tried that one but I’ve had the 85 1.8 which I loved. Might try to get that back again
Cheers.
what presets do you use?
Hi Mohammed- I don't use any presets, except for ones I've made for myself based on edits I like
It's unbelievably awkward for me to take pictures of people. when you see people looking at you, then you take the picture, do they ever say anything to you? i have tried it twice and when they did noticed, i smiled and said thank you, out of awkwardness hahaha which is really weird. it seems like you just just walk away, maybe?
@@frame-lines tired it today at a touristy spot, seemed to work with less looks. thanks!

Did it ever happen that people got really angry at you because you took a picture?
